she has been through so much in her young years.

tonight she is in recovery. she is in a safe place.

she is ready to share her story.

those in the room listen intently. tearfully. prayerfully. hopefully.

it is her pain. it is her abuse. it is her addiction.

is is her crazy family environment. it is her abuser boyfriend.

it is her fear. it is her heartache. it is her despair.

it is her choices. it is not her choices, at times.

and yet, it is her consequences.

it is her past. it is her life.

but before she ends, there is a page that does not read the same.

something has changed. the words are wrapped in hope. there is

an unmistakable lift to the story. hope is rising. she is rising.

above her past. above her pain. she steps into a brighter future.

not just another thursday night in my life.

a thursday night full of purpose as i sit in

the classroom of real life. the hope is real.

the investment is real. the rewards are

beyond measure as she lifts her head,

as the light returns to her eyes, as she

embraces hope for her tomorrows.

listen to someone's story ... help them

gather hope for the journey ...

Just trying to think about going back into the corporate environment where I was so successful for the last 18 years.

After all that breast cancer has given, taken and all the lessons in between I wonder if any of the suits of my past will fit again.

I want to experiment...

to explore all of the possibilities.

I want to get closer.

My mind is open.

My heart is the motivator.

My soul is sincere.

Last day of elementary school, moving forward to junior high!

The collage Turning Corners, made with a small woodcut, ink and scraps from failed monotypes, speaks to my experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the days of self-isolation stretched into weeks, I found I needed a way to escape the growing uncertainty, my anxiety, and the endless, media noise surrounding this pandemic. Walking with mindfulness late into the evening has been a way for me to come to peace with this new reality and move forward into each new day. As I walk along my neighborhood streets, and turn corners to see new vistas reveal themselves out of the darkness, I have found solace and a new way home.

I wanted to combine darkness and light with landscape to try to find some order from the turmoil that I was feeling from the pandemic. I used images that I had previously created from observations of nature. Being able to find order and peace among the turmoil is critical to moving forward.

With exclusion and restriction represented all around us, my series of Dancers intend through texts, graphic patterning, and stances to present the avenues of freedom and physical autonomy afforded by dance. This porcelain piece is subtitled “Rumi”, and he says, “Close the ears on your head that listen mostly to lies and cynical jokes There are things to see and hear. Music. Dance.
