In the history of photography there are two men who lived almost parallel lives. Their dates are identical (1830-1904), one was a Frenchman and the other an Englishman, and in the second half of the 19th century they explored the idea of motion in photography. Unwittingly they became the originators of the theory behind motion pictures.

Étienne-Jules Marey invented the chronophotographic gun which could take up to 12 consecutive frames per second and all frames were recorded on the same photographic print. Suddenly one could see the subtle changes in position that indicated real motion. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89tienne-Jules_Marey
Eadweard Muybridge had the more colourful life (which you can read about here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eadweard_Muybridge ), but was independently pursuing similar goals to his French "twin". He developed the zoopraxiscope, a device that enabled these static images to be put together to create motion. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoopraxiscope
After these zoo photographs I will post some still (yet continuous) horse racing shots I took which I then used to create a similar motion sequence. For now, this is a simple collage of the two moving elephants I photographed at the Melbourne Zoo. I have placed them together in a manner somewhat like Marey's. The desaturated look is so the foliage does not distract from the elephants themselves.
For comparison with the "twilight" images of this subject I thought I'd post a photograph of the fountain that I took in daylight, from a similar perspective.
This image was taken the following day using the sports mode on the camera, to see if it would give me an image in which the fountain did nt look like an explosion, and to eliminate camera shake and blurring. I guess the water cascades out of the fountain at a fantastic rate ... This still looks fairly explosive!
I have tried to edit out the bikes and other objects. Unfortunately, it hangs my computer! So I have given up for the time being at least
tomorrow my first photography assignment is due then 2 weeks later the second is due. I have the first all done but the second is proving much harder. I have to photograph frozen movement & blurred movement...so easy using digital...film is much trickier. Anyway, tonight I spent a lot of time experimenting with my digital camera before daring to try using film. Time will tell how I went ...fingers crossed ;)
Although marbles may be a little over-used as a subject for Macro Mondays, I thought they would work well for the "Intentional Blur" theme this week. Thanks for taking the time to view my photo - Happy Macro Monday!
After experimentation I used a photo of a very slow colission so you can see the start and rest positions of the orange marble.

Re-kindling an obsession
Whenever I’m in London, I get slightly obsessed by The Tube. Even on a short visit, I managed to get a few shots. The first one – taken en route to The Map House (see yesterday’s entry) – was the impressive entrance to South Kensington Station.

I found this Banana Slug on a hiking trail in Northern California. His right antenna has an action blur he was moving across the trail.
And here's the remedy for boredom...spin around in a computer chair like a goon, and take photos of yourself.
*Some credit has to be given to Chris...he's been inspiring me to embrace my own blur.

This is my best shot for 2020 , I have sat in my neighbours garden for hours listening and watching these hummingbirds, this capture was amazing with the wings in motion the perfect iridescent colour of the feathers on her back. My favourite bird and photo that now hangs on my wall for me to admire.

Robyn and I first connected on Model Mayhem. I still use that site sometimes but it has little value anymore (at least to me). Anyway, once Robyn and I started talking about a photo session, it took a while to pull it all together mostly because of unpredictable wook schedules. But it was defintely worth the effort.
Robyn loved this dance/blur/motion style image I always try to explore. I wish we could have shot again after tnis to be able to do more of this style.
