A five pack of MRL's finest are shoving for all their worth at Muir as they climb the east slope of Bozeman Pass. What a show this was both sight and sound.
This is another shot of a leaf of a canna lily plant my wife grew, an unusual variation of the typical homogeneously greenish canna leaf that can be found on most of our cannas. As before, my interests here are the colors and textures, and the forms they create.
I shot it by mounting it on the surface of a softbox (with paper clips!), and using a reflector above the camera. The colors and tones in this image are rather loosely based on what nature produced.
As before, the colors in Photoshop's ProPhoto color space just do not exist in the sRGB color space of the .jpg. And what you see here is about 75%, 25% post processing ... ... ... mmm, maybe 50:50.
As a multi image focus stack, it should reward pretty close inspection; maximum viewing size on your computer can be found by opening the image in a separate window, making that window full screen, and then clicking the cursor as long as a '+' appears in it, typically twice.
The height of the tide in colour
Both these images are roughly the same view point (as the slippery pebbles would allow) The colour seems to be more about what first attracted me to this marker, the progressively diminishing rust marking the maximum extent of the tide
A Greater Shearwater zips by the rocking boat deep offshore in the Bay of Fundy. For me at least this kind of photography is a "spray and pray" situation. With the camera set to maximum frames per second, the instant the autofocus seems to lock I suppress the button and let the shutter rip:

Our annual Harvest Fest for the backyard visitors was a huge success with all.
With four pumpkins, two of them carved, gourds, Indian corn, almonds, pecans, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, corn, brazil nuts, hazel nuts and sunflower seed setting the stage, everyone felt like a star whenever a treat or two was discovered.
In case of this chipmunk there's no telling how many treats are packed into those cheeks.

Even the toughest heroes can crack sometimes and when Charles Deccon, self-proclaimed "Hero" and best friend of Jabberwock, was about to find out how this exactly felt, the unexpected happened. Despite being in a severe state of disrepair, Deccon had pushed himself and his armour well beyond their very limits and he was about to revert back to his human form. This would mean the end of him as the opposing forces would surely crush him and his friends, leaving all that was fought for in vain..
Without warning, the armor reacted and started glowing furiously with a white light that completely enveloped him. Deccon thought his time had finally come and an Angelwas about to take him from the plane of mortals but when he opened his eye he realized he wasstill wearing his armor, which was shining as if nothing ever happened to it. Now stronger than ever, Deccon made good use of his newfound power and upgraded armor.
TL:DR: I uppgraded my secondary selfmoc, Charles Deccon into something I had been envisioning for him for a very long time. His base-proportions haven't changed but despite the fact I added relatively little to the existing frame I still consider this a V2.

📌 COMING TO KINKY EVENT // 28th to 22nd
This shot is just to illustrate the amount of effort the Kingfisher puts into tenderizing its meal. He twisted his body 180 degrees to get as much power into swinging around to slap the fish against the limb as he could. This is a situation where I wish I had been taking a video, but you know what they say about hindsight.

The Kilcunda Bridge was constructed in 1911 for the Victorian Railways as part of the Woolamai-Wonthaggi railway. It is a single-track fifteen span all-timber railway bridge, with a total deck length of 91 metres and a maximum height of twelve metres. Kilcunda Bridge came into use with the opening to traffic of the permanent coal-fields railway in 1911. The line was closed in 1978. The bridge is now part of the Bass Coast Shire Rail Trail, opened c. 2006.
The bridge was once used to transport coal from the “Powlett Coal Fields” by the Victorian Railways in 1911 to 1978. This coal was used to fuel the steam locomotives that crossed the now iconic Bourne Creek Trestle Bridge.

The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two-seat convertible produced by Ford for the 1955 to 1957 model year, the first 2-seat Ford since 1938. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which showed the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette in turn was developed in response to the popularity of European sports cars among Americans.
The new car was unveiled to the public on 20 February 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show. The car was the company’s first 2-seater Ford since 1938 and named, the Ford Thunderbird.
Ford Thunderbird production began in September 1954 and the car went on sale a few weeks later. Even before its release, it started a great furor in the automotive press, which had had its interest piqued by the promising but disappointing Corvette.
The 1957 Thunderbird was not cheap. With an initial list price price of $2,695, quickly raised to $2,944, it was around $1,200 more than a basic Ford Mainline six. Adding the convertible top, heater, radio, and other accessories quickly took the T-Bird’s price well over $3,000. A fully loaded Thunderbird topped out at around $4,000, which was enough to buy two modestly equipped Ford sedans or for that matter a Jaguar XK140, which was faster and handled better.
The ‘Little Bird’ Thunderbird was able to give to the masses what legendary automakers like Bugatti and Mercedes were able to build for the elite. Beautiful styling and high performance would no longer be out of the reach of the average American driver.
Ford had expected to produce only 10,000 cars during the first year, but sales exceeded that number and peaked at 16,155- the maximum that could be built at that time. 1957 sales were 21,380, including three extra months of production because the 1958 models were late. The 1957 Thunderbird was the last two-seater Ford sold until the 1982 Ford EXP sport compact car.

