A Valentine's postcard that bears a real photograph and was printed in Great Britain.
The card was posted in Colchester on Sunday the 28th. August 1938 to:
Miss Ingoldby,
Flat 1,
Market Buildings,
Felpham,
Nr. Bognor Regis,
Sussex.
The message on the back of the card was as follows:
"Aldham Rectory
Colchester.
Aug 28th. 1938.
Just a line to let you know
that we are both all right.
Mother has been staying
with us for ten days, and
left us yesterday.
She has gone for a further
little change to Cleveden,
Somerset.
I don't know when we shall
be leaving here yet or where
we shall be going to afterwards
but will let you know as soon as
we know ourselves.
Much love from Joan".
So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?
Well, on the 28th. August 1938, Lord Runciman held a hastily arranged meeting with Sudeten German leader Konrad Henlein to discuss the Sudeten crisis.
I found this van parked on a side street in North Vancouver......."please don't kick your children". Think someone lives in it and may or may not be responsible for the grafitti.
I saw this wine bottle sitting on the beach, corked, WITHOUT a message inside. Such an oversight must be corrected, so I wrote a tearjerking message from a guy stranded on the Outer Hebrides and stuck it inside.
I saw someone start to pick it up, and took off... when I went back, it was gone. I couldn't stop grinning.
Nov 21 - "This time capsule to be held in trust and on public display until the year 3000. We invite the people of the fourth millennium to read our messages."
Getting messages from various people such as Mr Haig, Johnnie Walker and a Russian called Smirnoff, everything becomes slightly blurred for the Minister.
