During the 1920s, many of the townhouses in Malaysia were build by wealthy Straits Chinese. Townhouses during this period were know to be of the Late Straits Eclectic Style. This style is most spectacular in the use of ornamentation and the tripartite arrangement of window on the façade to provide maximum ventilation and natural lighting. Furthermore, the facade incorporated several design from various sources such as Chinese and European ones. Moreover, the porch entrance is paved with tessellated floor tiles, and covered with decorative tiled dado. A swallow-tail ridge design was used on the jack roof. In the pass, this design could only be affortable by the wealthy.

A flock of birds cross the eclipsed Sun during the maximum phase along the shore of Cape Cod National Seashore. Low clouds briefly obscured the views at time but it made for some very interesting pictures. It was a great way to end my 6 day night sky and eclipse workshop and I am looking forward to my next eclipse adventure.

This is a 68 shot panorama of the Milky Way and comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) as they both set above Sugarloaf Rock, 3 hours south of Perth in Western Australia. Venus can be seen shining very brightly just to the right of Rho Ophiuchi, enveloped by the Zodiachal Light. The red parts of the sky are hydrogen alpha emitting regions, captured with a filter that isolates that part of the spectrum, the most prominent of which is to the right around Cygnus.

Airglow was also quite strong, thanks to the fact we are at solar maximum which not only produces more active aurora but also airglow. The cloud on the horizon quickly caught up to us and put an early end to the night, but not before we did what we drove 2.5 hours to do, thankfully.

The iCDAS 09 is a oil/chemical tanker and sails under the flag of Malta. She was built in 2010 with a gross weight of 13097 Tons. Her length is 149.95 meters and a beam of 23 meters and a draught of 6.7 meters. The ships maximum speed is 11.2 knots and an average speed of 8.7 knots. I am posting this picture on Nov 13/2017 and the iCDAS 09 is today docked in the port of Venice.

In September 2019 Go-Coach purchased three ex-London United Optare Tempos these being, YJ11 EHN, YJ11 EHR and YJ11 EHX and were numbered 7801, 7802 and 7803 in the fleet. They are almost exclusively used on high capacity school routes which can only accomodate single deck vehicles.

A unique opportunity presented us on Saturday 19th September 2020 when all three Optare Tempo's were at Otford so a lineup was arranged this being the first time since they were repainted that all three have been together! So from the left we have 7801 YJ11 EHN, 7802 YJ11 EHR and 7803 YJ11 EHX at Otford Vestry Road.

Johannesburg witnessed a partial solar eclipse at 11.00am. An irresistible photographic opportunity. An admittedly pretentious attempt to capture the moment in a 'Miro-esque' fashion! Taken with a Fujifilm XT-1 @ f22. Mechanical shutter speed 1/4000 sec. Lens: Fujinon XF 100-400 mm @400mm ( full frame equivalent 600mm). Kenko variable ND 3-400 filter at full block-out. Post processing: Samsung Studio plus Snapseed plus Lightroom..

During our workshop in Joshua Tree, we were told about a wash filled with desert flowers. Kevin McNeal, Steve Sieren and I decided to check it out one evening. Now you have to understand, Kevin is from the Pacific Northwest, and so he was understandably excited at the possibility of capturing the Joshua Tree National Park in bloom.

What greeted us was a patchy field of flowers, so delicate that the slightest whisper of air moved the petals and a hazy Southern California sky. Watching Kevin hunt around for a composition, was a wonderful learning experience...or more aptly a one man stand-up comedy act. By positioning my camera, low to the ground , angling it to find the maximum group of plants in one spot, waiting for a break in the wind, and a few other tricks along the way, I managed to capture the moment.

I can’t say enough about what I learned from Kevin at the Mountain High Joshua Tree Workshop. If you have time, they are hosting another workshop in the Tetons and Yellowstone, May 30th-June 5th. at www.mountainhighworkshops.com.

Also check out Kevin’s new site www.photocascadia.com.

The Dune Evening Primrose are lovely to capture during the sunset as they open in the early evening and close in mid-morning, making the desert appear as if it is covered with tissue paper.

" The Long View on the Rising Ground [ 2] "

This is the 2nd version of this photo that I have put up here. However, I am not putting this up to promote my photos or look for comments or faves. I already have a version of this photo on here [2nd last photo back] that is not in any groups and I am more than happy with it, thanks. I am putting this up to show people on here how to work around the 30/60 group maximum rule that Flickr introduced over a month ago!

