So, I chose this picture because spiders interest me in the sense that they inspire such intense emotions/responses in people (personally, I tend to think that they're kind of cute but my sister flips a lid if she sees even just a daddy-long-leg). The most common responses, I've noticed, are either that of fear or revulsion. I was hoping that this picture could inspire a different emotion than just fear. To me, this spider makes me think of a silver-screen actor, walking sadly through the fog in a little fedora.
Nevada is home to 23 species of bats that are commonly misunderstood and they often go unseen since they are active at night. The reality is that bats play a pivotal role in almost every ecosystem. They quietly go about all night long eating insects and helping us get rid of pests. Since many of our bats roost in mines, BLM Nevada works closely with the mining industry and Nevada Department of Wildlife to survey, protect and preserve occupied abandoned mines through gating. Bats get a bad reputation, but because we don’t see them, we often don’t appreciate all that they really do for us.

The beesies told me all about their family. I think I sort of misunderstood the few brothers and sisters… they are everywhere! There are millions of them in the country and a few of them even managed to make it to a pool on Flickr. So today I looked at all the brothers and sisters of my two newest friends to see what they are up to. They seem to be having lots of fun. I do wonder if more beesies will find their way to our home.

Often overlooked and generally regarded as a nuisance, the humble pigeon is a beautiful bird. I always love the iridescent metallic colours in it's plumage.

I did that yesterday evening. The photos of Marylin Monroe on which she had put a little cross to show the ones she didn't want to be published inspired me a lot.
The smooth, deadly lines of one of the most misunderstood of creatures. I have seen many sharks at the beach, from the boat and even had one brush and bump the bottom of my kayak. Though they inspire a quickening of the heart and a corkscrew-like chill up the spine - they truly have more to fear from me than I from them.
Slightly blurred - but I like the "dreamlike" quality of the effect! A "happy accident" as Mark Ross would say...
