During this difficult period my art work becomes symbolic containers of thoughts, an abstract narrative of nature formed through the use of materials offered by nature itself…I see my work as a meditation on the controversial relationship between man and nature, in an attempt to highlight the precariousness of such an equilibrium and the necessity of reconquering nature’s purity and primacy. The beauty and poetry of such qualities coexist with a sense of perennial fragility and precariousness, a metaphor of the fleeting nature of human existence.

-my teacher really helped out with the editing of this photo a lot: crop and coloring fix that ameliorated it much! thanks!
-and rosie hardy is inspiring me to use myself in photographs. look her up!
-the wall color still bothers me a little, though. the idea of this one (i'll just tell you) was sneaking out, but it was late at night and cold outside and my windows are loud and a pain to completely open-like to take out the screen and everything- so there was no crawling out of windows : ( sorry. i did this so many times, trying to sit down for just the right amount of time, and then move slowly enough, and then stand still for long enough to darken up the most important subject. this actually has a consciously controlled color scheme: notice the warm yellow and red to the cool blue and green: adds a separation. that's why i'm so glad my teacher helped with the color issue- i really didn't want to black and white it.

This inaugural piece in my new "Peek-Through" series created during the Quarantine period is my vision of seeing through to the other side of these tumultuous times and what lies beyond. Painted on blackboard, I consciously left the outer rims of the piece unpainted so that you think about squinting and getting a glimpse of a better and brighter new world on the other side of the pandemic and the big issues that have to be addressed in the world right now. It is my hope that after the storm what is left behind is a more calm, gentle and loving world for all who reside here and for future generations.

This painting was inspired by my memories of a trip to Acadia National Park when personally being in that beautiful setting was impossible. Its mountains, sky, water, and vegetation are represented by the palette, layers of paint, and varied methods of applying paint to depict abstractly the natural beauty that is concurrently imperfect and awesome. The embedded letter and numbers represent significant milestones of accomplishments that carry strength to help get through difficult times of transition.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Und wieder rauscht mein tiefes Leben lauter,
als ob es jetzt in breitern Ufern ginge.
Immer verwandter werden mir die Dinge
und alle Bilder immer angeschauter.
Dem Namenlosen fühl ich mich vertrauter:
Mit meinen Sinnen, wie mit Vögeln, reiche
ich in die windigen Himmel aus der Eiche,
und in den abgebrochnen Tag der Teiche
sinkt, wie auf Fischen stehend, mein Gefühl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The deep parts of my life pour onward,
as if the river shores were opening out.
It seems that things are more like me now,
That I can see farther into paintings.
I feel closer to what language can't reach.
With my senses, as with birds, I climb
into the windy heaven, out of the oak,
in the ponds broken off from the sky
my falling sinks, as if standing on fishes.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke ~
