Although there’s a chick in the nest, the adults are still bringing nesting material. I would love to be able to ask them why but I imagine that it makes the nest more comfortable, covering a the bottom that may have been soiled or have bits of food drawing insects. It’s not easy to see what’s happening in the nest and I have yet to see the chick, or chicks if there’s more than one. Hopefully we’ll soon see a head or two pop up. I FINALLY decided to leave the apt. yesterday! After almost a week of being locked in a room with a bunch of kittens and a crazed Labrador Retriever, I figured I should maybe get out and get some fresh air, so Pearl and I went bird hunting.
She slept in the backseat while I rode around looking for potential models.
First stop was the osprey nest to see how things are faring.
I was just in time to see Abby returning with a talon full of grass.
It's nesting season. A pair of dark-eyed juncos started chirping at me and the dog the other day. Although I didn't see where their nest is (they build nests on the ground), it must have been nearby.
There were hundreds and hundreds of puffins on the cliffs and lots of feathers too. I captured this image as one Atlantic puffin was gathering the feathers for nesting material They certainly know how to recycle and it was great fun to see just how many he could get in his mouth !! This image was taken in Newfoundland , Canada !!

I riti della Settimana Santa si fanno risalire all’epoca della dominazione spagnola nell’Italia meridionale.
Le manifestazioni per ricordare la Passione e la morte di Cristo hanno ancora molte affinità con quelle di alcune città della Spagna.
A Grottaglie, la processione dei Misteri, è curata fin dai primi anni del Settecento dalla Confraternita del Purgatorio.
I riti della Settimana Santa iniziavano il Giovedì di Passione, quando la Confraternita del Purgatorio traslava la Vergine Addolorata dalla Chiesa delle Clarisse alla Chiesa Madre. La statua entrava in Chiesa alla fine della predica quaresimale, dopo che il Priore bussava per tre volte al portone interno della stessa. Il Venerdì di Passione, i confratelli del Purgatorio, rivestiti con l’abito sacro e incappucciati, portavano in processione la Madonna Addolorata cantando inni sacri intervallati dalle note della banda musicale.
Il pellegrinaggio dei “Bbubbli Bbubbli a lla scazáta” (confratelli della Confraternita del Carmine scalzi) è uno dei pochi riti ancora rimasti intatti, svolto sia di Giovedì che di Venerdì Santo, fino all’inizio della cerimonia della Passione e Morte del Signore.
Il Venerdì Santo, a conclusione del rito della Passio Christi, uscivano le sacre statue dei Misteri con la Vergine Addolorata a cura della Confraternita del Purgatorio; una processione che ancora oggi resiste e che vede tanta religiosità popolare e suggestione per quei volti sofferenti di Cristo e di Sua Madre. Le statue dei "misteri", portate a spalle da confratelli e da uomini vestiti di nero erano accompagnate da donne in abito di lutto, tra le struggenti note di inni religiosi e funerei, che obbligavano a meditare sul mistero della morte e della resurrezione.
Cinque tra le sacre statue sono in cartapesta e si pensa che possano risalire ad un periodo compreso tra la fine del Settecento e gli inizi dell'Ottocento: "Cristo all'orto", "Cristo alla colonna", "Cristo alla canna", "la Cascata" e "Cristo crocifisso". In legno è invece il "Cristo Morto", mentre "l'Addolorata" è rappresentata da un tipico manichino rivestito con abiti in tessuto nero.
Nella processione dei Misteri, i Confratelli della Confraternita del Purgatorio portano a spalla solo il Cristo Morto e la Madonna Addolorata e, durante il suo svolgersi, viene spesso cantato lo struggente "Inno a Cristo Morto", musicato nella prima metà del Novecento dal Maestro Giuseppe Cardone su versi di Maria Ciocia D'Ettole.
Particolare interesse suscitavano gli “squilli di tromba” seguiti dai “lugubri rintocchi del tamburo” e dal “fragoroso crepitare della troccola” agitata nervosamente dalla mano del confratello, che ad intervalli regolari si udivano nel silenzio della notte

Just found the reason for those slabs on either side of the river:
The Mountain Quarry Cement Bridge, later known as "No Hands Bridge," was completed on March 23, 1912, by 600 men working on the Placer County side and 200 more on the E1 Dorado side to the tune of $300,000. At the time of its construction the bridge was the longest concrete arch bridge in the world. The building of this structure proved that concrete was practical for building long bridges. Although it was plagued by various problems during construction , the span was considered a great piece of railroad bridge engineering.
The old cement bridge stands today as a proud monument to early-day engineering and the men who built it. The bridge has withstood the tugging of the American River currents for over 80 years and stayed on its footings when the Hell Hole Dam broke in December 1964 and took out two modern bridges upstream. It also withstood the so-called "Valentines Day Flood" of 1986, which submerged the bridge before destroying a 250-foot earth-filled coffer dam two miles down river.
The cement bridge has served as a landmark since the railroad went out of service in the 1940s. It did, however, serve a purpose shortly after the Hell Hole dam flood. The dam, located some 40 miles upstream, brought millions of tons of thundering water down the Middle Fork. The force of the water tore out the newer concrete-and-steel highway bridge nearby that linked Auburn with Cool and Georgetown. But the cement railroad bridge survived and was quickly pressed into temporary service to restore vehicle traffic between the two counties.
The rail route's 15 trestles and lines of tracks were removed in the 1940s: the metal and other materials were used in the war effort.
Today, a portion of the old rail route is designated as the Western States Pioneer Express Recreation Trail, in accordance with the National Trails System Act. It is primarily used by horsemen, runners and hikers. The name "no hands" came from veteran rider, Ina Robinson, who would drop her reins to ride across the then guardrail-less bridge. The bridge now stands as the "gateway to Auburn" and the final American River crossing of the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run.
This new build on New Oxford Street has some interesting materials and looks rather nice ... need to do a little research ...

Creo que es una imagen muy apropiada para BN porque esos toques de luz, lucen mucho mas que en color.
Realmente pienso que infravaloramos un poco el BN y aquí en estos días, estoy viendo material de muchos quilates.
