Our Daily Challenge: Miniature

Spent the day today at a macro floral workshop - this was one of my favorite keepers.

The brass hand was originally on its own, featuring as a paper weight or desk item. Mid 19th century a fashion of making miniature hands arose, usually in metal. It was attached to this marble base at a later stage.

Measurment marble base 16,5 x 6,3 cm.

Miniature horses are smaller that ponies with a height of 34-38 inches (86-97cm)

Unlike common thoughts they are not dwarves but simply a breed of very small horses. Some serve as service animals.

Miniature Lupine (Lupinus bicolor) a/k/a Bicolored Lupine. North Table Mountain. Near Oroville, Butte Co., Calif.

I applied a basecoat to the miniature for the "black" areas - the first coat is a dark grey that's about 3:2 black to white, applied with a brush. I went over it with a thinned black and intend to do a third pass once this has a chance to cure, since the really wet paint is cutting down to primer in some spots. The charcoal grey is visible on the base still.
