Following my motto of bad light equals black and white, here is one I captured midday on a blustery overcast day in Northern Minnesota on Lake Superior.
If you look close you can see the icicles hanging from the rocks. I had walked on the top of the pier minutes earlier and could have gone ice skating. The waves had been so high everything including some of the chains between the posts were encased in ice. It may not look all that high from this angle but looking down off the pier standing on the ice was quite concerning.
And if anyone is still reading, I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I really appreciate everyone's kind words and favs over the last year. It's so nice we can all appreciate each others work from all over the world.

The Monte degli Angeli cloister complex was built in Certosa, in Val Senales, at the foot of Mount Santa Caterina.
From 1326 until 1782, the monastery belonged to the order of Carthusian monks. motto: "Silence"

Over time, I have developed three mottos for myself when out photographing, and the third is regarding my tripod. I am rarely happy with results caught without it, and always happy with the outcome when using it. One would think that means it would always be at my side. However, life sometimes dictates otherwise.
The dof in this shot is limited in order to avoid camera shake and create an adequate photo. This is a dead tree trunk with open holes. In an attempt to score a woodland abstract without the use of my tripod, certain constraints gave rise to various limitations. Regardless, it presents an interesting result, and a reminder of my third personal motto.
Onder het motto 'Op Weg met de Blauwe 55'ers' organiseerde de TSP op 4 juni 2011 de afscheidsrit van de blauwe reeks 55 van de NMBS. Ingezet werden de loc's 5515 en 5540 van TUC-Rail. De rit begon te Brussel Noord en voerde via Aarschot, Tongeren, Visé, Angleur, Verviers en Welkenraedt naar Raeren. Van daar weer terug richting Angleur en Kimkempois. Vanuit Kimkempois via spoorlijn 36A naar Y Voroux (Ans) en vervolgens via Waremme en Leuven terug naar Brussel Noord. Ter hoogte van het uitrijsein van Raeren duwt loc 5515 de excursietrein richting station, voorbij aan loc 5540. Rechts ontwaren we de ex NS-loc 2454, ex SNCF-loc 662454 van Rails & Traction, thans (2022) loc van de Stichting 2454 CREW.

Unter dieses Motto könnte man diesen Einsatz von 212 371 stellen.
Am gestrigen 6. Januar 2022 war sie nämlich mit der ersten Übergabe nach Oberheutal zu Gange als sie kurz vor Hütten von mir Fotografiert wurde.
Nachdem also nun bereits ÖPNV über die Schwäbische Alb von Schelklingen bis Trochtelfingen wieder stattfindet, ist nun auch Güterverkehr wieder vorhanden auf der Einst Militärisch genutzten Strecke.
Zwar wurden schon die letzten Jahre hin und wieder ein wenig Güter auf der Strecke befördert durch SAB GmbH in Form von Holzwagen, so stellt aber trotzdem diese Neue Leistung ein neues sehr Interessantes Kapitel dar.
Drücken wir allen die Daumen das auch weiterhin wieder viele Züge auf der Einst Stillgelegten Strecke Fahren werden!
Frei nach dem Motto „Feste muß man feiern wie sie kommen“ ging es am 12.02.2021 trotz Eiseskälte nach Wuppertal-Barmen. Tags zuvor hatte es geschneit und so sollte der damals noch verkehrende NX-Ersatzzug bei herrlichstem Winterwetter fotografiert werden.
Als besondere Überraschung befuhr, sozusagen als Vorprogramm zum NXE, die stahlblaue TRI 110 428 mit einer Wagenüberführung nach Köln die Bühne. Motivbestimmend links im Bild das Opernhaus Wuppertal und rechts im Bild das Kraftwerk „Am Clef“.
Hadn't been to the San Diego Zoo in over 20 years. Enjoyed a great visit there and had to swing by to say hello to the koala bears. So many different "mottos" came to mind it was hard to choose just one, runner ups included: Less Worry...More Sleep, I'm a Professional Tree Hugger, and I Enjoy Koalaty Naps.

Felbrigg Hall
Glory to god in the highest, is the English translation of the Latin motto emblazoned in very large stone letters on the front of the hall. The estate originated with the Felbrigg family. It passed to John Wyndham, who died in 1475, it then remained in the Wyndham family for centuries.
Thomas Wyndham who died in 1522 was a councillor to King Henry VIII. Later residents of the hall included John Wyndham (1558–1645) who was the builder of Felbrigg Hall as we see it today. The last Wyndham of Felbrigg was William Wyndham who died in 1810.
The last owner of the house, before it passed into National Trust ownership in 1969 was Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer. His heir, his brother Richard, was killed in action in the Second World War.
The estate covers around 800 acres, it includes a lake, a walled garden, parkland and woodland.

Meet Capucine, my new miniature tiger! This 4-month old little lady is discovering her new home and is still quite timid with humans. She hides a lot of the time and often doesn't let me get close. But we are getting to know each other very slowly, we play a lot, and I managed to pet her yesterday. She even purred!

This was one of my Dad's memorable tools in raising my sister and me. We were so fortunate to have been very blessed by him.
I woke up this morning with a hankering for a a double cheeseburger and a beer from Red's Java House. Problem is, Red's is 123 miles away. Looks like I gots to make it myself. My motto for the day is "grill baby grill." Now I'm off to the store. All I have to do is shovel the snow off the driveway.

