I took these back in November of last year. It is always amazing to find these abandoned places. The wikipedia article on Desert Center is interesting to read.

The school district has only 13 kids, so they are all at the 'newer' school, Eagle Mountain. That school is right by the abandoned Kaiser mining town, Eagle Mountain.
I think they thought that the school would get other use. Still there are two pianos, the typewriter, the cabinets and all those chairs. I can only imagine that it would host town meetings in that multiuse room with a stage.
There is always a sense of something at abandoned buildings it feels like a spirit of surprise. No one intended to abandon this when they built it, and when the building is finally abandoned, it seems to always still be a bit of a surprise and disbelievable. So much so that there are always things left behind that confirm the lack of a belief that this is the end.
A few months ago I decided to put together an ultralight 650B wheel set. Although the wheels themselves aren't complete, I switched from Hetres to Pari Motos on the current wheels, and I continued to use Eclipse 26" tubes, which are about 55 g (vs 150 g for a conventional 650B tube). In other words, just switching the tubes dropped about 200 g from the wheels, or about 0.44 lbs. The tubes themselves cost about $50 each, and I believe they cost about $75 retail. You could buy 5-10 regular tubes for this price. Crazy, but...
I've ridden the tubes, same set, no patches, no flats, for about 1100 miles under the Hetres and another 660 miles under the Pari Motos. Keep in mind that I do two types of riding: 20-25 miles per day in New York City, and 80-120 mile dirt/rough road rides outside the city most weekends. A pretty stringent test for any tube. In fact, with conventional tubes over 10 years of riding I averaged about 1 flat per 500 miles, generally from broken glass on multiuse paths.
Luck? Maybe. They'll probably pop tomorrow. But if this represents typical flat resistance, than combined with the tremendous rotating weight savings they might be worthwhile.
Do they change ride quality? There have been some claims that they will make a tubed tire ride like tubeless. I don't really detect a difference, although losing almost half a pound in rotating weight is quite noticeable during accelerations.
In short, I'm a believer, although once these go I won't replace them with another set. If they could get the price down to $30-40, and if the flat resistance is real, I'd use these tubes all the time. If they miraculously last >3000 miles, I might be willing to pay the going rate. We'll see how they do this winter.
Update: They've made it 3200 miles on my 650B bike. Amazing puncture resistance and super light. I think I can recommend them now, although one caveat is that I might have gotten lucky with my set; my understanding is that there have been some quality control issues.

Thursday morning I cycled 13km roundtrip from Mann's to the Blue Bridge along the Lochside Trail connecting with the Galloping Goose Regional Trail at the Switch Bridge.
Another beautiful day in paradise for cycling at 14ºC.
Average cycling speed, according to my ViewRanger GPS Tracking App in my phone was 14km/hr. Cool.

I took these back in November of last year. It is always amazing to find these abandoned places. The wikipedia article on Desert Center is interesting to read.

The school district has only 13 kids, so they are all at the 'newer' school, Eagle Mountain. That school is right by the abandoned Kaiser mining town, Eagle Mountain.
I think they thought that the school would get other use. Still there are two pianos, the typewriter, the cabinets and all those chairs. I can only imagine that it would host town meetings in that multiuse room with a stage.
There is always a sense of something at abandoned buildings it feels like a spirit of surprise. No one intended to abandon this when they built it, and when the building is finally abandoned, it seems to always still be a bit of a surprise and disbelievable. So much so that there are always things left behind that confirm the lack of a belief that this is the end.

Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.

Time Warner Center, a multiuse facility on New York City’s Columbus Circle, is (at $1.8 billion) one of the most expensive buildings ever constructed in America. The base of the towers reflects the curve of Columbus Circle in a graceful arc. It is a geometrically complex building with obtuse and acute angles that make the towers look dynamic and slender. Galloping Goose to Great Trail

This morning I cycled 17½km (11miles) roundtrip from Oak Bay Bike Shop (OBB) in Westshore Mall to the Wolf Hill rest stop along the Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail(aka The Great Trail). It's 4km from OBB to the trailhead at Mt. Wells Park parking (Humpback Reservoir). It's another 4600m (4.6km) to Wolf Hill rest area (and restrooms) from Humpback Reservoir.
What an amazing ride! I rented an Evo electric-assist (e-bike) bicycle and rode the whole way there and back. The only time I dismounted was on one downhill (DH) section. Going up the steep hills is no problem on an e-bike the the DH on the loose gravel could end up smarting a bit. I didn't want to find out. A couple of DH switchback have signs stating to dismount but these were not as treacherous as the one where I chose to dismount (and which, BTW, had no sign). We already walked this section of trail so knew where the hot spots were.
Once over the suspension bridge northbound, the trail pretty much heads straight up. I timed the climb from my GPS track and it's over seven minutes at 10km/hr. Now that's a hill.
When this trail first opened, it was touted as "a 13km connector" between the Galloping Goose Regional Trail (GGT) in Langford to the Trans Canada Trail at Shawnigan Lake. According to my GPS tracks it's closer to 20km. So for those of us who plan on whipping up there to ride it out and back, we may want to re-think that plan. Inside the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.

Palo Duro Canyon is a canyon system of the Caprock Escarpment located in the Texas Panhandle near the city of Amarillo, Texas, United States. As the second largest canyon in the United States, it is roughly 193 km (120 mi) long and has an average width of 10 km (6.2 mi), but reaches a width of 32 km (20 mi) at places. Its depth is around 250 m (820 ft), but in some locations it can increase up to 304 m (997 ft). Palo Duro Canyon has been named "The Grand Canyon of Texas" both for its size and for its dramatic geological features, including the multicolored layers of rock and steep mesa walls similar to those in the Grand Canyon.
The canyon was formed by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River, which initially winds along the level surface of the Llano Estacado of West Texas, then suddenly and dramatically runs off the Caprock Escarpment. Water erosion over the millennia has shaped the canyon's geological formations.
Notable canyon formations include caves and hoodoos. One of the best known and the major signature feature of the canyon is the Lighthouse Peak. A multiuse, six-mile round trip loop trail is dedicated to the formation. The middle portion of the trail can be hot with little shade, and hikers should take plenty of water.

Outside the AT&T Performing Arts Center Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre
Bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians may enjoy the numerous lakeside vistas and historic covered bridges along the Row River Trail. This 17-mile paved rails-to-trails route begins in downtown Cottage Grove and ends at Culp Creek, a few miles to the north of the Sharps Creek Recreation Site.
The best access is at the Mosby Creek Trailhead. From I-5 in Cottage Grove take exit 174 and turn east on Row River Road. Follow Row River Road for one mile and turn right on Currin Conn Road, which connects you to Mosby Creek Road. Turn left and follow Mosby Creek Road two miles to Layng Road. Turn left and the trailhead will be immediately on your left. Parking, restrooms, and an informational kiosk are available at the trailhead.
Parking is also available at Dorena Dam, Row Point, Harms Park, and Bake Stewart Park. Click on the brochure to view a map of these locations.
The trail is also part of the recently designated Covered Bridges State Scenic Bikeway.
