These amazingly coloured birds migrate from New Guinea to Far North Queensland each year for the wet season to breed. They construct incredible communal nests in specific trees, with some locations housing hundreds of nests all together. As you can see in this image, the nest are built right on top of each other & can cover the whole tree, like a sprawling high-rise of Metallic Starling apartments!
Amazingly, each year these birds return to the same trees they have nested in previously to breed & raise their young, before heading back to New Guinea.
This was not the shot i wanted to do... at all!
when i read todays challange, i automatically visualised the most metallic image i could... 'goldfinger' anyone? the image of that poor girl lying face down on a bed covered head to toe in gold paint... iconic!
sooo, that's what i was going for. so why did i end up with this (which i'm growing ever fond of... but not what i wanted to do, waaa!) because after a couple of hours of my poor OH painting me with gold body paint, with a small artbrush no less, and then spraying me with gold spray, i still wasn't gold enough!!!
what did they do, cement the stuff on the poor girl???
anyhooo, luckly i prepared for the very sad and annoying fact that this wouldn't work and also bought the most amazing gold and bronze masquerade mask and a kind of shawl (think it may be a belly dancers sarong actually) covered in gold coins.
so, i'm metallic, the mask is metallic and so is the headress! there you go! now i'm off to try and wash off 5 layers of gold body paint ;-(

418 (YR13PMX) turns onto Valpy Street in Reading Town Centre as it heads to Coley Park on the 11.
Next into the new Orbits livery is the Bronze 11, 418 has returned with a lovely coat of metallic bronze and 419 will shortly receive the same paintwork.
Submitted to Guildford Photographic Society print competition Sept 2009. I've added this description to experiment with sparking some discussion about how shots are grabbed (ermmm, planned and composed) and processed. See my fourth comment below for initial confessions ;-)
Oh yes, the judge gave it 7/10 in Club class, saying some nice things but also that it's a bit "heavy". He didn't seem keen on high-contrast shots. I don't care cos I'm happy with it!
It was a really chilly evening Saturday but it didn't deter me from getting into this new minidress and heading out to meet up with Cindy & Marianne at Bob-O's in Chantilly, VA for a cocktail (and some pictures with admirers) then going to a little MeetUp event where we met up with Janet & Cicely at the Vantage Point restaurant in Rosslyn, VA overlooking the Potomac! We all had a lovely dinner then headed over to Freddie's Beach Bar in Crystal City, VA for another round of drinks and to take in the end of the Drag Show!
It was a really fun night despite it being so cold!
My ensemble for the evening is built around this wonderfully shiny & tight blue dragon scale wet look lycra spandex peplum minidress with cap sleeves from the lovely folks at coquetryclothing.com matched up with gray fully fashioned stockings from secretsinlace.com and my black patent peep toe pumps with the 5½" heels from venus.com.

Metallic Starling migrate from New Guinea to Far North Queensland each year, seeking optimal breeding conditions provided by the wet season. Come January, feeding of newly hatched chicks is in full swing, & the offspring are voracious feeders! Both parents are kept occupied foraging & serving up a smorgasbord of small fruits & insects for their fast-growing young. This Starling had plucked a species of cicada that I think might be a Black Tree-ticker (Birrima varians), a very hearty meal for its lucky offspring!

This is a bird in the starling family Sturnidae. The adult has brilliant red eyes, a long tail and green-glossed black plumage. Immatures are pale below with dark streaks.

There go another 60 pieces of (virtual) plastic from myself. My new Bluerender setup surprisingly produces such enticing renders that I could not abstain from entering a TT into a (local) contest and even posting it on Eurobricks.
I highly recommend you give it a visit in order to appreciate this beautiful shade of purple in its full glory, including animation and see-through clothing bonnet.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am addicted to three animals- peacocks, parrots and hummingbirds. Of the latter, my favorite is the broad bill. You will find several in my stream or on my website (more coming up soon too!) I love their amazing colors that shift in the light and their zippy personalities. Even the females carry a metallic green sheen.

I love the way this prints, with the metallic oil brush strokes clear even at small scale.

We went to shoot flowers at the arboretum at Woodward Park in Tulsa. This is a really nice facility. It has lots of pathways with shady trees native to the state to enjoy. There are also gardens with an abundance of flowers to view and shoot. I have never seen a green bee before and had to stop and try to capture it. These guys are really quick and I shot it six times before I got lucky with this one. My dad was wanting to go to the next garden so I didn't have time to get a better one. Thanks for viewing hope you enjoy it as much fun as I had shooting it.
