Things to be annoyed by*:
1. Whimsical eyes in the "Look"s
2. Double exclamation marks which are
3. in the middle of a sentence which, although in question form, ends with a full stop (it's a surprise to see even that, though).
4. No apostrophe in "ploughmans" making it appear they can serve you up a ploughman on a plate and don't know that the the plural is "ploughmen". They mean, of course "ploughman's lunches". I'm happy with them shortening "ploughman's lunch" to "ploughman", but in that case they really should have written "ploughman'ses". Which is weird.
5. The apostrophe which went missing has turned up in "breakfast's". I thought it might be a scratch in the board (there are a couple, I notice) but high zoom showed it to be chalked in.
6. There's no apostrophe in "potatoes" or "salads" so why the inconsistency?
Other points of note:
There isn't one in thanks either, but who ever had of a single thank? Although, if there are many as stated, should it be thankses?

This is one of the two sides of the Take out menu I designed for Co Do Vietnamese restaurant where I'm working right now. The theme and color of the menu is to match the new decoration style of the restaurant, being elegant, and share many similarity with the new main menu I designed a few months ago.
It's a classic case of rubbish translation. But the story of how it ended up so bad is quite interesting:
The menu is in a Japanese restaurant in Spain, run by Chinese who spoke only Andalucian Spanish. The whole menu is a bizarre hybrid of Chinese translated through dialect Spanish into English. It's a linguist's dream.
But most interesting of all are dishes no. 53 and 54. They're meant to be offering 'costilla' which in English is 'rib'. However...
In Andalucian, the 's' in the middle of a word is often not pronounced. The Chinese, having learnt only the local Andalucian dialect by word of mouth, only heard the word 'cotilla', not 'costilla' . They then looked up 'cotilla' in Google. The problem is that 'cotilla' translates into English as 'gossip'. Not speaking any English, the Andalucian Chinese thought they had the right word and sent it off to the Spanish printers.
The Spanish printers, on seeing the menu written by the Andalucian Chinese, then corrected the Spanish 'cotilla' to 'costilla' (whilst probably sniggering to themselves). But they too didn't speak any English, and went ahead and printed a menu offering English speakers assorted varieties of cooked 'gossip'.
Chinese whispers in action?
For once duck is not on the menu. This sign appeals to the passersby of the pond at my neighbouring horticultural college to do the right thing and feed the birds correctly.

I created this small version of a menu in the style used at the old Tee Pee Restaurants in Indianapolis, Indiana in the 60s. The menu never existed the way you see it here, but I used authentic art to create this "mock-up," and it was used at some local auto shows on "car trays" used by car hops. Note that this may NOT be printed or used in any way without my permission!
NOTE: I'm looking for photos of the Southside Indianapolis TeePee once located on south US 31 near Manual High School! Please contact me if you have any photos!
