The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, located in the center of Chinatown, looks like an ancient temple, but it was built in recent years, exactly in 2007. Despite its modernity, visiting the interior allows a journey through hundreds of years of Buddhist tradition.
I had this picture in mind when I first visited Singapore a year ago. I found the building from which it can be taken and I went up several floors until I found the composition I wanted. But once there, when I realized that the sky was not going to be interesting and that the numerous cranes that were behind the temple would have been almost impossible to eliminate in the post-processing, I decided not to take the photograph and return someday to get a better result. Giving up a photo that you hope to get is never easy, especially when you are more than 10,000 miles far from home. However, sometimes we have to accept that the conditions are not the best and return on another occasion.
So when this year I selected the places to photograph in Singapore, I had clear that this temple was going to be among the chosen ones. Having more days to photograph the city, I could organize much better, deciding between one place or another depending on the weather conditions. This time I was looking for a day with some clouds above the skyscrapers that would make the sky more interesting. The fact that it wasn´t weekend, was also important to have less people and cars in the surroundings. It is necessary to decide well the floor from which we will take the photograph, since the more we go up the greater will be the distortion that we will have to correct later, and if we stay too low the skyscrapers will be covered by the temple. Placing the tripod was really complicated, since with the wide angle it was impossible not to include part of the same building in which we were. Opting for the vertical image allowed me to get a totally clean scene with no unwanted elements in the composition.

Yangtze River Cableway and Dongshuimen Bridge, Chongqing, China
Continued from my previous Chongqing
post (flic.kr/p/2imuXyX).
This was taken from Dongshuimen Bridge with Yangtze River Cableway at left side.
Yangtze River Cableway is a must-visit attraction for tourists in Chongqing. The cableway across the Yangtze River was put into operation in 1987 to increase the efficiency of transport between the Yuzhong and Nan'an districts across the Yangtze River without building expensive new bridges. It is a span of 1,166 meters (3800 feet), and mainly used by the local population for inexpensive travel across the Yangtze River at the begining. But now many modern bridges had been build up along the river, and now now many tourists found this old-style transportation very enjoyable while crossing the Changjiang River.
Let us hope that the old-style cableway will continue to operate.
From the 2019 Musée d'Orsay exhibit "Posing Modernity: The Black Model from Manet and Matisse to Today," the title of this enormous canvas by François-Auguste Biard is L'Abolition de l'esclavage dans les colonies françaises en 1848 (Proclamation of the Abolition of Slavery in the French Colonies, 27 April 1848.)
The painting has since been returned to the Museum of the History of France at the Palace of Versailles.
Just around the corner from this shot in Warsaw, I spotted a rather interesting mural.
The image is by Belgiam comic book artist Francois Schuiten and the mural itself was carried out by a few Good Looking painters:-)

in the slender shadows of madrid's cuatro torres, life casts its own silhouette against the canvas of modernity. a solitary figure, adorned in the casual garb of city living, strides through the confluence of light and dark. she is immersed in her own soundscape, a private concert hall moving through the geometric stillness of the shopping mall's architecture. her drink, a vibrant concoction, contrasts with the monochrome palette of urban design. she's a transient brushstroke on the city's ever-changing mural, each step a color, each breath a note, amidst the pillars of progress that are the cuatro torres, reaching skyward like stanzas of an urban symphony.

From The Wilderness Society:
In 2014 the BLM launched an effort to map wind energy resource potential on public lands in the West. When completed, this mapping tool will inform where wind projects are and are not built. Wind projects should be guided to the most appropriate places by:
* Siting wind facilities on brownfields (abandoned or underused industrial land) or other previously disturbed lands.
* Excluding wind development from sensitive areas Incentivizing development in areas that are pre-screened and found to have minimal environmental conflicts
* Siting associated transmission lines in low-conflict areas
* Offsetting unavoidable impacts from development or “mitigating” by protecting or restoring other lands and wildlife habitat.

Interesting website by project partner Argonne National Laboratory, with draft findings:
"The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is evaluating wind energy development potential and possible sensitivities with other resources on public lands across 11 western states. The West-Wide Wind Mapping Project maps wind energy resources on the public lands and identifies existing land use exclusions and other potential resource sensitivities that may affect wind energy development opportunities. The project has mapped the following areas:
•BLM-administered lands where wind energy development is excluded by law, BLM policy, or existing land use plan decisions;
•BLM-administered lands with potentially developable wind resources where environmental concerns or land use restrictions may require more extensive reviews for proposed wind energy projects; and
•Other BLM-administered lands with potentially developable wind resources."

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Pena, located in the Castle of Leiria, is a representative example of the Portuguese Gothic architecture of the 14th and 15th centuries, associated with the reign of King João I. Its original construction dates back to the 12th century, but it was later rebuilt, featuring characteristic elements such as ogival arches and high windows that allow light to enter, as well as a chancel with a ribbed vault. This religious space, which once served as a Cathedral, has undergone several changes over time and, after the extinction of the religious orders, has been adapted for cultural functions, such as concerts and conferences. The structure remains in limestone, contrasting with the wooden floor introduced in restoration interventions that aimed to preserve its architectural integrity while promoting its contemporary use. Thus, the church not only reaffirms the historical heritage of the Avis dynasty, but also adapts to the new times, reflecting a balance between the past and modernity.
