Hozho
To greatly simplify a complex thing- The Navajo believe in Hozho.
Hozho is something like the happiness of being, the nirvhana that eastern religions talk of, But in traditional Navajo thinking - it saturates every moment of the existence of living right.
It is similar to the Eckhart Tolle kind of 'Be Here Now' sense of awareness without thought. The kind of thing that most people experience for just a few secondsof their lives on a mountaintop. It's why there are so many pictures of sunsets on Flickr - for in that awe inspiring overwhelming moment of nature - we become aware.
But that beauty and peace are everywhere to be found.
Beauty before me, I walk with.
Beauty behind me, I walk with.
Beauty above me, I walk with.
Beauty below me, I walk with.
Beauty all around me, I walk with.
Symbolic then, it was, to find this - a peace sign that had been hidden behind hundreds of postings. For isn't that the way it has been in all our lives.
