Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.

Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.

This is an imagined Personal Rapid Transit system in an imagined Central Business District in Anycity, Anystate, USA.
Hand drawing this took about 2 hours over the course of several days. Scanning was quick (duh), but removing artifacts, stray pencil marks, extra thick lines and other imperfections took about 2.5 hours.

This is modeled after the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.
A tell-tale, also known as a bridge warning, is a series of ropes suspended over the tracks to give warning to a brakeman on the roof of the train that the train is approaching a low-clearance obstacle, such as a tunnel or a bridge. A standard tell-tale design had ropes on 3-inch centers for a width of 8 feet over the track, the bottom of the ropes 6 inches lower than the height of the obstruction, and placed at least 100 feet before the obstruction. Palo Duro Canyon is a canyon system of the Caprock Escarpment located in the Texas Panhandle near the city of Amarillo, Texas, United States. As the second largest canyon in the United States, it is roughly 193 km (120 mi) long and has an average width of 10 km (6.2 mi), but reaches a width of 32 km (20 mi) at places. Its depth is around 250 m (820 ft), but in some locations it can increase up to 304 m (997 ft). Palo Duro Canyon has been named "The Grand Canyon of Texas" both for its size and for its dramatic geological features, including the multicolored layers of rock and steep mesa walls similar to those in the Grand Canyon.
The canyon was formed by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River, which initially winds along the level surface of the Llano Estacado of West Texas, then suddenly and dramatically runs off the Caprock Escarpment. Water erosion over the millennia has shaped the canyon's geological formations.
Notable canyon formations include caves and hoodoos. One of the best known and the major signature feature of the canyon is the Lighthouse Peak. A multiuse, six-mile round trip loop trail is dedicated to the formation. The middle portion of the trail can be hot with little shade, and hikers should take plenty of water.

The Cherry Avenue Bridge was built by the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway to support it's Chicago & Evanston services in the Chicago terminal. In 2009, the bridge was converted into a multi-use bridge (pedestrian, railroad, and bicycling) while still supporting the current tenant, the Chicago Terminal Railroad.

Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.

Rottenwood Creek headwaters in the Marietta, Georgia area just north of Atlanta. It flows south through urban habitat and enters a nice gorge just before the confluence with the Chattahoochee River. The gorge is within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
I explored this gorge in my youth. Until yesterday, I had not been here in many years. The bridge in the background is a part of a multiuse trail system that follows the stream corridor for several miles. Rottenwood Creek, like most metro Atlanta streams, is prone to severe flooding. In this image, the water is still turbid from a recent rain event. As I walked along the trail, I kept seeing mountains of human garbage deposited in drift lines created by flooding. The amount of human garbage is like nothing I have seen along any other Atlanta metro stream. I suspect the reason for this is the stream flows parallel to Interstate 75 for many miles. This highway is used by trash throwers from over half the country as they make their way to Florida. There is a very high percentage of disposable drink bottles in the trash piles.
