Ploughing Match (Weald of Kent Ploughing Match at Chainhurst near Tonbridge), 16 September 2023.

For this macromondays theme I decided to twist the scene. Three matches on a rotary table with a strobo lamp. The optical properties are not optimal, but the true challnge was to get the simetry. SOOC. Please see my other tries in my stream.

Amtrak's Southwest Chief had just departed Fort Madison and was approaching the Mississippi River crossing on a cloudy day in 1995.

When Amtrak used equipment that matched, it looked pretty nice. Unfortunately, when Amtrak decided to go with that bland Phase V paint on their locomotives, the equipment no longer matched the power.

One moment of magic, or one big moment to capture the match. (John Plumtree)

3.6:1 Macro world of a regular match

The early morning sun has risen just high enough to illuminate the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad (DL) pair of Erie Lackawanna heritage units, sitting quiet near Bridge 60. Both units are ALCO Century C425 models, with 2461 sporting an earlier E-L scheme and 2452 painted in the later - and more common - scheme.

In the 1990s Burlington Northern rebuilt two ex-Northern Pacific F9s for executive train service. They traveled around the system until the merger with Santa Fe, when they were sent to the Illinois Railway Museum. Unfortunately, IMHO, they were painted in one of worst paint schemes ever designed for a diesel locomotive - it was just ghastly. I mean, what idiot comes up with a design that paints the roof of a diesel white? Just picture this train with proper BN green cars and the Fs in green with the passenger white "hockey stick" instead.

This view shows the A-B set of Fs pulling a special south at Brook Park, Minn. on Sept. 14, 1995. I'll give it one thing - at least the cars and locomotives match.

Thankfully this scheme was given its proper burial after the merger with the Santa Fe.

27.03.2017 - 22:56

What an amazing night, it fired all night right through to the next day. I have only once before seen such brightness in the Aurora Australis, that was 17th March 2015, St Patricks day. A sight to behold, and record. :-)

Bride and groom, a perfect match! Adding in the fact that they are actual matches makes the match even more perfect!

Tried to capture the striking of a match on the match box, but when I Finally got a few captured at the right time, it didn't seem to work.

So this is a split second after as the flare just dies down.

Fire - handle with care

Halfway through an imposed 10 day health isolation period, I have had ample time to observe greedy Bluejays feeding off of my wife's overly generous helpings of shelled peanuts.

One ability they have that even crows can't seem to match is to half swallow a peanut lengthwise in their throats and leave just enough room at the opening of their beak to swiftly snatch another peanut sideways and fly off with their double booty.
