"A striking black-and-white bird with very long, thin red legs, the Black-necked Stilt is found along the edges of shallow water in open country.
Five species of rather similar-looking stilts are recognized in the genus Himantopus. They have the second-longest legs in proportion to their bodies of any bird, exceeded only by flamingos." -allaboutbirds.org

McCracken Co. Judge Executive, Van Newberry explained to the crowd, some taxes are for good. He named the local library, seen in the background, as one of those for the "good".
2004 -- this is my least favorite piece of art at the Portland Art Museum (on loan, not part of the permanent collection, but it's been displayed for years, hasn't moved). I've finally taken a picture of it because I want to cross-reference it with a picture taken last week in Minneapolis at the Walker Art Center, a piece of plywood painted black and leaning against the wall, about as inspired as this piece.

McCrackens Rest is a lookout and rest area on the Southern Scenic Route overlooking Te Wae Wae Bay. Perched on the edge of the cliff you can enjoy commanding views out to sea, right across the bay to the hump ridge and mountains beyond.
One of those places everyone must pause their journey to take a moment to take in the views, and of course to take that classic travellers' photo in front of the sign.
