My little granddaughter, an only child, so used to play alone, in her own world a lot, I was observing her and taking photographs of these wonderful moments.

Most of the time she was unaware of me.

Her dad was also watching her, and moved in closer the moment he thought she could hurt herself.

After the fun, we went for a huge ice-cream.

Sweet days.

Thanks and have a happy day, Magda, (*_*)

My daughter coloured this in for her best friend back in Hertfordshire, thought I would give it Nikon treatment ;)

My cousin (fellow Flickrite Adept) and I were out shooting last week, on a cold night, when I saw a snowplow coming. I was going to have him move, but I like the shot of the light trails going behind him.

Photo taken at Queens Park, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. Hand held at 1/10 of a second, no flash.

It makes me happy seeing all the things to do with Pride events. Whether it's the multicolour profile pictures on Facebook or the numerous posters or even this bus, it's great to see people being able to show off who they are after years of torture and put-downs as a result of their sexuality, something over which you have no control.

THE DAYS of COLOUR.

A Slinky is a toy pre-compressed helical spring invented by Richard James.

It can perform a number of tricks, including travelling down a flight of steps end-over-end as it stretches and re-forms itself with the aid of gravity and its own momentum,

In 1943, Richard James, a naval mechanical engineer stationed at the William Cramp and Sons shipyards in Philadelphia, was developing springs that could support and stabilise sensitive instruments aboard ships in rough seas.

James accidentally knocked one of the springs from a shelf, and watched as the spring "stepped" in a series of arcs to a stack of books, to a tabletop, and to the floor, where it re-coiled itself and stood upright.

James's wife Betty later recalled, "He came home and said, 'I think if I got the right property of steel and the right tension; I could make it walk.'"

James experimented with different types of steel wire over the next year, and finally found a spring that would ‘walk’.

Betty was dubious at first, but changed her mind after the toy was fine-tuned and neighbourhood children expressed an excited interest in it.

She dubbed the toy Slinky; meaning "sleek and graceful”.

On COLOURS...

Light and colour can influence how people perceive the area around them.

Different light sources affect how the colours of walls and other objects are seen.

Specific hues of colours seen under natural sunlight may vary when seen under the light from an incandescent (tungsten) light-bulb: lighter colours may appear to be more orange or "brownish" and darker colours may appear even darker.

Light and the colour of an object can affect how one perceives its positioning.

If light or shadow, or the colour of the object, masks an object's true contour (outline of a figure) it can appear to be shaped differently than it really is.

Objects under a uniform light-source will promote better impression of three-dimensional shape.

The colour of an object may affect whether or not it seems to be in motion. In particular, the trajectories of objects under a light source whose intensity varies with space are more difficult to determine than identical objects under a uniform light source.

Carl Jung is most prominently associated with the pioneering stages of colour psychology.

Jung was most interested in colours’ properties and meanings, as well as in Art’s potential as a tool for psychotherapy.

Colour has long been used to create feelings of cosiness or spaciousness.

However, how people are affected by different colour-stimuli varies from person to person.

There is evidence that colour preference may depend on ambient temperature.

People who are cold prefer warm colours like red and yellow while people who are hot prefer cool colours like blue and green.

A few studies have shown that cultural background has a strong influence on colour preference.

These studies have shown that people from the same region regardless of race will have the same colour preferences.

I'm ALWAYS fascinated by COLOUR!

Hope this brings a smile again, have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

« Douce, belle, amoureuse et bien-fleurante Rose,

Que tu es à bon droit aux amours consacrée !

Ta délicate odeur hommes et Dieux recrée,

Et bref, Rose, tu es belle sur toute chose. »

Pierre de Ronsard, Second Livre des Amours (1578)

Sweet, beautiful, loving and well-blooming Rose,

That you are rightfully devoted loves!

Your delicate smell men and God recreates,

And short, Rose, you are beautiful on everything.

Pierre de Ronsard, Second Book of Love (1578)

From Ronsard to Shakespeare via Verlaine...

Many poets have found in the rose the allegory of love.

Venerated by men since antiquity, the queen of flowers knows how to express all the nuances of feelings.

Throughout its history, it has forged a complex language.

It is today the cut flower the most sold in the world!

Pink Roses

Symbol: The pink rose conveys affection, sweetness, modesty, fidelity and pays homage to feminine beauty.

She can express a feeling of love, but with a much softer sense than the red rose.

After a photo shoot in the studio, we just thought we'd have some creative and "free" stuff, just to unwind from all the tension.

The models were game and later happy with the shots they were given.

Something like this, 'fashion' photography is a different shoot altogether, it is ALWAYS important to have a good rapport with your subjects during a session, treat them with calm and respect. Sometimes it is just fun to let models do 'their' thing...

Photography is a powerful medium.

Too often underestimated, yet it is the perfect recording of our history, forever changing lifestyles, the all important memories...

Cameras only the tools of the trade, note I write 'cameras', no distinction, it is my firm conviction that it is the person using the tools that is responsible for the result.

Like in everything else, there’s ever changing TREND.

You only have to look at the family/school/wedding portrait of 50-20 years ago!!!!!!!!

A dynamic portrait like the above, would not have been possible, everything neatly 'all-in', best clothes, from a respectable distance.

I like the way it's going, but it's taken some time...

Have a wonderful day, and thank you for your time and comments, M, (*_*)

Rock face with a simple change of colours

The rainbow rose is a rose that has had its petals artificially coloured. The method exploits the rose's natural processes by which water is drawn up the stem. By splitting the stem and dipping each part in different coloured water, the colours are drawn into the petals resulting in a multicolored rose. With these changes to the rose, it causes them to not live as long as an uncoloured rose.

forming a flower-carpet, they are out, for sale now, all waiting for the transplant in someone’s much loved garden.

It is still early in the year, and they tremble in the chilly wind. The flowers still quite hidden, frightened to come out.

The word primula is the Latin feminine diminutive of primus, meaning first (prime), applied to flowers that are among the first to open in Spring.

At the CASINO, I was like a kid in a toy-shop for the first time. I couldn't believe my eyes, they had many games I'd never seen, I thought it was just about the classic stuff, like black jack, baccarat, roulette.

Aaachhh, I've lead such a sheltered life!!! HA.

I asked what this was for, the glass covering the dice was hermetically closed, no more bets, the copper cloche was put over it, electronically the dice were 'shaken' (not stirred!), the glass dome uncovered and people could see how their luck had fallen...

I could not resist taking a photo of it.

We were in the Casino, during closing time, the day, to take photos for their publicity.

These that you see, just 'my bit on the side', free stuff... View On proper Black

I am so proud of my hubby Mike. These are his photos hanging at the Bean & Leaf Cafe in Royal Oak, MI. There will be a reception tomorrow night from 7-10 pm. If you're close by, stop and see them and the other 4 fantastic photographers work.

This picture is not the best, the lighting was very difficult but it's all I got!

By the way, I've been told I have some catching up to do on my 52 weeks project (by my hubby). I didn't realize I was two weeks behind! I promise to catch up on everyone's pictures this week. Have a good weekend all.
