I have been completely obsessed with early "talkie" films of the late 20's & 30's.
Namely "M" by Fritz Lang. Peter Lorre is incredible in that movie, if I can be half as expressive in my work as he is in that film, I will consider myself successful.

Day 27 of 30 Day Photo Project. Today I decided to try some motion shots using a gyroscope that I built back in college. A bit more rust after 10+ years, but amazingly it still worked. I added this effect to give it an old mechanical drawing type feel.

I was at a Flash and Multiple Flash workshop training military photographers how to use the Nikon wireless TTL system. I used a D70s with 4 SB-800 Speedlights set to i-TTL and at various levels of flash compensation to attain the look (ratio) I was after.
At the Apex NC Holiday Parade, there were many opportunities to take photos that represented motion in a neat way. I took my tripod along, but as you would expect along the parade route there was not enough room to set the tripod up, so I had to shoot hand-held. I was flipping ISO to get the long shutter speeds required. How do you think I did? The flag bearers of this band had a wild costume. I like this one in that she appears half stationary, half in motion...
This particular motif is a result of a push from KatyMag (www.flickr.com/people/kategilbert/), my push partner for the month of November from across the pond, and recent addition to the Get Pushed! group (www.flickr.com/groups/getpushed/). Hoping you are enjoying the group, Kate!
Kate gave me two options for my push this round:
------------------------------------
"The first, to produce a good quality colour exterior photograph of your neighbourhood at night. The second, to experiment with capturing people in movement, so that the person/people is blurred, while the background/foreground remain in contrast. That one was set for me and I loved it!"
-------------------------------------
Well, as usual, I tried very hard to combine both options (especially after the predicted FOG spell did not hit this area - guess that is why they call it Apex...). So here is an image of the downtown area of our little village at night, and people in motion too! Katy, I hope this image (and the six other I posted too) meets with your expectations... I had a blast!
I highly suggest that if you like this push, or others you see on the group pages and have always wanted to try a shot like that, join the group and sign up the first week of the month. I guarantee you will enjoy the challenge. We need people like you to participate!
As always, thanks for your views, comments and faves! And hope your Holiday season (yes, Christmas) is blessed and joyous!
Original color.
Even at ISO 200, still some noise. Terrible light conditions.
