Our annual Harvest Fest for the backyard visitors was a huge success with all.
With four pumpkins, two of them carved, gourds, Indian corn, almonds, pecans, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, corn, brazil nuts, hazel nuts and sunflower seed setting the stage, everyone felt like a star whenever a treat or two was discovered.
In case of this chipmunk there's no telling how many treats are packed into those cheeks.
**For those of you who know me, if you saw the squirrel photos yesterday, then you probably guessed chippie shots were next!

If you want to learn more about this kind of photography, I have a photo tour coming up! In partnership with my friend and landscape photographer Slawek Staszczuk www.photoss.net/iceland.html, I’m organizing a week long photographic tour of Iceland in June 2016. I have already led several of these tours and I’m excited to be collaborating with Slawek for this year’s tour. It will be a small group, maximum 4 guests, in an RV. No luxuries, we’ll be moving all over the country focusing on the photography, 24/7. The tuition will include image editing for anyone interested. A reasonable level of fitness is necessary as there is some hiking involved. If you’d like a chance for 1:1 training in a stunning landscape, don’t miss out on this opportunity. Iceland Air flys from many direct locations in Europe and the USA.

Ever feel so full of different ideas that you just seem to be bursting yet at the same time you can't harness all the energy inside your head to actually follow through on any of them? That's kind of where I'm at lately! I feel like my brain is steaming from thinking so much but I can't seem to make it stop and focus on one thing so that I can actually start doing the things I want!
With that said, I'm happy to announce that The Teleidoscope will be opening up again next week, to do a round 2! It will be 52 weeks of themes, giving everyone who plays along the chance to interpret the theme in their own way. I hope you take a look and join the group!
In my christmas stocking I got a neat magazine of photoshop tutorials and one of them was for creating exploding lightbulbs, it was actually perfect timing as I wanted to do a shot just like this but wasn't sure how to make it work!

This is the very first photograph I took with my new purchase. It has quite possibly been many years since the camera was used. So I was apprehensive, and of course with film you have no idea until the negative is developed.
The maximum shutter speed of this old Rolleiflex is 1/500 (perfectly fine when film speeds were much slower). But using 120 film at 200 ASA meant I had to be careful not to over expose. I think here I set the aperture to f/16.

The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two-seat convertible produced by Ford for the 1955 to 1957 model year, the first 2-seat Ford since 1938. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which showed the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette in turn was developed in response to the popularity of European sports cars among Americans.
The new car was unveiled to the public on 20 February 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show. The car was the company’s first 2-seater Ford since 1938 and named, the Ford Thunderbird.
Ford Thunderbird production began in September 1954 and the car went on sale a few weeks later. Even before its release, it started a great furor in the automotive press, which had had its interest piqued by the promising but disappointing Corvette.
The 1957 Thunderbird was not cheap. With an initial list price price of $2,695, quickly raised to $2,944, it was around $1,200 more than a basic Ford Mainline six. Adding the convertible top, heater, radio, and other accessories quickly took the T-Bird’s price well over $3,000. A fully loaded Thunderbird topped out at around $4,000, which was enough to buy two modestly equipped Ford sedans or for that matter a Jaguar XK140, which was faster and handled better.
The ‘Little Bird’ Thunderbird was able to give to the masses what legendary automakers like Bugatti and Mercedes were able to build for the elite. Beautiful styling and high performance would no longer be out of the reach of the average American driver.
Ford had expected to produce only 10,000 cars during the first year, but sales exceeded that number and peaked at 16,155- the maximum that could be built at that time. 1957 sales were 21,380, including three extra months of production because the 1958 models were late. The 1957 Thunderbird was the last two-seater Ford sold until the 1982 Ford EXP sport compact car.

Name: Sabri Edska (TK-253)
Home World: Courscant underworld
Age: 17
Species: Human
Class: Trooper
Faction: Empire
Sabri grew up as an orphan, in the slums of Courscant. She had a rough childhood. With nearly nothing to eat, she almost died of hunger. She was beat up everyday, and to have a warm meal, she had to complete bounties. At the age of 15, she joined the Empire. They promised that they would have maximum security around the entire galaxy. Sabri believes that the Empire will make a difference, so other orphans wouldn't have to have the same childhood as her.
Hey there! This scene took so long to create. On the left of the image, you notice there is a hole at the end. That's because I needed to rush the final part, to avoid losing my member role for the 3rd time. Anyways, happy belated Chirstmas, and enjoy the rest of the holiday!
Monke out.

