Human figure in illustration assignement to portray motion. Graphite&Ink Pen on tracing paper on illustration board mounted with tape. Not the most exciting thing in the world but I enjoyed it.

Engine Ja 1275 steams past on an excursion to Whangarei. I had time to capture only two shots, and was lucky to get this.

Thanks to NMBS for being on time!

People go about their lives without really thinking about what they are seeing half of the time. I want to show the perspective of the "watcher" who sits around and watches people pass by. If you set the camera down in a singular position and capture twenty images within a two-minute timeframe, everything that is stationary will be at visible still in the combined image, but everything around those stationary objects will be in motion. These photographs show that. The idea is that you are the "watcher" and seeing the time frame that was photographed without actually being there.

Martha Boto

In the 1930s Argentinian artist Martha Boto was part of one of the first abstract art movements in Buenos Aires, the Asociación Arte Nuevo. In the 1950s she began creating structures and mobiles using transparent materials such as Plexiglas and coloured water. In 1960, she started producing works using motors and coloured lights. Boto was particularly interested in the potential of materials that could modify, absorb and reflect light. Her experiments with movement, illumination and colour played a key role in the development of kinetic and op art.

From Shape of Light 100 Years of Photography and Abstract Art

(May – October 2018)

Shape of Light is the first major exhibition to explore the relationship between the two, spanning the century from the 1910s to the present day. It brings to life the innovation and originality of photographers over this period, and shows how they responded and contributed to the development of abstraction.

Theme motion.

I tried panning. It is really hard when you don't have a view finder. Completely hit and miss.

Motion City Soundtrack at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO. The only other decent picture from all the ones I took with my crappy cell phone camera.

Over the Christmas Holiday a fellow amateur photographer and myself had a friendly bet: See who can get a better picture in 5 categories (Landscape, Lights, Motion, Costume and Portrait).

Taken while off-roading after sunset. It quickly became quite dark and with no streetlights, it was pretty cool. There was a convoy of about 12 trucks!

Fresh beautiful clear water at Yoho National Park, British Columbia. This is my favorite place in the world.

This shot was very hard to do, trying to find a good balance of the aperture and shutter speed was a real pain. I am reasonably happy with how it came out, but wish I could have gotten the color on the outside of the vehicle a little better.

Week One - Motion

Panning is ALOT harder than I thought it was. :P

Today I learnt something new from my buddy, Jack. Freezing of motion, a new form of technique for me. Appeared to be pretty nice.

Like something from a fairy tale, Caisleán Bhiorra (Birr Castle) sits, ivy- and rose-covered, amid the greenery of its expansive gardens. Today, 50 hectares (123.6 acres) of parkland, formal gardens and waterways are administered by the Birr Scientific and Heritage Foundation and are open to the public. In addition to having an interest in botany, the 3rd Earl of Rosse (1800 – 1867) was an astronomer. His wife Mary Rosse, Countess of Rosse, was a pioneering photographer.
