Laugh if you want... but I could live here very easily.. :-) Alaska is my kind of country..

The series continues my friends.. :-)

Doña Petra at Women's March, Fresno, CA., USA January 21, 9018

Sexual harassment is bad enough. But the power and control behind it make it an ongoing nightmare. Even after it's over, it's easy to blame ourselves—a mix of anger and self-doubt. Victims (and, yes, they are victims of predatory behavior) fear retaliation and, even more important, that no one will believe them. This is the silence that has protected abusers for decades.

With revelations of Kevin Spacey's and Harvey Weinstein's serial abuse, the dam suddenly has given way. There is a new scarlet letter adorning the likes of Charlie Rose, Al Franken, Matt Lauer, ad nauseum. But, why now? To that we owe a debt of "gratitude" to Donald Trump. His unabashed misogyny, coupled with the blindness of his followers to his morality has unleashed a force, a strong feminist force in our culture. Millions of women and men around the world protested his behavior the day after Trump's inauguration. From that moment, women empowered with a shared experience (both the reality of sexual abuse as well as the gathering of like minds) vowed to take control of their lives. In addition, many men, not only supported them but took a stand against the patriarchy—the "good ole boy's club"—that has affected all of us. The swiftness of these changes is both empowering and scary.

Groups formed to encourage women to speak out and to take power. Pantsuit Nation is full of testimonies by women who decided to run for office in their towns and cities. And, this fall, they won big. The backlash against men like Trump is intensifying. Finally, our Congress has been outed in the most profound way. In 1995, it enacted the Congressional Accountability Act (CAA). The law's impetus was to make members of Congress accountable to the very labor laws they passed (and had exempted themselves from). In addition, it addressed sexual harassment by legislators and staff. Until the CAA, there was absolutely no path for victims to seek redress.

But, while the CAA offers the abused a way forward, the process is long and forces accusers to attend 30 days of counseling before moving to mediation. There is no counseling for the alleged perpetrator. And, most astounding, if a Congressman or staff is found guilty, settlements for that abuse are paid by taxpayers, not the abusers, whose identity is not made public. Over the past 20 years, the Office of Compliance has paid out over $17.2 million of taxpayers' money to settle 268 claims.

One of the most hidden problems in American culture has finally reached the tipping point. For that, I thank thousands of women who found the courage and the fortitude to speak out, support others, seek political office, and, most importantly, take back control of their lives. Yet, a recent Politico poll shows that partisanship is still a deciding factor whether the public finds sexual harassment claims credible. While Democrats are more likely to believe these claims, whether the accused is a Democrat or Republican, Republicans are less like to believe them if they are leveled at a member of the GOP. This isn't over yet.

It's time for the rest of us to take responsibility for the fear and manipulation men have used to control others. It's time to keep our hands to ourselves!

"A Dark Spring"

Why did you choose that name for your gown?

I have baptized my dress as "A Dark Spring" because we are just in this beautiful season of the year, I did not conceive a more appropriate name. I love spring and I love its flowers. Which fill my version of this beautiful dress. And the dark thing is clear that it is in protest because I am one more #MeToo

What was your inspiration?

Thinking about the red carpet and that I must express my feelings in some way ... and with the resources of the MVD box, the first thing that made me open my eyes wide was the flowers.

So look for a long evening dress where the flowers were the protagonist.

And there was Angy's perfect dress, The Bound Gown Crow.

I have added a double skirt to which I have hand embroidered all the beautiful roses.

Roses in my hair.

Roses in my bracelets.

How not to call this dress "A Dark Spring"?

In the “Memento” section of “What Absence Is Made Of,” the framed black-and-white portraits of eight smiling children from a 1939 Parisian Purim class are surrounded by bare lightbulbs and trailing wires in “Monument” (1989) by French artist Christian Boltanski.

The fate of these Jewish children during World War II and the Holocaust are unknown, creating some uncertainty about any sense of loss.

www.washingtoncitypaper.com/arts/museums-galleries/blog/2...

