Cool story about this shot

I already told you about Richard Wilson's *sculpture* "Slice of Reality" (from the year 2000), 15% of an old dredger, the other 85% is cut off. I'm a big fan of this location since I 'discovered it' back in 2010.

The funny thing is when I'm in London and I ask someone about this piece of pop-art, nobody knows of its existence. Anyway, it was on my wishlist to visit it at friday night together with Scott Wilson. I googled the Thames tides table, so I knew we would have low tide over there between 8 and 11 o' clock in the evening.

So after doing our bankside and Tower Bridge tour I suggested to take the tube to North Greenwich (O2) and so we did. To get down to the Thames it's a short walk from the O2, and when we descended towards the muddy area alongside the river Scott immediately recognized the photographic possibilites of this awesome place, yelling: "Now this is hardcore photography!" Hehe, and it sure was - especially after doing the 'tourist thing' on the Tower Bridge, LOL.

It's a fantastic place for long exposure stuff, huge clouds (and airplanes) rapidly passing by plus the pretty lights of Canary Wharf. All this, together with that huge, quite absurd sliced ship made it all quite surreal!

So there we were waving about with torches to lit up the intestines of the ship, slipping and sliding over the muddy banks of the Thames, sinking deep here and there, splashing away, while trying to keep an eye on each other not to end up in our shots all the time (we both were working with ULTRA wide angles, hehe). We were having a ball!

Actually, I was so enchanted by the whole 'moment' of being there, in a foreign country, in another metropole, at such a stunning photographic location under such excellent conditions, together with Scott who I only just met in the afternoon... it was mindblowing. I was so perplexed I only took about 25 shots in 2 to 3 hours or something.

Get back! oh wait...

In fact we were so excited we didn't even realize the water came back so fast! The difference between low and high tide in the Thames is about 7 meters (21 ft.) and we we're doing perfectly alright close to the 'Slice of Reality', but we didn't realize the water already got back around the corner, where we entered the area! Thank goodness there were still a few (slippery) rocks along the embankment sticking out above the water which we used to make it back to where we came from. If it wasn't for Scott helping me out with my gear I'd probably be stuck there, waiting for a helicopter! LOL

Whatever, even if we should have waded out of that place it still would be the pinnacle of our London meet-up, I'm sure Scott would agree. I hope you all enjoy the shot(s)!

The northern lights directly over the Tuktoyaktuk twin pingos February 20th, 2015 . For this shot I decided to try a second hand lens that I purchased a few years ago for about $200....a great sharp manual lens, Nikon 28mm f/2.8 Al-s with little to no distortion, I would highly recommend it to anyone !! :) see review here - www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/28f28ais.htm

Standing there with the elements blowing me away with its gusty cold wind and mindblowing views, my tripod emerged as a champion! A true test of my new Manfrotto 190ProB.

I discovered this spot today on the marine drive! Will go back there for sunrise view, very soon! :)

Please zoom in to 100% to see all the detail. Just incredible pattern nature comes up with. Horrible winter weather calls for indoor projects, This was created with dry ice, a flash and a couple of rgb led panels. A bit tricky to get right at first but once going it revealed some amazing patterns. Just mindblowing the complexity for something so (relatively) small and simple. Imagine if we could see the air we breath :)

As I was returning from Venice to my accomodation in a nearby city, the sun was putting up the best show possible. It was a perfect completion to an amazing day in the Canal City.

I asked my friend to stop the car, and quickly jumped out with my gear. Thank god, Prabhakaran had lent me his 100-400mm lens for this trip. It was the perfect lens to capture this moment.

Do you see my angel again here... She is in the form of a flying bird.

a massive geomagnetic storm hit the earth on the night 10./11.10.2024 and caused mindblowing northern lights. Even in Ireland the sky the Aurora lit the sky in green, red, orange and purple from east to west with corona overhead. For sure a night to remember. I am thankful for the luck to witness this

We managed to find this deal to rent the train on the main train station of Damascus. The idea was to go to Bosra in this train. But the railway was very old and poorly maintained and we couldn't make it to Bosra in the end, since the train didn't have enough traction to continue and so it stopped.

