This is an exclusive to La Bella Vita in Northern OH. Modigliani is fabulous dinnerware and serving pieces from Rome. We are expanding to their flatware. You can feel how the hands shaped each piece.

The name ‘Silas’ came from a Greek word. It means ‘man from the woods’ and my last name ‘Lam’ in Chinese means ‘woods’. My parents wanted my name to be meaningful and unique so they picked ‘Silas’ and replaced the ‘I’ with a ‘y’. ‘From the woods’ sounds like I’m a monkey or apish animal but I’m not. And just so you know, I am absolutely not Greek. I don’t go camping real often so the ‘man from the woods’ thing is kind of weird. So far, I have never ever met a person with the same spelling of my name. My name was also based on the bible where the Apostle Paul and his co-worker ‘Silas’ prayed and sang in prison.

Another unique fact about me is that I was born in Vancouver, not Edmonton. I lived there for 5 years but I now live in Edmonton. If I describe to you all the details of their lobsters and other yummy seafood in Vancouver, you would be drooling all over my portrait! I guess that is why napkins were invented

I made my self-portrait in the style of Amadeo Modigliani. That’s why I have an extra long neck. I used chalk pastel and had to blend the colours to get what I wanted. It was a fun project to do but it was very messy.

As well as sitting for Modigliani, Picasso owned several works by him, including Girl with Brown Hair, dating from 1918. The Picasso portrait by Modigliani was owned by Picasso in the 1930s

I googled Amadeus and thought it might be fun to try to "do" him in his own style (like I know how to emulate his 'style").

after Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Clemente Modigliani (12 July 1884 – 24 January 1920) was an Italian painter and sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is known for portraits and nudes in a modern style characterized by a surreal elongation of faces, necks, and figures that were not received well during his lifetime, but later became much sought-after. Modigliani spent his youth in Italy, where he studied the art of antiquity and the Renaissance. In 1906, he moved to Paris, where he came into contact with such artists as Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brâncuși. By 1912, Modigliani was exhibiting highly stylized sculptures with Cubists of the Section d'Or group at the Salon d'Automne.