Gianni Jetzer, the curator for What Absence Is Made Of, assembled several familiar works from the collection, including Christian Boltanski’s haunting “Monument” (1989), which memorializes the Holocaust without naming the victims in the photographs he uses.

While scanning old vintage 1940's era Life Magazines for advertisements, I came across this "article" that for some reason just seemed to reinforce how far morals have changed over the last 80 years.

I especially like the caption on the top left photo - "...an' I said, who do you think you are... a casting director?"

Yikes! What were once virtues are now vices, indeed.

Here is the text of the article in case you have difficulty reading the photo:

"Out of self protection, if for no other reason, Hollywood usually takes itself very seriously. But every once in a while, when it thinks nobody is looking, the citadel of the cinema relaxes and has a fine time kidding the pants off itself.

"Such a time came recently when the Warner Club had its annual dinner dance at the Biltmore Bowl in hollywood, for almost all the people who work in the Warner Bros. studio. For one evening, everybody from script girls to the Messrs. Warner were one big happy family, engaged in the pleasant family practice of making fun of themselves. Keynote of the evening, which included acts by stars, was the printed program, subtitled 'Snickers on the Flickers', whole sections of which are reproduced here.

"Like Hollywood, the program makes the most of Sex. The beautiful face of the Little Theatre Discovery below is never once revealed, although most of the rest of her is extravagantly shown. Studio cuties strip down to dishabille to pose for joke pictures. Important difference between It, Glamor, Oomph and S.

A are defined. Another feature of the program is a review of the "Picture of the Month", which tells the story of Curly Schmaltz (Paul Muni) who sets out to seek his long-lost sister, Libido Schmaltz. After traveling all over the world in many disguises and encountering many adventures, Curly finally winds up in Paris where he forgets all about Libido and stops looking for her."

Here's a sneak preview of the latest fashion trend touted to be stylishly chic, incredibly employable, and absolutely essential for a woman who has her sights set on being hired for a high level, "policy setting position" in today's ultra competitive Capitol Hill job market. Notice that being nude or nearly so is highly advisable if interviewing for GOP Senate and House aide positions with male legislators. It epitomizes the real meaning of "governmental transparency" in the current White House.

A woman holds up her middle finger while displaying a protest sign during the woman's march in Denver.

i am not lost. well i am sometimes. we all are, aren't we?

anyway...

i have to write about LOST for a minute. i think it is the best television show i have ever watched. every. single. episode. grips me. some make me cry. it just makes me go oh my god! every time with my hand on my chest.

it is crazy good. the people. the insane story line. the music. the scenery. but most of all the stories of people's lives. and loves. and heartaches. and mistakes. and successes. and on and on.

i just had to say it. i love it. i will get a room with LOST and make love to it all night long.

and yes - it is weird that i took this pic moments after a crazy scene (desmond talking with penelope in 2004) that made me cry but i had my camera next to me because i was taking pics of the desert anna made. so yeah. i know it's weird that i snapped a pic, but i wanted to show you all how this show makes me FEEL.

it evokes my emotions like no other show has.

so watch this video and if you haven't seen it, go put it in your queue before i kick your ass. k?

best. show. ever.

Apparently not all my personalities want to be so damn cool as I inevitably am. And modest; yeah I am also known for my modesty...

it's almost friday, bitchez. drink up!

Barbara Kruger was particularly adept at lifting the language of advertising, having started her career as a graphic designer for Condé Nast, and going on to develop a signature fine art style that served as anti-advertising. In her works, bolded copy atop surreal black and white photos broadcasts grim anti-establishment slogans, such as “You rule by pathetic display” stamped over an image of a knife being rinsed in a glistening jet of water in her “Untitled (You Rule By Pathetic Display).” Kruger is one of the marquee names in this exhibit, and as such her works that co-opt advertising have in turn been co-opted for the signs and materials advertising Brand New.

