Blue Eyes Lady

This was done using one line. The line starts at the top of the hair and ends at the curve of the neck. The line doesn't touch or cross at any point, tho I did get kinda close! lol...

Známky Fujeira 1972 Akty Modigliani, razítkovaná séria

Sketching from the masters Modigliani's Jeanne Hebuteme 1917-1918 # 28 mechanical pencil and colored pencils. I've always loved her strong face and expression. I have a hard time doing yellow in faces which are seen a lot in Modigliani's paintings. So I am trying more subtle coloring for skin. Learning as I go. I am trying to sketch the master but make it more my own and I think I'm getting that as she's more like my style but using Modigliani's graceful swan neck. I think I'm falling in love. I love the colors he frames his subjects with often the most luscious purple/violet and green with hints of other colors. Who knows what those circular shapes are bottom? They do draw the eye upward and the red has the color of the hair in it which the scan didn't capture. His eyes are so interesting. I am thinking I will continue this even after the week is over as I want to fill my sketchbook with these and also I am challenged and learning so much from Modigliani and Chagall as well as the others.

Scan of a print I made in the darkroom.

Mixed media collage. Made for the Postage Stamp Swap. Traded.

and even when he's still sleepy I could make his "hair" comb :P

Lab #22...from the book "Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artist. There are 52 creative exercises in this book. I used a picture of my Mom from 1956, when she was 18 years old. If my Mom could see this piece of art, she would smile.

From the museum label: Amedeo Modigliani arrived in France from Italy in 1906 and became an important figure in the Parisian bohemian art community. This portrait perfectly illustrates his pared- down painting style, showing a woman with an oblong face, head slightly tilted. The neck is exaggeratedly long and the drooping shoulders accentuate the expressive elongation of the figure. The unseeing eyes with no pupils have the same greyish-blue tone as the background, leaving the impression of a mask with an empty gaze. The silent immobility of the model reinforces this impression of absence, whilst giving her a certain melancholic grace.

Birth Place of the Painter Amedeo Modigliani

Estudo para xilogravura.

The sitter for this painting was a young working class woman from Montparnasse, the neighbor of Modigliani’s Parisian studio. Following principles of pictorial construction pioneered by Cézanne and Picasso, Modigliani manipulated and distorted her form and spacial relationships. Framed within a modest interior, Elvira faces the viewer, leaning on a sharply sloping table seen from above.

The artist’s signature device of leaving the sitter’s eyes blank denies the viewer access to the woman’s inner self and emphasizes formal concerns. The viewer focuses on the continual line that defines the woman’s face, and the contrast between her austere black dress and the actively brushed pale blue background.

There are in fact 3 souls buried under that slab.
