A cuadros nos hemos quedado cuando vimos a lo lejos la 319.332 remolcando este coche a Fuencarral. Sabíamos algo de unos movimientos de material del museo en la nave de Abroñigal pero pensábamos que quedaría en nada así que pasamos la tarde ajenos a esto, al no tener ni idea de que venía me ha tocado improvisar este encuadre.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Four metres at 12:59am on Saturday 27th January 2024, off the Mall and Horse Guards Road within the grounds of St James's Park in Central London, one of the Royal parks of London situated in South West London.

  

Here we see, Sciurus Carolinensis (Eastern Gray Squirrel or Grey Squirrel), a tree squirrel native to North America and first introduced to the UK in the 1870's. Though it was largely resonsible for the decimation of our own native red squirrel population, those are now on the increase and found in certain parts of the UK including Scotland. The Greys are still an ecologically essential natural forester regenerator.

Earlier in the year, we were given tickets to the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Birdworld in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. With various issues disrupting life it took us until recently for our friend May (Maybe) and us to visit the park. Now May has already posted a couple of delightful shots and Jenny agreed reluctantly for this one to be made public. But before we get into that, I would like to borrow May's eloquent statement about the park (I am sure she won't mind) with which we agree explains the great work they do. We love birds to be free but sometimes, humans have to step in to help the animal kingdom. The birds, often not native species (like those shown here) live in very large aviaries that are made to feel as comfortable as possible in well constructed environments. They are well fed with food specific to their needs, allowed to develop social and family links with other birds in their species and in particular, are free to engage in social activity or not as they please with visitors who fund the park and their well being. I can say for sure there is a lot of love here as birds and humans elect, if they wish to cross the divide and interact.

 

Here is May's statement.

"I I know some of you will be unhappy with me for posting images of birds in captivity, but before you do so, 70%+ of these birds have been rescued from the illegal bird trade or have been donated to the park once their owners have died and other family members couldn't or wouldn't look after them. Many of you will know that our parrot friends are greatly prized on the Black Market and many do not make it out alive from their first harrowing journey. Those that do are often deeply traumatised by the experience and find themselves in less than suitable surrounds for their physical and intellectual needs."

 

Jenny and I absolutely adore interacting with birds on their terms. We had a wonderful Sulphur-Created Cockatoo for many years who was the love of our lives (apart from my human family of course) and we have a variety of birds drop by for some food on a daily basis on their terms. The other thing is that yes, we would prefer these birds to be free. As May states, there are good reasons why this cannot be so for those at the park including the fact that many are not native species.

 

You will notice that birds have a great affinity for Jenny's hair. She hates her hair but they don't. They tease and pull it out, no doubt, it would make ideal nesting material! Perhaps these two are getting ready to set up house! As you can see, many of he birds just love interacting with humans. We know that during lockdowns when the only visitors were staff that the birds reacted very strongly to the loss of interaction.

The Sun Parakeet (Aratinga solstitialis), also known in aviculture as the Sun Conure is a medium-sized, vibrantly colored parrot native to northeastern South America. The adult male and female are similar in appearance, with predominantly golden-yellow plumage and orange-flushed underparts and face. Sun parakeets are very social birds, typically living in flocks. They form monogamous pairs for reproduction, and nest in palm cavities in the tropics. Sun parakeets mainly feed on fruits, flowers, berries, blossoms, seeds, nuts, and insects. Conures are commonly bred and kept in aviculture and may live up to 30 years. This species is currently threatened by loss of habitat and trapping for plumage or the pet trade. Rencontres d'Arles

The Rencontres d’Arles (formerly called Rencontres internationales de la photographie d’Arles) is an annual summer photography festival founded in 1970 by the Arles photographer Lucien Clergue, the writer Michel Tournier and the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette.

 

The Rencontres d’Arles has an international impact by showing material that has never been seen by the public before. In 2015, the festival welcomed 93,000 visitors.

 

The specially designed exhibitions, often organised in collaboration with French and foreign museums and institutions, take place in various historic sites. Some venues, such as 12th-century chapels or 19th-century industrial buildings, are open to the public throughout the festival.

 

The Rencontres d’Arles has revealed many photographers, confirming its significance as a springboard for photography and contemporary creativity.

 

In recent years the Rencontres d’Arles has invited many guest curators and entrusted some of its programming to such figures as Martin Parr in 2004, Raymond Depardon in 2006 and the Arles-born fashion designer Christian Lacroix.

Events

 

Opening week at the Rencontres d’Arles features photography-focused events (projections at night, exhibition tours, panel discussions, symposia, parties, book signings, etc.) in the town’s historic venues, some of which are only open to the public during the festival. Memorable events in recent years include Europe Night (2008), an overview of European photography; Christian Lacroix’s fashion show for the festival’s closing (2008); and Patti Smith’s concert for the Vu agency’s 20th anniversary (2006).