This Flander's Field stained glass window in the Church of the Holy Rude, was installed in 2016 on the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme and commemorates the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders and the loss of 6900 members of the regiment. Their motto was Ne Obliviscaris, Do Not Forget.

So oder so ähnlich ist das Motto der Schlünß-Eisenbahn-Logistik, welche besonders dadurch bekannt ist, dass sie die letzten betriebsfähigen 181er besitzen.
Seit geraumer Zeit fährt an 4 Tagen in der Woche der Cargotrans KLV zwischen Neumünster und Wanne-Eickel, welcher Dank SEL immer eine fotogene Bespannung hat.
Genannter Zug konnte von mir am 01.02.24 mit 181 211 in Ottersberg auf der Reise nach Neumünster abgelichtet werden.
Onder het motto ‘Dampf-Takt über dem Westerwald’ hebben het ‘Zweckverband Schienenpersonennahverkehr Rheinland Pfalz’ en het ‘Rheinland-Pfälzische Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Verkehr und Weinbau’, in samenwerking met Deutsche Bahn, Rivierdampf en tal van anderen, van 3 tot en met 6 oktober 2002 een groots Plandampf-evenement georganiseerd. In verband met de invoering van een starre dienstregeling, reden stoomtreinen over de Lahntalbahn (Koblenz – Giessen), de Oberwesterwaldbahn (Limburg (Lahn) – Hachenburg) en de Unterwesterwaldbahn (Limburg (Lahn) – Siershahn). In totaal kamen acht stoomlocomotieven in actie (en een dieselloc). Loc 50 2740 (privé-eigendom, maar ingezet bij de UEF [Ulmer Eisenbahn Freunde]) vertrekt uit Staffel met trein RB 22899 van Siershahn naar Limburg (Lahn), 4 oktober 2002.

Alljährlich finden sich im Rahmen des internationalen Graffiti-Kunst-Festivals "Meeting Of Styles" Künstler(innen) aus der ganzen Welt in Wiesbaden zusammen um gemeinsam monumentale Kunstwerke zu schaffen. Unter dem Motto "Absolute Freedom" werden dieses Jahr internationale und deutsche 100 Künstler(innen) über 4000qm Betonfläche neugestalten.

unique fact: city hall and the county courthouse are located on Mays Island, an island on the Cedar River. Cedar Rapids is one of only two mainland cities to have their governmental offices on an island (the other being Paris, France).
despite the weather i have always thought of cedar rapids as a great place to live and the best place to raise kids. we have high educational standards, low crime, great midwestern kindness, good cost of living, job opportunity, chicago, minneapolis and kansas city are a 4 hour drive....really the only downfall being the yucky weather we have to tolerate.
and it is a great place to live but this past year has been a huge wake up call for me. i have become more aware for the first time in my life....probably because i have led a somewhat 'sheltered' life. i am so blessed to have wonderful parents who are still married after 30+ years, a great home, everything i always wanted (or at least more than i ever needed), a great college education, i now own my second home at age 29, i own my own business, i'm married, i have two awesome kids, i've been very very very lucky my entire life and i think this has made me unaware of the severity of problems in my own community. i was never exposed to foster kids, homelessness, child abuse, adoption, not on a personal or 'real' level ever, divorce was probably the worst thing my friends had gone through. i've always been aware of others, i have a huge heart and i've always volunteered, helping at nursing homes, delivering food for hacap, assisting at a homeless or woman's shelter for a few days.....but i really did not understand the severity of issues we have right here in our own community.
we always joke about our 'top news stories' and how lucky we are that our biggest problem is people not loading their 'yardies' correctly or that we have a winter storm coming, it's funny but we're lucky, our news isn't filled with mass murders every day, we don't have a lot of crime. well tonight's top news story was 'homeless students'...we have homeless students? a lot of them? yes! we have 710 homeless students in the cedar rapids community school district. what!?!?!?! seven are at my children's elementary school, what!?!?!? some of the schools in our district have as many as 90 children that are homeless. i am shocked, i am sad, i feel so helpless, i feel ignorant....
the sad thing is many (most) of us are only a paycheck away from homelessness, how quickly could we be one of these 'statistics' and we're not even aware of how many people are homeless, or atleast i'm not aware...why do we have so many people living on the streets in a community the size of cedar rapids...what can be done to fix this...no child should have to go 'home' to the streets to sleep in the snow after staying at the public library until close or anywhere else they could find indoors to stay after school. we've had 60" of snow this year, temps of -30 degrees and we have children sleeping out there?!
i don't have an answer, i don't have a solution, i'm dumbfounded and i really feel sick to my stomach, i don't find this acceptable, i don't think its okay, i don't want people to forget about this tomorrow.......i know there are so many problems, so many issues and i can't help every single one but they break my heart....i recently decided to put my passion and energy into families helping families of iowa which is so wonderful and helps foster children (many of the homeless children include children waiting to find foster care) so it does directly relate to this but it doesn't seem like enough. how do we balance helping our own children, providing for them and making sure there aren't other children sleeping in the snow tonight?!
i am shocked, stunned and hopefully can work through to a positive approach to this in the near future....