Christian Boltanski’s “Monument” marks the destiny of Jewish children during World War II by mounting their portraits on metallic boxes illuminated by naked bulbs, an installation that is simultaneously serene and morbid, while the large floor sculpture “Abbottabad” by Ping revisits the compound where Osama bin Laden hid for years before he was discovered and eventually killed.

www.studiointernational.com/index.php/what-absence-is-mad...

The cultural, social and political influences behind the pieces at the Hirshhorn are fascinatingly varied; in Abbottabad (2013), Ping has recreated the compound – a large floor sculpture made from ceramics, soil and plants – where Osama bin Laden hid for years before he was discovered and killed.

Today was the huge Processions march, happening in Edinburgh, London, Cardiff and Belfast, marking a century since Parliament, after decades of campaigning and protesting, finally allowed (some) women to have the vote for the first time in the UK.

Today we probably mostly think of Suffragettes as fighting (sometimes literally) for equal rights for the voting franchise, but the movement also took in a wide spectrum of social problems from poverty to worker's rights and unions, childcare, healthcare access, all things we are still, infuriatingly, having to keep fighting for today, which, along with recent global movements like #MeToo, Weinstein and more means this isn't the past, it is, like most history, still living and relevant to today.

Huge turnout for the Edinburgh march gathering in the Meadows before marching through town towards Parliament. There were silver-haired older ladies, young women and even wee girl guides. I hope the latter get to grow up in a more equal future.

Torgau, Germany: inner view of a spiral stair in castle Hartenfels

... to show that I support the #MeToo movement.

In our own way, we girls are harassed, just as CIS women are, by unwanted cat calls, wolf whistles, sexual innuendo and propositions.

I really appreciate having a cook. She knows that.

i love when you can see the moon in the day time

The admission by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam that he, along with the state's Attorney General, Mark Herring, had dressed in blackface in the 1980s, has unearthed the recent history of the practice. Many are shocked; some are not surprised.

Along with the #MeToo movement, we are confronted with serious and hard-to-answer questions. Is any questionable behavior in one's past cause for vilification? Or is it important to see how that person has changed? Is redemption possible in the public sphere? Does it matter if one is in the limelight as a politician, actor, or movie mogul? Do we take into account the culture of the times as we might when looking at the life of, say, Thomas Jefferson? His writings are a foundation for our country, yet he was a slave owner and even had a child by one of his slaves. Context may be everything or not.

The revelations of these Virginia legislators hit us hard and fast. Not surprising in this 24/7 news cycle. The preponderance of blackface photos in college yearbooks and the exhuming of this shallowly buried racial past has only deepened our concerns. What do we do with these facts? How do we respond?

Three recent Washington Post op-eds give us possible paths. Yes, politicians wore blackface. It used to be all-American ‘fun.’ by Rhae Lynn Barnes, assistant professor of American cultural history at Princeton University, How Ralph Northam and others can repent of America’s original sin by Reverend William J. Barber II, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, and from former Congresswoman Donna Edwards: I’m from the same generation as Northam and Herring. Their behavior is mind-boggling.

What I do know is that talking about it, looking at it, and listening to others is the only way through this. Otherwise, our ignorance isn't just ignorance, it's willful ignorance.

One thing that bugs me since I do this mirror series. Whenever you stare in the mirror you see your reflection staring at you. How do I know, that my reflection is not always staring at me? As soon as I want to find out I turn to the mirror and there he is again/still staring. A problem with the term "observation". Same thing as with the light in the refridgerator: Is it really off when the door is closed?

A really weird theoretic chemist called Schroedinger (totally ona drugs all the time if you ask me) once had a similar theory that a cat in a closed box that is poisioned with toxic gas is neither dead nor alive. It is in a in between state. But this state can not be observed, because as soon as he opens the box and takes a look, the cat is dead.

OK, now I completely lost the point...

Whatever, as long as my reflection is only staring at me...