Nights at the Roman Theatre

 

At night, work by a photographer or a photography expert is projected in the town’s open-air Roman theatre accompanied by concerts and performances. Each event is a one-off creation. In 2009, 8,500 people attended evenings at the Roman theatre, an average of 2,000 a night, and 2,500 were there on closing night, when the Tiger Lilies played during a projection of Nan Goldin’s “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency”. In 2013 over 6,000 people attended the nighttime photography projections, an average of approximately 1,000 each night.

The Night of the Year

 

The Night of the Year, which was created in 2006, allows visitors to walk around and see the festival’s favourite works by artists and photographers as well as carte blanche exhibitions by institutions.

Cosmos-Arles Books

 

Cosmos-Arles Books is a Rencontres d’Arles satellite event dedicated to new publishing practices.

 

Over the past 15 years large-scale photographic publications, self-published books, and ebooks have become essential media for experimentation by photographers and artists. They allow photography to be rediscovered as a means of expression and distribution, providing a rich terrain of expression for the art’s fundamentally hybrid forms.

Symposia and panel discussions

 

Photographers and professionals participating in symposia and panel discussions during opening week discuss their work or issues raised by the images on display. In recent years the themes included whether a black-and-white aesthetic is still conceivable in photography (2013); the impact of social networks on creativity and information (2011); breaking with past, a key idea for photography today (2009); photography commissions: freedom or constraint (2008); challenges and changes in the photography market (2007).

The Rencontres d’Arles awards

 

Since 2002 the Rencontres d’Arles awards have been an opportunity to discover new talents. In 2007 the number of annual awards was reduced to three, presented at the closing ceremony of the festival’s professional week: the Discovery Award (€25,000), Author’s Book Award (€8,000) and History Book Award (€8,000).

Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award

 

In 2015 the Rencontres d’Arles offered an award to assist with the publication of a dummy book. Endowed with a €25,000 budget production budget, this new prize is open to all photographers and artists using photography who submit a dummy book that has never been published.

 

The winner’s book will be produced in autumn 2015 and be presented at the 2016 Rencontres d’Arles.

Photo Folio Review & Gallery

 

Since 2006 aspiring photographers have been able to submit their portfolios to international photography experts in various fields, including publishers, exhibition curators, heads of institutions, agency directors, gallery owners, collectors, critics and photo editors, for appraisal during the festival’s opening week. Photo Folio Review & Gallery offers them an opportunity to show their work throughout the festival.

Photography classes

 

The Rencontres d’Arles has always been a place where professional photographers and practitioners on every level have been able to meet each other and exchange ideas. Each year, photography class participants undertake a personal journey of creation through photography’s aesthetic, ethical and technological issues. Leading photographers such as Guy le Querrec, Antoine d’Agata, Martin Parr, René Burri and Joan Fontcuberta regularly teach at the Rencontres d’Arles.

Rentrée en Images

 

“Rentrée en Images” has been a key part of the festival’s educational activities since 2004. During the first two weeks in September, special mediators take students from the primary to graduate school level on guided tours of the exhibitions. Based on the festival’s programming, the event aims to introduce young people to the visual arts and fits in with a wider policy of cultural democratisation. “Rentrée en Images” reaches thousands of students, and for many of them it is their first exposure to contemporary art.

Public funding accounted for 40% of the 2015 festival’s €6.3-million budget, sales (mainly of tickets and derivative products), 40% and private partnerships, 20%[clarification needed][citation needed].

I watched this GC Grebe diving for nesting material. He/she kept bringing it over to a fallen tree and half heartedly placed it on a branch. As soon as its back was turned it fell off and sank to the bottom again.

PORKERI.

 

Porkeri is a village in the Faroe Islands, situated north of Vágur on Suðuroy's east coast. As of 2004 it had a population of 332. It is located at61°28′59″N 6°44′36″W / 61.48306°N 6.74333°W / 61.48306; -6.74333.

 

Porkeri has been inhabited at least as early as the 14th century.

 

The wooden church is from 1847 and contains things donated by seamen who survived lethal storms on the sea, maintaining the tradition of almissu (seamen in danger promised - according to Nordic tradition - to donate churches, the material or such to God if they got back home alive).

 

In 1984 a new school was built in the village. It is built in a modern Faroese style and has grass on the roof. The old school in Porkeri was built in 1888. It was used as such for 96 years. It is now owned by "Porkeris Bygdasavn" which is a museum. The village also has a church, Porkeri Church with a graveyard.

 

Tradition says that once in the old days a dispute of field boundaries between Porkeri and the neighbouring village Hov was sorted out by a walking-race between one man from each village.

