"A striking bird of the central United States, the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is nearly unmistakable with its long forked tail and salmon-pink belly. The state bird of Oklahoma, it is commonly found in only a handful of other states." allaboutbirds.org

The Horton-McCracken house in Huntsville, as photographed in 1934 by W.N. Manning for the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). This antebellum home was demolished in 1949, to be replaced by a subdivision of modest houses, which are now suffering from neglect. (See next pic in my photostream.)

“It was not until 1839 that Horton acquired the 160 acres on which he constructed his new homeplace, the Horton house. This land was on the west side of the Meridianville Pike (now Meridian Street), north of the Sparkman Drive overpass. ... The Horton-McCracken house was demolished in 1949 and the land subdivided into lots for a new residential development called Colonial Hills.”

It looks rather like it could have been taken in the tropics - don't you think? ;-)

I really like the leaves of the Chinese Pistache tree.....

Okay, here ya go...the last shot of an Oriole for a while...without any fruit or man-made perches in the shot. A larger challenge seems to have been presented. We've had some new visitors to our feeders...Rose-breasted Grosbeaks - and are they ever nervous! I just hope they stick around a while and give me a fair chance. ;-)

"North America's largest shorebird, the Long-billed Curlew breeds in the grasslands of the Great Plains and Great Basin.

Long-billed Curlews spend summers in areas of western North America with sparse, short grasses, including shortgrass and mixed-grass prairies as well as agricultural fields. After their young leave the nest they may move to areas with taller, denser grasses. In winter they migrate to the coasts and to interior Mexico, where you can find them in wetlands, tidal estuaries, mudflats, flooded fields, and occasionally beaches." -allaboutbirds.org

Winter Storm Watch?!? Such an insult to Spring. ;-)

* Main impact: Heavy snow reducing visibility and accumulating. Snowfall over 4 inches is likely in many areas. Local amounts over 8 inches are forecast in north central Oklahoma. It is also possible that the area of heaviest snow will expand toward central Oklahoma.

* Other impacts: Wind gusts over 45 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow. Blizzard conditions may exist at times...
