On first glance nothing seems different, trees are bigger but few will remember the low glass canopy with Shopping Centre Glazing on right hand. Two single storey wings came out of the shopping building and formed a large Public Square, with the church on other side of the street to give it a nice setting. Marks and Spencer now stands where the square was. As the city grows, the lack of a large Public Square would be more noticeable.

Architecture – Modern

This is a fifth series of buildings (some as photographed), glass panels, abstract shapes formed from buildings. Most are in London, although they could be any city. I have not named any building, nor have attempted to find Architects or Designers. I have just altered things to my own taste, nothing is sacrosanct, nothing lasts for ever, new ideas quickly become old as will these images be the moment I post them. Please enjoy.

Modern tower blocks in the centre of Basingstoke. I like the way the adjacent building was reflected in the glass of the building on the left.

house Lange, almost 100 years old and so fit, really timeless architecture

In this shot of the Bjarke Ingels Group 2016 Serpentine Pavilion you can clearly see some deformation of the fibreglass boxes that form the structure. I must admit I visited the structure a few times during it's stay in front of the Serpentine Gallery and each time I did wonder whether I'd arrive to find it in a big heap.........

From Wikipedia : "Every year since 2000 the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a temporary summer pavilion by a leading architect. The series presents the work of an international architect or design team who has not completed a building in England at the time of the Gallery’s invitation. Each Pavilion is completed within six months and is situated on the Gallery’s lawn for three months for the public to explore. Cecil Balmond has been a creative force behind Serpentine Pavilion programme."

The Thian Hock Keng Temple, which translates as “Palace of Heavenly Fortune”, is one of the oldest and most important Hoklo Chinese temples in Singapore. It is dedicated to the worship of Mazu, a Chinese sea goddess.

Informally known as "The Vase".

Soon to be completed the latest skyscraper on the London skyline.

At 50 stories high, One Blackfriars is London's tallest residential tower.

The 170-metre high tower, with 274 apartments and a boutique hotel with more than 160 bedrooms, is situated on the South Bank. The building was designed by award-winning SimpsonHaugh Architects.

The San Diego Central Library was designed by San Diego architect Rob Wellington Quigley. Characterized by the Iconic lattice dome, the library opened in downtown San Diego in 2013. This building is unique and instantly recognizable among buildings; Is it a hat? An umbrella? However you interpret the steel-and-mesh lattice dome topping it, the city’s flagship library is unique, modern, attractive, and distinctive. The nine-story steel and concrete structure is considered a masterpiece in concrete construction. The interior is no less impressive. The massive central space is defined by a gigantic arch, and floating stairway.

The 1952 - i.e. Soviet period - building at Gedmino Prospektas 13 in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius. This is a mixed use building with apartments and restaurants. Gedimino Propsektas houses most of Lithuania’s government institutions as well as being one of the country’s most prominent shopping streets. The green roofed building on the left is the GO9 shopping centre, originally built in 1893, and later housing the Central Committee of the Lithuanian Community Party during Soviet times.

A different kind of sunset is what San Francisco has to offer, with its fast moving low clouds around the city, serving as a filter to the sunlight. The modern architecture shown is the Hamon Observation Deck of the deYoung Museum, constructed around two decades ago.