Cyanotype of the common sort, an astringing veal, sodium bicarbonate, drinking tea. Synthetic vellum. Like standing made of light, legs astride a confident gruel.

Natural materials. Timber. And technically phosphorus is always natural. Just can't get it in pure form without some help.

 

Leftover wrapping material from past Christmases when I had places to go and gifts to wrap and fundraisers would send it free to decorate the closet.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and thirteen metres at 11:30am on Thursday 8th November 2018, off Biskupstungnabraut 35 and Haukadalsvegur F333 at Gesir, a geothermal location where a geyser erupts every eight to ten minutes. The location is in an area formerly known as Hverasandar at the northern edge of the southern lowlands in Haukadalur, Iceland.

  

The geothermal field has a surface area of around 3 km² and the former spouting Geyser here, named Hvitamelur is dry. To the south are two small spouting Geysers known as Marteinslaug and Gufubadshver, and the current oldest spouting Geyser Northernmost is Geysir itself.

La Raza, Puerto de Sevilla

 

El muelle de las Delicias está gestionado por el Puerto de Sevilla. Es el lugar donde atracan los cruceros turísticos de gran calado. En él se encuentran el Acuario de Sevilla y el Pabellón de Argentina de la Exposición Iberoamericana de 1929.

Hasta mediados del siglo XX se utilizó sobre todo para transporte de mercancías, aunque desde los años 80 del siglo XX se destinó para que atracasen cruceros turísticos. En 2000 se re-adaptó el antiguo tinglado portuario para que sirviera de estación marítima de pasajeros. En 2013 se cercó dicho entorno y se amplió la estación con una moderna estructura construida con contenedores usados para el transporte de mercancías. Se encuentra al sur del muelle de Nueva York, que comienza al norte del puente de los Remedios. El Muelle de las Delicias finaliza en el puente de las Delicias, que es levadizo para posibilitar la entrada de cruceros a dicho muelle y el acceso de embarcaciones al Club Náutico, en el barrio de Los Remedios, que se encuentra en la otra orilla.

Las Delicias pier is managed by the Port of Seville. It is the place where the large tourist cruises dock. In it are the Seville Aquarium and the Argentina Pavilion of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929.

Until the middle of the 20th century, it was used mainly for the transport of goods, although since the 80s of the 20th century it was used for tourist cruise ships. In 2000 the old port shed was re-adapted to serve as a maritime passenger station. In 2013 this environment was fenced off and the station was expanded with a modern structure built with containers used to transport goods. Each of these containers has traveled an average of 1,150,000 kilometers, which is equivalent to going around the world 29 times. In the structure, 97% of the materials are recycled.

It is located south of the New York Pier, which begins north of the Remedies Bridge. The Muelle de las Delicias ends at the Puente de las Delicias, which is a drawbridge to allow the entrance of cruise ships to said dock and the access of boats to the Nautical Club, in the Los Remedios neighborhood, which is on the other shore.

 

This is one of my favorite local moves to shoot here in Charlotte. Sometimes the day shift switcher out of Pinoca Yard will make set-outs and deliveries to the Colonial Materials warehouse on the West Industrial Lead. If they’re running light, you can get a pretty neat view of the locomotive shoving almost all the way (and occasionally ALL the way) into the building. The run to Colonial Materials is an easy one to catch since the crew is required to call up the dispatcher for a signal out of Pinoca Yard to occupy the mainline before shoving onto the West Lead. Here’s a rare appearance of CSX 2807 (ex-Conrail 8266) with its high-clearance plow making a pickup at Colonial. Units with these plows rarely stray away from trackage in the northeast where electric third rails are a clearance concern, but this one found its way down south for some reason. Even rarer was the significant (for Charlotte) amount of snowfall on the ground! Charlotte, NC, 1/17/2022.

Cazado el Costa Brava en Viladecans nos fuimos a Vilanova a recoger a Arcadi y tras un breve almuerzo en Cubelles pusimos rumbo a una curva ya conocida por mí pero en la que tenía ganas de pillar un tren de material convencional. El segundo y último paso St. Andreu Comtal – Mora la Nova vino puntual y lo hizo con la 252.058 y 13 coches, siendo 6 de ellos los que había traído el Costa Brava aquella misma mañana y los otros 7 los del último Pío Baroja.

 

After photographing the Estrella Costa Brava in Viladecans we moved to Vilanova to pick up Arcadi and then, after having breackfast in Cubelles, we went to Capçanes, to a well-known curve where I wanted to photograph a conventional train for a long time. Second transfer of out of service carriages to Mora la Nova came on time formed by the 252.058 and 13 carriages, being six of them the ones which had brought the Estrella Costa Brava that same morning and the other seven those of the last Pío Baroja.
