This shot won first prize at the Stonewall Hotel Photo competition. Since then I have shot 1 other model and am looking at doing more model photography.
1:9 Halcyon Model Kit
This took way longer that I expected. Which seemed like a very straight forward assembly and easy paint, ended up as a very challenging and interesting kit.
I used a real tiny chain, since the molded one looked NOTHING like the movie prop. But overall, it's a very accurate model, I was surprised with the level of detail this guy has. My only complaint is his legs look kind of skinny... I'm not sure if Stallone's legs look like that, but they just seem a little off (just A LITTLE though, and this does not detract from the overall look)
Whatever you may think about the movie, you have to admit that the costume looks cool!

Lighting info
Trying out a setup that would give the model interesting sparkles in her eyes and shadows here and there, I used a Profoto D1 with a white Profoto Softlight Reflector (beautydish) as my main light camera left, very close, and a large 5 foot (150 cm) softbox Octa camera left for fill.
The background and rim light came from two Profoto Compact behind one diffusion screen each, pointing slightly towards the model's back to keep the background from blowing out completely. Bookends on either side of her stopped light bouncing around inside my small studio, and added a little contrast on the sides of her face.

Shot of the front of a Philco model 20A chassis I found in Alliston, Ontario. Cabinet needs work, grill cloth was torn beyond repair but the chassis appears to be very clean. I removed the cover that goes over the 4 tubes on the right for the photo but I have it and it's in great shape.

SB-24 on the table bouncing off the ceiling at 1/2 power
SB-600 into shoot thru umbrella at full power.
I've been doing more and more of these kind of shoots at work. Amazing the improved results you can get with just two relatively inexpensive flashes, a cheap shoot thru umbrella and some £15 wireless triggers.
