This mer-detail of the 1539 tomb of Siro Anghinolfi, Provost of the Duomo of Parma caught my eye when I was there earlier this month.

Taken in Riverside Park South. Part of a show of sculpture created my members of the Art Students' League.

OK, I couldn't wait: here's Jason with his cool new body, I'm planning on crafting him a mermaid-tail though.

His eyes look very Disney somehow. I like the color but not the shape... well, he's up to a face-up, soon!

Here’s my hand sculpted ball jointed mermaid Allan doll sculpted from polymer clay called living doll. What started out as an experiment in making clay molds of vintage dolls ended up in a very lengthy sculpting project in seeing if I can make a 1/6th scale merman with a jointed tail.

Lol my grasp on human anatomy is a bit awful, but I like to think for my first fully jointed BJD I did a pretty decent job. Doing this definitely helped me work out a lot of questions I had with sculpting a bjd from scratch including how to make a decent jointing system.

I won’t make this body available to purchase since if I did I would need to refine the heck out of this body before committing to have him cast and potentially deal with a lot of money which isnt something I can commit to yet.

I debated whether or not I should add extra paint detail to this tail but after my Galaxy Centaur custom, I realised too much paint detail would just make me handle this doll less lol.

I’m also really happy I got to do a sleeping face up since I’ve been wanting to do more but haven’t found the right doll to do so. I’ve also body blushed him but I guess it’s super subtle cuz photos don’t really showcase it.

Anyway, I know he’s not perfect but for my first bjd sculpt I’m pretty happy with him lol.

Quadrapop Tree at Fracture.

His limbs were failing him, his beautiful eyes were closed, and he would have died had not the little merman come to his assistance. he held his head above the water, and let the waves drift them where they would... the sun rose out of the waters, red and bright, and its beams seemed to bring the glow of life back to the cheeks of the prince, but his eyes remained closed. The merman kissed his high and shapely forehead...it seemed to him that he looked like that marble statue in his little garden. he kissed him again and hoped that he would live

got this idea from My Froggy Stuff and i cant wait to start on another!!

Day 14 of #AllanAugust, with Morgan, my merman doll. He was actually a result of me trying to use polymer clay to try using push molds to copy Allan’s sculpt, then I basically sculpted an entire ball jointed body for this head.

I know it’s not a perfect sculpt but I learnt a LOT with working with polymer clay, and how to approach sculpting a doll from scratch if I ever do it again. The most basic tip I can give is that it’s far easier sculpting a full body part THEN adding in joints rather than trying to sculpt pieces with joints in them at first.

His chair is from the one time I went to Queensland and found this souvenir store selling it lol.
