There are multiple definitions for when a boat becomes a ship, including size, purpose, and other characteristics:
Size: Some say a ship is a vessel that's at least 197 feet (60 meters) long. Others say a ship is a large, ocean-faring vessel.
Purpose: A ship is a versatile vessel that can be used for commercial, military, or scientific purposes. A boat is often used for leisure activities.
Masts: A sailing ship may be defined as having at least three masts.
Deck: A ship may have a through-fitted deck, while a boat may have an open cockpit.
Weight: A ship may weigh at least 500 tonnes.
Crew: A ship may have a commander and a crew, while a boat may just have whomever is on it at the time.
Personal use: A vessel may be considered a yacht if it was constructed solely for personal use and has a combined occupancy of less than 100, including crew.
Submarines are technically ships, but they are traditionally referred to as boats. The original submarines were small and manned only when in use, so “boat” was appropriate.
This single bolt just couldn't decide which step leader was going to strike the ground. This zig-zag pattern is common. A millisecond later, a brilliant return stroke blew out the image.

Morning light on the vertebra that make up the backbone of the foothills above Boulder. I had headed out with the hopes of clouds above the Flatirons at sunrise, as a potent winter storm was heading our way with high winds out of the northwest. The clouds were present, but not in the right place for good compositions (note however the lenticular in the distance). They mostly blocked the early morning light, which has made its reappearance about 5 minutes before this shot was taken (subtle shadows are still visible in the sky). Today there is around 8 inches (20 cm) of snow on the ground, with near zero visibility in low clouds.
You could always count on the Santa Fe for an incredible consist. In this particular case 5 F45s lead the charge up Cajon Pass it was quite the sight. It was one of my favorite encounters with the Santa Fe F/FP45s.
Helen Calder - Arrangement for 15 Colours (15/44)
Christchurch-based artist Helen Calder pulls paint out into open space to explore its sculptural properties. She wrote in 2013:; When paint is freed from a flat support; its thickness and rubbery plasticity is evident. The ‘freed’ paint objects have fronts; edges and backs and of course colour all the way through. The physical ‘undoing of painting’ makes it possible to have parts that are interchangeable rather than fixed; open-ended paintings that can continue to evolve through different locations and time.;
Taken at the Eastbourne Lantern Festival. The lanterns were created by Same Sky Charity and were installed in the Pavilion Gardens.
Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, via the Welcome Back Fund.
The lanterns, ranged from botanical inspired creations to colourful creatures and royal displays to celebrate the the Queen’s 70th year, following her ascent to the throne in February 1952.
Thankfully I got to see it the evening before Storm Eunice hit our shores with up to 122 mph winds.

This photo has made it to explore! Rank #2 on 2010-9-9 .
Suddenly the temperature dropped and the daylight seemed to swirl away into an indistinct, fog-like darkness. At the same time the air was torn apart by a frantic whirring sound, like a thousand grinding gear-wheels suffused by furious rushes of steam. Tiny arcs of purple lightning began to crackle through the aether as a great electrical wind twisted the air into some sort of strange, other-worldly vortex. As the very fabric of reality itself seemed to spin away into oblivion, I stared in horror at the centre of that churning maelstrom, where, piece by piece, the terrible apparition slowly materialised. Was this the vanguard of the evil Dr. Fulgurite's long threatened Clockwork Army? or something more terrifying even than that...
No. It was just a nice, friendly man in a steampunk costume that I chatted to during a visit to the Victorian Brickworks Museum at Bursledon. His name is Steve.
Thirteen hand-held exposures representing 21 seconds of March 26th, 2019.
Usual caveats and all that.
When I bought my camera (I bought a camera kit with a lens, multiple lens attachments, a bag, tripods, SD cards, & much more..
It was a great deal! There were SO MANY choices with the KITS .. I didn't even know which one I wanted to get.. So it took me SO LONG to make a decision. But the one day I decided that if I didn't buy it at that moment, I was going to procrastinate much longer.. *trying to make the right choice* .. So I just clicked and bought one of my tip picks.. And clicked BUY. And didn't go back to look at more kit packages, because (like always) I'd be like, "I wish I would have gotten that one.." *So yes, I haven't checked them since that day! LOL *
Anyhoo, I haven't really went thru all of the items.. And I totally forgot about my wide-angle / macro lens attachment-lens (two in one) ... And when I was looking for my tripod I seen it.. in the box. I put it on my camera.. and had so much fun outdoors! This is one of the photos I took by my back door, of an ivy leaf. I love the way it came out!

So my 100x (that isn't an issue, I have those images FOR DAYS lol). Easiest challenge, for me.
My 52 week, I have to post "something I've never photographed before".

I'm not sure if you all have noticed or read my recent captions on my photos about "disabling comments"..
Since I've been VERY BUSY in my personal life-but also trying to continue to be an active contributor to my challenges...I will be disabling comments every so often..
SOOO, when I do.. Please feel free to "favorite" my photos, ((leave comment notes on the pictures, I LOVE THAT)) or you can also leave comments on my other recent photos if you wish, commenting on my photos with disabled comments!
◼◻ >>> My reason for doing this..
I am busy... but also participating and posting many photos for these challenges.. When I post a photo, I always take my time and make sure to RETURN ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS (which takes me usually 3 hours straight).. per photo.
So I'm sure you can all understand that this IS NOT EASY FOR ME when I'm strapped for time!
...So I'm sure you all understand..
And THANK YOU for all of your amazing comments, They mean a lot! & Your support helps me continue to try new challenges, push myself & learn more about photography... And I'm grateful for you all!
I am leaving for work in a little bit.. So right now I'm going to ATTEMPT to return your comments now, (approx 3+ hours of commenting).. so if I do not return all of the comments, I will finish hopefully after work.. or tomorrow morning!
Again, thank you all.. I APPRECIATE YOU!!

BTW: THERE IS THIS GREAT GROUP THAT I'VE BEEN A MEMBER OF SINCE 10+ YEARS AGO (ON MY OLD ACCOUNT).. One of the best groups EVER.. GREATEST IDEA.. but since 10+ years ago, the group has kind of died down.. but is still mildly active.. Andrewrosspoetry and myself are basically keeping it alive.. and he asked me to invite people.. (I wish every time I go there that someone would post so I could post again.) So he told me to invite people.. (some of you I have, some of you I will soon) but I wanted to post this in case I forget to invite you.. The idea of the group IS.. You post a photo. and comment on the person before you's PHOTOSTREAM.. You go thru-out their stream ALL OVER (new pics.. old pics) and leave multiple comments...
...At the moment we are trying to BRING THE GROUP BACK TO LIFE!! So, until then.. you only have to wait until ONE other person posts a photo.. before posting again! Make sure to comment on their stream.. as they will yours.. THAT'S ALL!
Lets bring back my favorite group!
