On October 6, 2019, we headed out for the Midway Geyser Basin to hike the Fairy Falls Trail. Our objective was to hike to the overlook which is absolutely the best view of the Grand Prismatic Spring (GP), pictures of that coming. The trail is south of the GP and leads to Fairy Falls. About 1.2 miles round trip from the Fairy Falls Trailhead. From this trail approximately 0.6 of a mile there is a spur that climbs 105 feet into the air on a series of switchbacks.
We had just entered the trail from the parking lot when we noticed a group of people taking pictures of an object up on the hill. To our surprise, it was a Grizzly Sow foraging for roots and grubs. She was pretty far away but close enough to be cognizant of her movements and behavior. I only had a 24-105mm lens on a full-frame camera, Nikon D850, at this time. It was too long after this that a Ranger showed up to close off the area until she moved out.
We returned to the parking lot after visiting the overlook only to find that she had moved south to a field directly across the river which ran next to the parking lot. Changing cameras, Nikon D500 and Sigma 150-600mm lens I was able to get a more respectable capture of her. She was pretty far away and I cropped in tight on these images. But anytime you can safely photograph a Grizzly in the wilds is a rewarding endeavor.

After National Train Day Toledo the display equipment was being re-positioned when this scene developed with NS 25N going west on main 2 while the Amtrak Veterans unit moving as "Amtrak 184" took headroom towards main 1.

No wind in the valley; some wind and nice clouds higher up... This called for a reeeaaally long exposure!
Most movements up and down the river are not particularly inspiring. Sometimes however, something happens to suggest a photo is rapidly approaching.
This small sailing dinghy suddenly appeared tacking fast down the Hamble with it’s happy crew shouting, laughing, splashing and generally having a great trip out with Mother in charge.
How could I resist that opportunity!
You only have to wait. Photos just come towards you.
Pity about the walkers………
A male North Atlantic Type 1 off of Grindavir, Iceland.
I sent a different photo of this individual to local researcher, who were able to match it with a photo taken months later in a different area of Iceland helping to study orca movements around the waters of Iceland, and he will soon be added to the local ID catalogue.

Place au rêve,

Yesterday evening, for its first day of opening, I went to Col Agnel.
The second highest road pass in Europe (2744m above sea level).
That same day, I went up by bike.
The atmosphere there was so crazy, with sometimes 4 meters of snow walls, that the desire to go back that same evening was very strong. 🌌
To finally be able to feel the energy and the atmosphere of this surprising place.
The weather forecast was mixed but I was able to have a long enough window to complete my composition.
As we can see in the photo, only the French side of Col Agnel has been completely cleared of snow (the right half of the photo). 🇫🇷
For the Italian side, you will have to wait a little longer (left side of the photo). 🇮🇹
Moreover, we can observe the sand of the Sahara which resurfaces on the snow, as the latter melts.
Its ocher color is enhanced by the diffusion of light pollution from Turin on high altitude clouds. ☁️
The wind visited me throughout the night. A constant, humid wind that really made me feel cold. Even my down jacket was wet, that’s saying something!
My optics then fogged up; which gives these very aesthetic halos on the stars. ✨
I felt so good up there that I found myself, once again, naively smiling at the stars.
I'll let you calmly enjoy every detail of this 360° panorama. 🌟
Make way for the dream,
Jeff
