425 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, BC.

It was constructed in 1919 and used as a repair shop and warehouse serving the industrial uses in the area. The building is a good example of an Edwardian brick industrial warehouse of that era and is part of a collection of early 20th century industrial buildings, including the “Best Building” at 1920 Wylie Street, the nearby warehouse at 365 West 2nd Avenue and the “Nye Building” on the south side of 2nd Avenue. Given the changes in the area, the Maynard’s Building is now one of very few remaining heritage buildings on the former industrial lands. The remainder of the site is currently developed with three buildings and surface parking, all of which will be removed to make way for the proposed development.

My intent was to capture this giraffe in an up close image with a shallow depth of field for black and white because his body had good values for b&w due to the off shades of his spots vs. his tan colored hair then his very dark eyes.