It happens on average every 15 years, now around 20, that the south-westerly wind blows strong and prolonged into the Gulf of Trieste coming from northern Romagna.
The gulf is very windy, but there are also long periods of calm, but no wind, even the strong Bora, can create high waves, given that within this stretch of sea the maximum distances between the coasts are between 20 and 30km.
The only exception is provided by the wind that comes from the south-west in the wind rose and enters the only opening towards the rest of the Adriatic between the Grado peninsula (FVG, Italy) and tip/rt Savudrija (Istra, Hrvatska).
Through this passage the wind fishes on approximately 250km of sea surface and manages to generate waves of up to 3/4m (sea force 4/5 on the Douglas scale) which are decidedly important values for the area.
This is what happened on Friday 3 November 2023, to which a strong high tide was added, flooding the adjacent state road 14 (viale Miramare) in the Barcola section and where wood, branches, porphyry cubes, concrete blocks were dragged (dragged for meters and metres) algae, stones, sea gravel and seafood.
The road surface is approximately 6m above the sea level.
The photos were taken in reportage style, so point and shoot without paying too much attention to the composition and limiting the image quality to have a quick shot with very short times.
The purpose is not that of likes, obviously, but to document an event which for those who know these areas with little waves was very significant.
The precedents of the last 70 years are very few (1957, 1969, 1984 and 2003) and each time the seafront and the popular bathing establishments have been strengthened so, from the significant damage that occurred, it can be argued that it could have been the strongest storm ever or, at least, among the strongest for this area.
Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.
Australian Wood Duck
Scientific Name: Chenonetta jubata
Description: The Australian Wood Duck is a medium-sized 'goose-like' duck with a dark brown head and a pale grey body with two black stripes along the back. Males have the darker head and a small dark mane, with a speckled brown-grey breast and a black lower belly and undertail. The females have a paler head with two white stripes, above and below the eye, a speckled breast and flanks, with a white lower belly and undertail. In flight, the wings are pale grey above, contrasting with black wingtips, and have a noticeable white bar on the underside (the secondaries). They walk easily on land and may be seen perching on logs and in trees. They will only take to open water when disturbed. This species is also known as the Maned Duck or the Maned Goose.
Similar species: The Australian Wood Duck can be distinguished from pygmy geese,Nettapus spp, which are smaller, have bold white face markings and are usually seen on water. Whistling ducks, Dendrocygna spp, have longer legs and necks, larger more duck-like bills and tend to walk more upright. When flying, the Australian Wood Duck is the only duck with white secondary feathers and dark wingtips.
Distribution: The Australian Wood Duck is widespread in Australia, including Tasmania.
Habitat: The Australian Wood Duck is found in grasslands, open woodlands, wetlands, flooded pastures and along the coast in inlets and bays. It is also common on farmland with dams, as well as around rice fields, sewage ponds and in urban parks. It will often be found around deeper lakes that may be unsuitable for other waterbirds' foraging, as it prefers to forage on land.
Feeding: The Australian Wood Duck eats grasses, clover and other herbs, and occasionally, insects. It is rarely seen on open water, preferring to forage by dabbling in shallow water, or in grasslands and crops.
Breeding: The Australian Wood Duck forms monogamous breeding pairs that stay together year round. It nests in tree holes, above or near water, often re-using the same site. Both parents feed young and young birds remain with them up to a month after fledging.
Calls: Females have long, loud, rising: 'gnow?' while male calls are shorter and higher pitched. Flocks chatter when feeding.
Minimum Size: 44cm
Maximum Size: 50cm
Average size: 47cm
Breeding season: September to November in the south; after rain in the north.
Clutch Size: 8 to 10 eggs
Incubation: 28 days
Nestling Period: 57 days

Sevier Lake is an intermittent and endorheic lake which lies in the lowest part of the Sevier Desert, Millard County, Utah. Like Great Salt Lake and Utah Lake, it is one of the largest remnants of Lake Bonneville which covered much of the state in prehistoric times. Sevier Lake is fed primarily by the Beaver and Sevier Rivers and has been mostly dry throughout recorded history.
The first recorded observation was in 1872, which stated that the lake's surface area was 188 square miles, salinity was measured at 86 parts per thousand, two and a half times that of the ocean, and maximum depth was 15 feet. In January 1880 the lake was nearly dry, and had been so for the past one or two years. The Sevier River which once flowed to the lake is now largely diverted for irrigation. In 1987 however, the lake was again similar to the recorded description of 1872.
As a dry lake bed, Sevier is one of the sources of wind-blown dust in dust storms that frequently sweep the Wasatch Front

Abell 79 is a bright unusual planetary nebula in the constellation Lacerta. It is small (59 arc seconds) but with an assymetrical morphology which results in it being named "The 6 Nebula". The Ha signal is much stronger than the OIII signal, and with a more intricate structure. Some estimates put it's distance at 11, 360 ligght yrears, whereas other estimates are 5,900 light years.
It was originally discvoered in 1947 by Rudolf Minkowski, althouhg he didn't realise that it was a planetary nebula (presumably because of the lack of obvious OIII signal), Subsequently George Abell classified it as a planetary nebula in his 1955 catalog.
Superresolution techniques (also known as drizzle) were used to capture the maximum detail in this small object.
