The assignment: Study the way light is used in classical paintings.
Hundreds of artists have painted their version of the Biblical story of Judith Beheading Holofernes to create an ongoing series of updated representations. In this story of power and rage, I have replaced the historical General with the modern/cliche white man wearing a soulless business suit. The women are in Renaissance clothing to channel the generational Judiths who have fought against misogyny. The man is intentionally left blurred and unfinished to represent a man from any time.

UMass students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends filled the Old Chapel to hear Jackson Katz '82 (EdM, Harvard; PhD, UCLA), a global thought leader on issues of masculinities, race, and violence, provide insights about men’s engagement with the #MeToo movement. Katz engaged the crowd through his thought-provoking talk that shared ideas for challenging sexism on the individual and institutional levels, and strategies for becoming an active and effective ally.