So we're basically stuck in the middle of the countryside, at evening, somewhere in Syria. We're well received by a family living near the railway and had tea with them, while together with the train driver we tried to find a solution.

This came in a typical Minivan that drove us by night the remaining kilometres to go to Bosra. Of course the magnus opus of all this day, the Roman Theatre, was already closed. But this is not sweet Europe, what was about to happen would be impossible to conceive in the west.

After a few minutes, we managed to find who was the doorman of the Theatre and by speaking money, it was possible to open the doors just for us! This all in the middle of the night.

Of course we couldn't see much, apart from the glow from the doorman's lantern. Anyway, it was still magical, being in UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the middle of the night.. Just mindblowing! One of the largest theatres of the Roman era and one of the best preserved. You could sense the monumental proportions of the building and the fact the it was night, just made it more misterious.

I'll never forget that day.

I quite like this. Partially because it was so much fun. After about 10 minutes, I was all white, and so was the forest. It looked like it had been snowing.

What I love most about photography is that it's so therapeutic. I can be in such an awful mood (like I was today) and I can just walk down to the ocean or to the forest, and shoot whatever I feel like, and just like that, I'll feel like myself again.

I can't imagine myself doing anything else for the rest of my life.

I thought I would just sit and relax along the Platte River. Wow, to my surprise, I saw this lovely deer swimming to get to the other side. It was very cool to watch! :)

i thought i should kill myself. the mindblowing life-sized blythe models for Bottega Veneta were in town and we missed them! mirage and valentine were NOT pleased. i can only hope this photoshopped token of goodwill appeases them.

The light in San Francisco was spooky on Saturday - yellow and flat. Here's what the scene looked like before the mindblowing sunset and double rainbow that occurred just after.

This was taken from Coit Tower. In view: North Beach/Columbus Ave; Ghirardelli Square; Fort Mason, the Marina, and of course the Golden Gate Bridge.

LINA mindblowing

After false kiva we went to Arches for some more light painting around 3 am, I almost threw in the towel at this point for the comfort of the sleeping bag. I mustered up the last bit of energy I had though and am very happy I did!

The small bright light you see in the lower left is me and my flashlight. I left that in to give a sense of scale of this giant arch, mindblowing to see in person.

30 years ago Shenzhen was a fishing village with 300 inhabitants. Now it has double the population of London, a boiling vertical metropolis of neon skyscrapers that recalls the film Bladerunner. Truly a mindblowing rate of development.

Dragonflies are born in the water and take to the sky. They are the fastest insect in the world; an apt symbol for the city I thought.

Tourist/people are strange. Posing guide, new method: have friends (long hair needed), stay nicely (smiling) next to each other and when the photographer (sic!) shouts out loud, try throwing (of course synchronised) your long hair in an opposite direction. the effect is MINDblowing. I love Venice.

it was a mindblowing red burning sky half an hour after sunset with a stunning scenery at Signal de Botrange (highest point in Belgium by the way)

I went for a walk in the fog today at Crane Meadows and I felt as if I was not alone!

I guess I had company. I had Lucy with me to brave the spooky fog!

9904 The utterly mindblowing sight of this on finals as we arrived at the car park at Atsugi NAS had us scrambling for camera gear one minute later it would have been too late, all it needed was one traffic light on RED and we would have been stuffed, The 71st Squadron Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Flying Boat spent around half an hour on the deck before departing a sight to behold for sure.

For me the star of the show at Air Waves Portrush. Stunning and mindblowing to watch and hear.

Another CN train that came completely out of the blue, CN G89891 rolls South through Lucedale, MS with 2 KCS ES44s leading BNSF Warbonnet/Fakebonnet 735.

This is the type of stuff CN is known for in the Mobile area (Lucedale included). They don't run a lot of trains but every now and then they'll run something mindblowing (for example, KCS 4006 leading that coal train I posted a while back).

I know it's not my best shot, but I didn't want to deprive you of this Merdad Collection 902 Coupe. It's the only one in the world, fitted with seats of the Ferrari 599, tuned to some mindblowing 685hp and it obviously has two doors less. Take a look at their homepage:

After an extremely hot day, we had the most insane evening sky today. All these clouds were bluffing, like the day before - not a drop of rain fell but it was a mindblowing spectacle.
