The paper used for these magnets has been up-cycled from a brochure that was created using recycled paper. The wild animals featured are: a jack rabbit, turtle, frog, red fox, porcupine and a sheep.
I just love that porcupine!

"The Amish still shock a lot of corn. Up in Holmes County (Ohio) last week saw several Amish farmers out in the field loading shocks of corn to feed the stock. It is also common to see big round bales of corn stalks that are put up as cattle feed. Halloween prank in that area is to set fire to a shock or two out in the field at night. As a kid we also cut corn while still very green and feed it to the cows, who would mob the wagon as we entered the pasture.

Mostly it was a storage thing. Corn up north did not dry down like it did down south and the shocks were put up to allow the corn to dry. After harvest and as corn was needed the shocks were hauled in and the ears picked off or the shock feed to the cattle. Guess it was a real joy to get shocks off the field after the shock sunk down in mud and then froze. Rats were a real joy too in the shocks."
Had an experience on an internet messageboard the other day, where I'd never felt quite so much like a fox cornered by dogs - a pack of men ganging up on the only woman, taunting, jibing, until it turned genuinely ugly. (Until finally someone stepped in like a knight in shining armour to call the pack off.) This is kind of how it felt. Maybe.
