Poetic automata on display in “Perpetual Motion”, a fine exhibit of figurative kinetic sculptures at Heron Arts in San Francisco. This growing genre of contemporary art brings human and animal figures into animated motion, using hand-cranks and small motors connected to gears, rope, pulleys and sticks.
Eleven automata artists from the U.S. and abroad were invited to present their works in this show. They share creative talent, a good understanding of mechanics -- and a nostalgic aesthetic.
Featured artworks included “Biodiversity” by Paul Spooner, “Goodnight Moon” by Dean Lucker and Ann Wood -- and my favorite: “Megalodon”, a giant shark spaceship made of an old bomber fuel tank and found materials, by Nemo Gould.
This inspiring visit will inform our own work with puppet shows and mechanical theaters. Going on these weekly art expeditions with Phyllis is one of the real pleasures of ‘semi-retirement.’ We keep discovering new pockets of creativity together, and they feed our own art explorations ...

A few years ago I went to my neices first gymnastics competition. I never liked the photos because of the blur. Happened to be looking at them yesterday, and saw an artistic value to the motion study. These are the best ones.
A Day In The Life - I decided to take pictures, using the different techniques required, and record them as a story of one day in my life. I took pictures throughout my daily routines using the Freeze Motion, Blurred Action and Panned Action while also experimenting with shutter speeds, exposure, lighting, aperture, ISO, self timing, camera movement, subject movement, intentional and unintentional movement, etc. Also, I decided for some of my experimental motion shots to hold the camera facing behind me while I went on with my day, taking shots, at many various settings, every so often to catch a glimpse of a way I have never seen the things I pass by in my everyday life.
Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 25/02/2023 -----
Motion Blur .
Well , I hope I have created sufficient motion blur as my wife and daughter dash past ( quite a number of times as it happened ) . I think the wheels show the motion and how much ground was covered for the shot - and the wheelchair helped make the title as well . I chose to take the shot by the wall as it would not leave a complicated background to distract from the captured movement . I have to say that this is a rare shot for me to post as I do not normally take people shots ! Having said that I must thank my wife and daughter for taking part in the challenge going up and down while I just stood there pushing the shutter button at the right time !!
My choice for a tune for this is an Eagles old track ----
On the other hand , my daughter insists that I should put a different track and as she is sort of in the shot - this is her choice ------------
Yesterday I met these boys who were demonstrating their skills in Liverpool city centre and entertaining everyone. Urban Motion are from Ellesmere Port and I got all their names - Ben, Nathan, Joshua 1, Joshua 2, Matthew, Brian and Tom, so watch out for them on Britain's Got Talent.

Dear friend, this is my new picture which serves as a tribute to cinematography. I am absolutely film-lover! I believe films are not only beautiful images (which can bring a lot of inspiration, of course), but also teach us a lot about life and ourselves.I wrote a blogpost on three films changed my life. I would be glad to discuss.
What are film changed your life? Don't hesitate to share :)

This is an example of blur motion because the subjects (girl and pigeon) are out of focus while the background is in focus.

I just finished a stop motion music video that should be released in about a month.
Due to the nature of the video I was able to do whatever I wanted (within reason and within a low budget...) so I chose to experiment with something I've never done before.
This is the aftermath.
