Barnes & Noble has a “Women’s Interest” section, but they removed the “Men’s Interest” header, so you can now find Playboy® and similar magazines in the “Technology” section!
Isn’t putting men’s magazines under Technology actually less politically correct than having a Men’s Interest section? Are women not capable of understanding technology? Or do the men buy the magazines to mansplain technology to their wives and girlfriends?...
Schmocus isn't for everyone, I know, but I like the new perspective it can give on cliched subjects - like the London Eye.
There is a great article by 'russell a' on The Luminous Landscape website about The 101 Cliches of Photography that concludes thus: "The trick is to use this as inspiration to find a way to differentiate the opportunity at hand from the photos that have preceeded us. Take the potential crush of history and squeeze something new out of the mix".
Here's his list of photographic cliches - I think I have ten of them in my Flickr portfolio and if I knew how to use Photoshop rather than the simple Lightroom then it would be eleven!
- Sunsets/Sunrises (depends on your sleeping habits I suppose) Can't we declare a moratorium?
- Babies - pretty babies, ugly babies, babies whose facial expressions seem "grown up"
- Animals - especially baby animals - puppies and kittens and other furry creature in particular, but all young offspring, including those whose facial expressions
echo human expressions, this goes double for animals with big eyes, ears, noses, or tongues
- Bees on flowers taken with macro lenses, double penalty points for a misplaced shallow depth of field
- Autumn Leaves - on trees of course, but double penalty for leaves floating in a stream or lake
- Rocks in Sand - with or without water wetting part of the scene or curling around the stones, extra penalty for wisps of seaweed
- Reeds in a lake silhouetted against the light of the rising or setting sun
- Geometric vistas formed by the patterns of contour farming
- White fences - throw in gates, porticos, doorways, arched entrances
- Over-saturated photos - this can be a way to double up on a cliched subject
- The application of any "artistic" filter effect from Photoshop, ditto above on the doubling up
- Weather-beaten barn boards, double penalty for faded red paint
- On the street - the homeless, beggars, double penalty for the blind or crippled, triple penalty for the foregoing if holding a musical instrument
- Any photo where the subject seems to be the existence of repeated colors within the frame, double penality if the color is red
- Vistas of mountaintops fading into the distance, double penalty when combined with a sunset or sunrise
- Deer in meadows
- Graveyards - double penalty for fog
- Blackened skies in daylight photos - have you noticed that in night photos the sky is seldom the blackest part?
- Any photo that can be described by invoking the name of a historic photographer (Ansel Adams, Minor White, Diane Arbus - including some of their own.)

For me, art is something that confronts or challenges.
It’s not simply decorative in nature, but has something more to say. This something can be philosophical, political, cultural - anything that transforms the work at hand into something beyond an object or a complement to the décor.
This is not to say art cannot be beautiful and admired purely for its aesthetic appeal. But rather, the art ‘I’ like moves me to think or feel on another level. It’s entirely a subjective experience and doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else.
Art 'is' literally in the eye of the beholder.

The 2018, Golden Globes red carpet celebrity, Caitriona Balfe, Inspired my showstopping Milano gown. My inspiration for my gown's name came from the beautiful actress, Alyssa Milano. Alyssa Milano,went above and beyond to encourage others to spread the hashtag #MeToo, as part of the awareness campaign in order to reveal the ubiquity of sexual abuse and harassment.

A battered young maid with black swollen eyes, and habitually beaten up, is quite common in Bangladesh. The torture of domestic help - specifically minor girls- is too frequent an occurrence in this country for any such incident to warrant surprise.
According to 2006 baseline survey by the ILO, there were about 420,000 child domestic workers in Bangladesh whose 'employment' usually borders on indentured servitude. Given that the survey was conducted over a decade ago, today's numbers may well be much higher. The vast majority of domestic workers are minor girls, who are directly sent from their villages to urban areas—completely alien to them—by poverty-stricken parents who perhaps leap at the opportunity of turning an economic burden to a source of income. Their vulnerability only emboldens employers who engage in sadistic acts.
In the period between 2008 to 2011, there were 2,709 reported incidents involving violence against domestic workers, 729 of which led to the death of the domestic workers. The severity of torture ranges from inhuman working hours with no rest to constant beatings - such as hitting the head against the wall, scorching raw sking with lit cigarettes and hot metal objects, while some are even raped, as a result of which many commit suicide. Some abuses are also of mental nature - from non-payment of wages to incessant verbal abuse and infliction of trauma.
The torture of domestic help is an extreme manifestation of this society's wider class problem, which is rooted in the landowning class's false yet deeply entrenched sense of superiority over the working class people. Domestic workers are dehumanized on the basis of their socioeconomic standing. Everyday classist macroaggressions that are rooted in the same strand of dehumanization pave the way for such extreme barbarities.
Even though I have completely changed the colors, the surreal composition and the unmistakable, threatening control this man had over his wife's well being is terrifying. I couldn't help but think of the MeToo testimony we have heard so much about this year. "Same as it ever was."
Camila Cabello can sing (quite well). And she is undoubtedly attractive. If I said she is sexy, I'd get in trouble with the political-correctness brigade and feminists :( Yet - is the Guess brand exploiting her sexiness? Are brands exploiting talent, tricking them to sell sex in order to sell albums?.. Or is it just about changing times and shifting boundaries, what was taboo two generations ago is the fully acceptable norm today? And tomorrow??

This my story. I, Karen Trice (AKA Susietea), am a survivor of domestic violence! I was married to a man that verbally and physically abused me for twelve years. In the year 2012, I was stabbed and had my head split open in three places while sleeping, waking in horror and confusion, blood everywhere. I looked like something out of a horror movie once I got a glimpse of my reflection while stumbling around, being chased all over the house. I was thrown outside and left to die... I survived.