German submarine U-995 is a Type VIIC/41 U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. She was laid down on 25 November 1942 by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany, and commissioned on 16 September 1943 with Oberleutnant zur See Walter Köhntopp in command.
German Type VIIC/41 submarines were preceded by the heavier Type VIIC submarines. U-995 had a displacement of 759 tonnes (747 long tons) when at the surface and 860 tonnes (850 long tons) while submerged.[1] She had a total length of 67.10 m (220 ft 2 in), a pressure hull length of 50.50 m (165 ft 8 in), a beam of 6.20 m (20 ft 4 in), a height of 9.60 m (31 ft 6 in), and a draught of 4.74 m (15 ft 7 in). The submarine was powered by two Germaniawerft F46 four-stroke, six-cylinder supercharged diesel engines producing a total of 2,800 to 3,200 metric horsepower (2,060 to 2,350 kW; 2,760 to 3,160 shp) for use while surfaced, two Brown, Boveri & Cie GG UB 720/8 double-acting electric motors producing a total of 750 metric horsepower (550 kW; 740 shp) for use while submerged. She had two shafts and two 1.23 m (4 ft) propellers. The boat was capable of operating at depths of up to 230 metres (750 ft).
The submarine had a maximum surface speed of 17.7 knots (32.8 km/h; 20.4 mph) and a maximum submerged speed of 7.6 knots (14.1 km/h; 8.7 mph).
When submerged, the boat could operate for 80 nautical miles (150 km; 92 mi) at 4 knots (7.4 km/h; 4.6 mph); when surfaced, she could travel 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km; 9,800 mi) at 10 knots (19 km/h; 12 mph). U-995 was fitted with five 53.3 cm (21 in) torpedo tubes (four fitted at the bow and one at the stern), fourteen torpedoes, and three anti-aircraft guns. The boat had a complement of between forty-four and sixty
At the end of the war on 8 May 1945 she was stricken at Trondheim, Norway. She was surrendered to the British and then transferred to Norwegian ownership in October 1948. In December 1952 U995 became the Norwegian submarine Kaura and in 1965 she was stricken from service by the Royal Norwegian Navy. She then was offered to the German government for the ceremonial price of one Deutsche Mark. The offer was turned down; but the Boat was saved by the German Navy League, DMB, where she became a museum ship at Laboe Naval Memorial in October 1971.

My tribute to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (W 196 S) a 2-seat sports racing car which took part in the 1955 World Sportscar Championship before a catastrophic crash and fire at Le Mans ended the involvement of Mercedes in the sport. The car was designated "SL-R" ( Sport Leicht-Rennen, Sport Light-Racing), which was later condensed to "SLR”. It had a direct-injected 3-litre straight 8 cylinder engine with a 78 mm bore and stroke, its rated power was 276 PS (203 kW) and a maximum speed approaching 290 km/h (180 mph) the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé easily earned the reputation of being the era's fastest road car
One was sold recently at auction for 145 million euro

Australian Wood Duck
Scientific Name: Chenonetta jubata
Description: The Australian Wood Duck is a medium-sized 'goose-like' duck with a dark brown head and a pale grey body with two black stripes along the back. Males have the darker head and a small dark mane, with a speckled brown-grey breast and a black lower belly and undertail. The females have a paler head with two white stripes, above and below the eye, a speckled breast and flanks, with a white lower belly and undertail. In flight, the wings are pale grey above, contrasting with black wingtips, and have a noticeable white bar on the underside (the secondaries). They walk easily on land and may be seen perching on logs and in trees. They will only take to open water when disturbed. This species is also known as the Maned Duck or the Maned Goose.
Similar species: The Australian Wood Duck can be distinguished from pygmy geese,Nettapus spp, which are smaller, have bold white face markings and are usually seen on water. Whistling ducks, Dendrocygna spp, have longer legs and necks, larger more duck-like bills and tend to walk more upright. When flying, the Australian Wood Duck is the only duck with white secondary feathers and dark wingtips.
Distribution: The Australian Wood Duck is widespread in Australia, including Tasmania.
Habitat: The Australian Wood Duck is found in grasslands, open woodlands, wetlands, flooded pastures and along the coast in inlets and bays. It is also common on farmland with dams, as well as around rice fields, sewage ponds and in urban parks. It will often be found around deeper lakes that may be unsuitable for other waterbirds' foraging, as it prefers to forage on land.
Feeding: The Australian Wood Duck eats grasses, clover and other herbs, and occasionally, insects. It is rarely seen on open water, preferring to forage by dabbling in shallow water, or in grasslands and crops.
Breeding: The Australian Wood Duck forms monogamous breeding pairs that stay together year round. It nests in tree holes, above or near water, often re-using the same site. Both parents feed young and young birds remain with them up to a month after fledging.
Calls: Females have long, loud, rising: 'gnow?' while male calls are shorter and higher pitched. Flocks chatter when feeding.
Minimum Size: 44cm
Maximum Size: 50cm
Average size: 47cm
Breeding season: September to November in the south; after rain in the north.
Clutch Size: 8 to 10 eggs
Incubation: 28 days
Nestling Period: 57 days
