Not quite a merman, but I like my legs too much :P Of course, this is a much more attractive version of me :P

Thanks Honeysuckle Jasmine for helping me procrastinate by showing us this game :P

Here’s my hand sculpted ball jointed mermaid Allan doll sculpted from polymer clay called living doll. What started out as an experiment in making clay molds of vintage dolls ended up in a very lengthy sculpting project in seeing if I can make a 1/6th scale merman with a jointed tail.

Lol my grasp on human anatomy is a bit awful, but I like to think for my first fully jointed BJD I did a pretty decent job. Doing this definitely helped me work out a lot of questions I had with sculpting a bjd from scratch including how to make a decent jointing system.

I won’t make this body available to purchase since if I did I would need to refine the heck out of this body before committing to have him cast and potentially deal with a lot of money which isnt something I can commit to yet.

I debated whether or not I should add extra paint detail to this tail but after my Galaxy Centaur custom, I realised too much paint detail would just make me handle this doll less lol.

I’m also really happy I got to do a sleeping face up since I’ve been wanting to do more but haven’t found the right doll to do so. I’ve also body blushed him but I guess it’s super subtle cuz photos don’t really showcase it.

Anyway, I know he’s not perfect but for my first bjd sculpt I’m pretty happy with him lol.

Going deep, swimming.

Emerging from the undersea city of Aquatica.

Beneath waters blue the merman swims on gleaming fins. The Ocean is his Kingdom & he it’s King.

Absolutely LOVE this doll, so handsome!! I have named him Adonis.

According to mythology, Nereus was ruler of the Aegean sea and Father to the 50 Nereids.

I haven't sewn in ages so for MerMay I decided to make this merman. He started as a Dumbledore from Harry Potter doll, his tail and sleeves are all hand sewn by me, I made the trident/sceptre using bits in my junk box, the crown is a repainted Barbie crown with added jewel.

You know what I'm somewhat tired of? The image of mermaids & mermen being all naturalistic and primitive, with their seashell bras and coral tridents and what have you.

Where's the cultural diversity? The sense of technological advancement and reckless imperialism? The MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX?

Granted, I'm sure this is far from an original idea, but I like my adaptation nonetheless.

So much for Frank's nice day fishing...some stupid magical merman had to come light his boat on fire.

I adore this glittering gold, I need no consoling by some jolly sailor bold..."

Happy Mermay!! (bit late but couldn't let the month pass with out honouring it in some way.)

Hand cast glow resin simulated mermen by Giant Japanese Monster, Bad!

its not finished. i have one more mermaid to add in but since i haven't added anything in a while here it is. i think this is my biggest photo manipulation as of yet. has lots and lots of layers. the tails were made out of actual fish. as for the stock i used, lost some of the links so i'll spend the next few days looking it up and adding it in.

^_^

wanted it to be part fantasy - part surreal - part dream.

There’s a hair trend called Merman hair where guys dye both their hair and beards in a range of pastel colours with different colours all blending together.

I’ve been wanting to try that so I did a test run on my other Batman head but I’m not really feeling it. Maybe I’ll like it more once I redress him

Seeing some of @whatifchris‘ repaints in the past week really made me want to put myself outside of my comfort zone and try doing a custom repaint I’ve been wanting to attempt for a long while but I’ve been kind of scared to attempt.

After I put my Batman head on the Steve Trevor/Wonder Woman legged hybrid, I figured this was a good enough base to try experimenting on.

This was modelled after the Merman dye job trend (read more about it here: www.boredpanda.com/merman-colorful-beard-hair-dye-men-trend/ ) and I really wanted that 80s Lisa Frank pastel kind of gradient ombre effect.

I feel like something is missing or off about his face so I might try blushing his face to add some depth to his vinyl before I commit to wiping him lol.

OK, I couldn't wait: here's Jason with his cool new body, I'm planning on crafting him a mermaid-tail though.

Snapped moments before the Lost Merman tried to rescue this little girl from the jaws of a giant, child-eating koi...

Our finned, flickr-friend was more than happy to let his flippers unfurl beneath the cool and refreshing waters of this splash park. Blissfully oblivious to the "footed beings" and their camera phones, who looked at him like an escapee from Sea World.

After the laughter subsided from his heroic, albeit misunderstood, rescue attempt, he wondered...

Will he ever find his lost colony, or will he keep feeling out of place? Truly, like a fish out of water.

Poor Lost Merman. (pass the tartar sauce)

i had a bit of time between assignments so i wandered to a pond i'd been to only once before and found some kids swimming, then they covered this boy in sand and pondweeds. mmm...

here, he peeked up at his father and friends for a moment.

his dad called him a merman.

As a child I was always facinated by Merpeople. One of my favourite childhood films is "The Little Mermaid" (along with "Mary Poppins" and "The Rescuers Down Under").

Merman

Me and my friend Denise took swimming lessons together and our parents took turns taking us to the swimming pool. Denise's mum/Aunt Leny called us "Zeemeermin" and "Zeemeerman" (Mermaid and Merman).

Aunt Leny always kept calling me "Zeemeerman" untill she died of cancer a few years ago.

About the photo

For this I used two photos. The original with me in it (obviously) and a photo of a fish for the tail. The ocean scenery is all photoshop.

Color Reveal Ken Merman. Found him using some tips from the net. Wanted him cause liked his face and all. Tho he's a complete log, doesn't even bend at the hips. Only head&shoulders are moving. But he's a very nice guy anyways. Mine is a tiny bit on the cross-eyed side, which is ok by me.

The only other downside (I guess it goes for the whole CR line) is the blue gunk seeps right inside the body and is extremely unwilling to leave. I was unable to wash it out completely, keeps dripping out. Be sure to put a napkin or something underneath when putting him on a surface you want to keep clean.
