And what, pray tell, is John McCracken doing here? Other than standing in for the entire Minimalist formalist tradition with a finish that reflects /rebuffs the visitor with its super-polished surface?

"North America's largest shorebird, the Long-billed Curlew breeds in the grasslands of the Great Plains and Great Basin.
Both the male and female Long-billed Curlew incubate the eggs, and both are aggressive in defense of nests and young. The female typically abandons the brood two to three weeks after hatching and leaves brood care to her mate. Despite this abandonment the same male and female often pair with each other again the next year.
Although the Long-billed Curlew's diet includes many species of invertebrates and some vertebrates, its bill is best adapted for capturing shrimp and crabs living in deep burrows on tidal mudflats (its wintering grounds) or burrowing earthworms in pastures. " -allaboutbirds.org

Why do the do that?
Some say they do it for fun...just like humans go surfing.
Besides, they're very playful creatures. They even seem to be smiling. :)
Others say:
They treat boats as whales. They like to ride the wake of the whales. Doing so saves them energy. They can swim faster with less effort than if they swim on their own. For a long time scientists were puzzled by the dolphins' behavior since boats and ships are recent inventions. Then they discovered dolphins swiming just in front of whales. Since the baleen whales only feed on plankton or small fish, they are no danger to the dolphins. You won't see dolphins riding the wake of orcas, or killer whales. :)

After getting on a train at 5am and being on it for around 5hours, then meeting up with my best friend who I haven't seen in over a year we walked to Queen Street Brisbane, and not long after getting there we seen our favourite band just walking around.
I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I spotted them, words wouldn't form I just had to grab and squeeze her arm. They were so lovely and we both got photos with them.
Simply the most amazing moment of my life.

"This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish ignored by larger waders." -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roseate_Spoonbill
