The story behind Iron Butterfly's iconic song, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," is the result of a happy accident that continues to bring a smile to many.
The famous title is actually a drunken misinterpretation of the phrase "In the Garden of Eden."
According to legend, vocalist and keyboardist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening after drinking a significant amount of wine. When he played it for drummer Ron Bushy, who was tasked with writing down the lyrics, Ingle's intoxicated speech caused the title to be completely misunderstood.
Bushy jotted down the phonetic mispronunciation he heard, and the band loved the way it sounded. The strange, mystical name perfectly matched the psychedelic rock sound of the song's now-legendary 17-minute jam session.
Formed in San Diego in 1966, Iron Butterfly and their landmark 1968 hit provided a dramatic, heavy sound that helped pave the way for the hard rock and heavy metal music that would follow.

My own very wonderful father died one year ago. I miss you everyday dad and love you.
This photo is also to honor all those beautiful wolves who were chased down and murdered recently in our state. Animals and wildlife care about their young just like we do. Predators are gravely misunderstood. As author of the book NVER CRY WOLF Farley Mowat stated so well:
“We have doomed the wolf not for what it is, but for what we deliberately and mistakenly perceive it to be –the mythologized epitome of a savage ruthless killer – which is, in reality, no more than a reflected image of ourself.”

A little flower was very curious
she felt that she was being fenced in
by a grey alternate world

Black Bears are so fascinating to watch with their interesting individual personalities. A beautiful and too often misunderstood animal that is deserving of our profound respect. For one they help make our forests so beautiful with the way they fertilize the forests with the fish they eat.
We all have good and bad days, for some the bad days are worse than for others. I was talking to friend today and they told me they are having a really bad day, I know how that goes and sometimes it is hard to pick yourself up. If this is you today, message that friend that you want to talk to because most likely they will listen and then just pick your ass up off the ground and keep going. It will get better. This pic is a mess, but I made the best I could of it. Do the same with all of your situations and you will make it through it. One step at a time one breath at a time if you have to. XOXO

April 27th is International Hyena Day which advocates for changing the public's perspective on hyenas, and seeing their importance on Earth.
Hyenas don't have the greatest reputation due to centuries of bad publicity through literature and folklore. Spread through Africa and Asia, hyenas are intelligent mammals living in clans of 10 to 120 animals. They are skilled hunters, and not only scavengers which still makes them essential to prevent the spread of disease. They have highly acidic stomachs to break down their food, even though it isn't the freshest quality...
Their "demonic laugh" is often misunderstood, as it occurs when a lower-ranking animal is stressed. Hyenas are vulnerable to extinction because of habitat loss and persecution by farmers and poachers.

The call from an adult is a loud "Jay Jay!" this one has a wee little crackled call "Jaaay, Jaaay." We have several juveniles visiting - not sure where they have nested but I finally managed a photograph of this young one. More white around the eyes and the pink at the corner of her beak.
I adore these birds, like Magpies they can be misunderstood or unloved. But Jays mate for life and are incredibly smart. And who doesn't love those blue feathers!

I don’t normally repost images, or cropped versions of already posted images. But learning about photography, like learning about most things, is hardly linear. The best part of learning is often finding out that something you had thought you learned and knew, that you had under your belt, maybe wasn’t as secure as it seemed. There was a notorious Danish philosopher who suggested that the best way to teach someone was to say something under your breath as you walked by them - so that they had to think about it and mull it over, rather than lecturing in a classroom.
Though the idea of saying something under your breath is a kind of metaphor or parable, someone did that with respect to the image I posted yesterday, and sure enough I learned something I thought I knew was instead something I thought, and maybe misunderstood. Thanks for taking the time to make the suggestion Chantal (and, in another context, James) - it is really appreciated.