People who have PRO status on here can only now put there photos in 60 groups and those with non Pro status in only 30 groups. This is not enough for many of us!

However, there is a way around it in which we can put each of our photos in hundreds of groups or as many as you like by following these instructions and not breaking any rules.

There are lots of administrators of groups on here who do not want to accept Flickrs ruling as it is affecting their viewing figures so they have decided to allow us to add as many photos as we want to their groups,

but you must do this in the correct order or Flickr will block you when you have added only 60/30 photos maximum!

From tomorrow morning, Tuesday [9/1/2017] I will start adding this photo to groups and will by the end of the week, Friday,[ 12/1/2017 ] have this photo in over 100 groups.

If you drop by between tomorrow and next thurday I will have put the instructions on how to do the first stage, and then on Friday I will put up on ,how to do the 2nd/3rd final stage.

I know that lots of people dont understand how to do this as English is not there first language so please, if you are there friends and can translate for them, please do. Flickr translate is worse than useless!!! Others dont understand how to do this this because of the complications of modern technology { Im one of those who struggle with modern stuff too!} so this is why Im doing it step by step to help people understand. Its easy once you do it the first time!

Please do join the "OPT OUT GROUP"

[www.flickr.com/groups/2982691@N21/ ] where my good frends, i LOVE NatureiLOVEnature's Photography Inspiration and SaffyH SaffyH have compiled a list of the groups that have opted out of the 30/60 maximum rule and you can use as many of these groups as you like but only when stage one is complete!!!!!!! Thank you to them for explaining to me how to do his! They will also help you in any way they can including assisting administrators who wish to opt their groups out of the 30/60 restrictions!

Hopefully I will catch you here between tomorrow and Thursday and if you have any queries do message me as I will be more than pleased to help you if I can!

TUESDAY 9/1/2018

Hi all! I said Id come back this morning and start adding this photo to opt in grops { groups that have stayed with the 30/60 maximum ruling! }

I am adding the photo to 30 of these froups today and I will add it to a further 30 [total 60} on friday}

I could add it to 60 now in one hit but it is better to do it in 2 or more sections. The reason for this is as follows;

When you put up say one of your phoos and add it to one group, it immediatly goes on the first page of the group site and can be seen by all who visit that group. However as the day progresses, more people will add their photos to the group and your photo will go onto the 2nd, 3rd or 4th page etc and will disappear from public view as most people only look at the first webpage on a group site! By splitting the sixty groups into smaller sections of say 30+30 or 15 +15+15 +15 or whatever way you want to do it, your photo is getting more exposure to the public view. You could of course if you have lots of time, put your photo into 60 opt in groups today, remove it from these groups tomorrow and then add it to 60 new opt in groups. Its your choice.Just do remember that 60 is the total maximum you can leave up!!

Im now adding my photo to my 30 groups.

I will drop back on Friday next to complete step one and do step 2 [opt out groups }and step 3 if any!

By the way, to find out if a group is opt in or opt out, open the groups main page. Scroll down to the bottom and its written in the first paragraph!! Do remember to choose only opt in groups at this stage!!

This photo has 77 Faves overnight which I didnt really want but thats how good people are on here!

We will see how many extra faves, if any, it has by Friday!!

Hope your day is good and thank you for joining me!!!!

Friday 12/1/2018

Hiya!

The photo has done quite well since I put it up last Tuesday.

1250 Views! If only 25% of the people here, read this and use the "Workaround" as suggested, that would be really great!

I checked back 6 hours later, on the groups[ 30 ] I had put he photo in, and it had disappeared of their front pages. Mostly it was on the third page. This means that the photo loses interest very quickly as it is pushed further back as other members add their photos. It might be better to add the 60/30 opt in groups over a longer period of time, say 5 per day over 12 days. If course, the larger the group the photo is added to, the quicker it disappears off the front page. In smaller groups it would stay visible for longer.

Im now going to add it to the remaining 30 {Opt In } groups.

Now I have reached the maximum. I can still remove some at this stage and add other ones in but Im leaving it as is.

Im now going to add the opt out groups that I have colected. Approximately 40. { Stage 2 }

Ive finished that and including admin approval on 6 of the photos, I have now put the photo in over 100 groups. I will add more opt out ones as I find them.

