Three days after the massive Golden Spike Sesquicentenial celebration at the Golden Spike National Historic Site in Promontory Utah workers are taking down all of the temporary infrastructure. The tie commemorating the location of the Golden Spike is on the track near the center of the image -- the slightly smaller, very smooth and finighed railroad tie.

Construction work is going on busily even though the setting sun spreads his golden rays signaling it is time to go home. Unlike the sun, men have their hectic schedule and long hours of work. This is an everyday scene I see here but this day the ball of flame made a beautiful silhouette scene.

I borrowed my husband's Sony DSC-HX50V and took this shot from my terrace.

The Hydro workers are replacing a pole. I must agree with Cindy below, the poles do look like they aren't in great shape!

You will find them below the bridge that goes over the railroad track in Clifton. They are turning mud into adobe bricks the high tech way. It involves dirt, water, a couple of other ingredients, some specialized machinery, the right weather, and a whole lot of hard work.*

Maybe because I grew up nearby a large industrial area ... or maybe because I have had several jobs in the harbour or on a business or industrial site, but I love to roam in such areas.

Sometimes it seems to be so silent like nothing much is happening .. occasionally a car or truck, otherwise you see little.

But knowing that inside all these halls, sheds and offices is so much activity going on, even though it's hardly visible from the outside; that makes it an exciting area to me.

So yesterday I walked on such a terrain in our town. I went through the gate of this big tire company.

The tires itself were also large, sometimes just as big as me.

I thought it was beautiful.

The boy on that cart found out, sooner than me, that the gate had already been closed and had to 'free' me.

Or had to chase me away

Capturing Henrietta Street for posterity

Construction workers have always fascinated me. Working in all kinds of weather and at heights that make me sick just to think of how high. The geometric lines and shapes really lend themselves to a papercut and I hope that this will be an ongoing series of papercuts of Men at work.

In 1955, the specialized machines were scarce. Here, the old road is removed with a long crowbar, wielded by five men!
