I could go on for days posting images of waves crashing against the breakwater at Brighton Marina, but I should probably stop here. I wish I'd been able to steady my camera better in the gale force wind, but I'm very happy I was able to enjoy the wild and powerful beauty of storm Imogen at first hand.

These guys are fast. So hard to get good images without spooking them. This is an older one. I tried using a flash this past week and they are so fast that they outran my shutter and moved before the image was captured. A lot of blurry birds. Oh well, just an excuse to try again ;)

Blondie drops by to visit most afternoons. It's not me she's looking for. It's the sweet syrup in the hummingbird and oriole feeders that she seeks. She's a high caliber thief. She has her eyes on the prize which is hanging at the top of the railing.

The African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana), also known as the African savanna elephant, is the largest living terrestrial animal with bulls reaching a shoulder height of up to 3.96 m (13.0 ft). They have the largest brain and longest gestation period of any land animal with each pregnancy averaging 21.5 months.

Since elephants are so large, they require an enormous amount of food.

Its diet consists mainly of grasses, creepers and herbs. Adults can consume up to 150 kg (330 lb) per day. During the dry season, the diet also includes leaves and bark. Tree bark in particular contains a high level of calcium. Elephants drink 180–230 Litres of water daily, and seem to prefer sites where water and soil contains sodium.

The mighty mongoose is a fierce fighter and often moves around as a gang. It is fearless, has lightning-quick reflexes, and has no hesitation in taking on even poisonous snakes. Most predators leave it alone.

Al tramonto il cielo offriva spettacolo. Grandi nuvole colorate creavano forme mutevoli con rapidità, sospinte da forti venti di fine estate. Colonne di nubi che attraversavano il cielo quasi a voler mostrare la loro potenza.

One of my most memorable events as a second grader was learning to spell M I S S I S S I P P I. The redundancy of the letters helped a lot, It was almost like learning a song the way the letters flowed off my lips in a rhythmic pattern. I was proud of it and often volunteered my knowledge of this mystic phenomena to strangers as a way of impressing them of my incredible knowledge as such an early age. Looking south down this river from the 76 landing in Perry County one can see why the word MIGHTY often precedes its name.

The roads are bare - the sun is warm - the birds are returning - and the highway department has bucketed out the end of our driveway. That means that spring has definitely arrived in Alaska.

Our temperatures are warming to the low to mid-thirties during the day but dropping to single digits at night. This is the time of year to break out the camera gear, and photograph the snow-covered mountains, and slowly melting streams. April will arrive in one week, and it is one of the prettiest times of the year to enjoy the far north.

In this photo you see Mt. Drum - a peak that is part of the mighty Wrangell Mountains. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy this view each time I travel toward Glennallen. Come on up and see it for yourself.

This was from day 1 in Wells Grey Provincial Park in Clearwater BC, It is a wonderful place full of trails and falls to hike to. I had been to a lot before but found a few I hadn't seen before on this trip. Left the 2 people in for perspective. Kris

This little Carolina wren weighted less than 1 oz; but she sang so loud that we can hear from far away. Indeed, she is tiny but mighty.

Taken in Pilanesberg Game Park. We were sitting in a hide when we noticed three rhinos coming down to drink.

Waves of leaves from a mighty Red Oak (Quercus rubra) earlier this month. Red Oaks are native to North America growing throughout the Northeastern parts of the U.S., Southeastern Canada and as far south as Georgia. (Although as our climate continues on its warming phase, the growth patterns of all things shift and change accordingly.) Part of the forest canopy Red Oaks reach heights of 90ft - 140ft.

Tiny but Mighty - A good way to describe the personality of the Chestnut-backed Chickadee. A fun bird that I see a lot of but rarely get great photos of. This one was posing up close and I couldn't resist.

Tiny but Mighty - These Coppersmith Barbets really stole the show. They're tiny, but have a big attitude. The other species around the hide clearly had a healthy respect for them. Their colors and large bill somewhat reminded me of a tiny toucan.
