Unfortunately we don't get such amazing colours on the milky way as the southern hemisphere.

And very often the auroras makes the milky way disappear behind it's strong lights.

Whilst most part of the country was experiencing this atmospheric river, I was happy to spend some time in Otago riding the rail trail in (mostly) fine weather. Last night the last of the clouds dissipated for a while which allowed me to spend a couple of hours at the Butchers Dam. I arrived close to midnight, hence it was a bit of a challenge finding a spot to set up.

It's been a long time since I last photographed Milkyway. Starry nightsky is always beautiful, but milkyway makes it so much interesting and even more beautiful. 6 pics stacked with StarryLandscapeStacker.

again insomnia kicked in and and I couldn't get to sleep last night so knowing the MW was up at 2.am got up to try a few shots

...and an abandoned house

A car passes going north over the bridge over Wirreanda Creek, south of Hawker, South Australia under the Milky Way and a streak from the Titan 4B rocket body. Tamron lens, processed in Lightroom with a daylight white balance for colour in the stars.

thanks for looking ;)

I haven't done one of these for a while, so head torch selfie! The Petzl Nao is pretty bright... Wilpena Pound in the back ground. Tamron lens, processed in Lightroom with daylight white balance for colour in the stars.

Milky Way from within the Grand Canyon. At this point, in the far eastern part of the canyon at mile 22, the canyon runs north to south, allowing for this wonderful alignment from within the canyon.

M. Zuiko f/1.8 fisheye. Stack of 10 25 sec exposures.

My next investment will be a FF-camera. My loyal D3100 is not very good at low light shots like that.

Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas.

Shot in the middle of the Ramon Crater, Negev Desert, Israel.

Nikon D750, Samyang 14mm f/2.8

The Moon was about to set on this Spring night while still lighting up the peaks around Yosemite valley. The Milkyway just appeared in this blue sky.

I revisited this panorama with just a single row of eight shots. I like how this one looks like its during sunset at the end of day. Had a previous version with two rows, lower with the foreground lit up with the Moon and the top row with the sky/milkyway in the dark an hour later after moonset. Shot with a Voigtlander 21mm f1.8 Ultron Asph lens at F2.4/20 sec/Iso 1600.

Not a bad place to spend time. Nearby national park is one of my favorite places to photograph milkyway.

Image stacked from 10 seperate exposures to reduce noise.