It is at this point that any group invites that you have should be added. { Stage 3 }

I do hope you may find this helpful and If you have any questions, please ask and Ill do my best to answer them.

Thanks for all your Faves, comments and your kindness!

Penumbral eclipse of 18/19 October 2013

Credit: Giuseppe Donatiello

Using the original raw files and more recent software, I recovered a new image to replace the now obsolete one from 2013.

The one on October 18/19, 2013 was the last lunar eclipse of the year and was of the relatively deep penumbral type with magnitude 0.7649. The beginning occurred at 21:50:38 UTC, the maximum at 23:50:17 UTC and the end at 01:49:49 UTC.

The following November 3rd there was a solar eclipse, barely visible as a very small partial from southern Italy.

South Stack is famous as the location of one of Wales' most spectacular lighthouses, South Stack Lighthouse. It has a height of 41 metres (135 feet). It has a maximum area of 7 acres.

Until 1828 when an iron suspension bridge was built, the only means of crossing the deep water channel on to the island was in a basket which was suspended on a hemp cable. The suspension bridge was replaced in 1964, but by 1983 the bridge had to be closed to the public, due to safety reasons. A new aluminium bridge was built and the lighthouse was reopened for public visits in 1997. Thousands of people flock to the lighthouse every year, thanks to the continued public transport service from Holyhead's town centre.

There are over 390 stone steps down to the footbridge, and 10 metal steps (and not, as local legend suggests, 365), and the descent and ascent provide an opportunity to see some of the 8,000 nesting birds that line the cliffs during the breeding season. The cliffs are part of the RSPB South Stack Cliffs bird reserve, with a visitor centre, and bird hide at Elin's Tower. The tower provides a place to see Choughs, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel and various marine mammals like the Harbour porpoise seen at high tide, Grey seal, Risso's dolphin and Bottlenose dolphin.

Maankwartier / Moon Quarter Heerlen NL

New construction of 90,000m2 homes, shops, commercial units, hotel and public parking garage. Towards the design of artist Michel Huisman, a new district is being built as a connecting element across the railway yard. Wauben Architects is responsible for the translation of the spatial concept into an architecturally and technically feasible plan. The unique inner-city location on top of the rail infrastructure is very complex and has high performance requirements for logistics, safety and sound insulation. The gigantic complex has many user functions, many of which are delivered as a hull. An accurate integration of escape routes and installations ensures maximum flexibility and adaptability.

Attempts by the Dutch Railways NS around 1995, in close cooperation with the municipality to redevelop the station and expand it with shops and offices, ran aground, even in times when commercial property in the Netherlands was still doing well. When everyone in Heerlen had resigned themselves to the inevitable, a local artist - Michel Huisman - came up with a plan through the media. Huisman was and is not an architect, but with his passionate drawings and ditto stories he managed to get a majority of local politics on a par with the project, renamed it Maankwartier / Moon Quarter. The Maankwartier must connect the center of Heerlen to the north side of the city via rail. The implementation consists of large-scale retail trade (12,000 m2), shops (2,000 m2), hotel / catering industry (7,500 m2), offices (13,900 m2), owner-occupied and rented housing (99 units) and two underground parking garages with 1,175 parking spaces at north and south side and a bicycle parking for 800 bicycles. Weller Property Development develops the offices, the large and small-scale retail trade, the parking facilities and rental apartments. The municipality of Heerlen is responsible for the physical overhang of the railway and all public infrastructure. The municipality has also realized a new bus station. Furthermore, the municipality has issued a guarantee for the purchase of 4000 m2 of office space. NS Stations is the developer of the new train station and associated shops. Building development Jongen participates with a parking garage, 6200 m2 of space for a supermarket, 4000 m2 of office space and a number of owner-occupied apartments. The concrete slab that comes over the railway is the basis for a hotel and some shops, because legislation does not permit living above the railway.

With a small X-Acto cut to the bottom of the Maxim 08/15 receiver, the RPD drum will fit quite nicely. However, there is now no room for it to pitch up & down on a tripod attached to the mounting tab!

The Maxim MG 08/15 overmold will be available in limited quantities at World War Brick in Anaheim. I'll bring my X-Acto and make this mod for anyone that wants one - but you must supply the RPD drum (or get an RPD from the Brickmania store at the show).

This was another one of those times when I am driving right by the most beautiful scenes, admiring...then driving right on past. I turned around as soon as I had the opportunity, drove back and found a spot to park.
