A football match between a team of formerly homeless people and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Tameside has raised £2,018 for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Homelessness Fund.
On Sunday 21 October, more than 500 people turned out to support the Emmaus Vs GMP Tameside Charity Football Match at Seel Park in Mossley. The Emmaus team, which included former professional footballer Andy Ritchie and staff from Oldham Athletic, mostly consisted of formerly homeless people who are now supported by the charity.
The match was organised by GMPs Tameside Division with support from Emmaus Mossley, Mossley A.F.C and Oldham Athletic Community Trust (OACT). The game was played in good spirits with GMP Tameside taking the win with a score line of 8-2.
PC Steve Naylor from Greater Manchester Police, said: “What a fantastic day! Thanks to everyone who made it all possible, to all the generous businesses who donated raffle prizes, Mossley AFC for providing the venue, OACT for securing the services of Andy Ritchie, Andy himself and Chief Constable Ian Hopkins for presenting the awards.”
“I want to thank and congratulate all of the lads from each team who put on a great show. Most of all, thanks to everyone who took time out, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, to come down and support the event. Without you, the day wouldn't have been half as much of a success as it was.”
The Emmaus team included people who live, work and are supported by Emmaus Mossley and Emmaus Leeds. Emmaus communities support formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting. Each Emmaus runs different social enterprises, providing work and development opportunities whilst generating income to sustain the work of the charity.
Darren Bateman, companion of Emmaus Mossley and team captain of the Emmaus XI, said: “I really enjoyed the game, getting on the score sheet and playing alongside Andy Ritchie. I thought both teams did really well and I would like to congratulate the GMP Tameside team on their win.
“Massive thanks to all the people and businesses who supported the event and special thanks to the people at GMP Tameside, Mossley AFC and OACT for making it happen.”
The family-friendly event included GMP mascots Constable Cub and Wolfie, OAFC’s Chaddy The Owl and Stockport County’s Vernon Bear. An under-eight’s youth tournament took place with teams from Clarksfield and Glodwick FC, Denton Youth, Dukinfield Tigers and Springhead Reds, with Springhead running out winners after a nail biting penalty shootout.

Connor played his first official chess tournament Saturday at the National Chess Federation in downtown DC. He did fine, and the school team did well. The light was tricky but I was pleased with this shot.
I got this dress hoping that it would match this jacket more or less, but didn't. It's a pity they didn't. but the dress is still nice as is the jacket.
This is an overlong video of five matches firing up one at a time. the first match was lit using a home-brew red laser that I built from a CD burner.
Had a decent bike ride today not too warm. saw a dead turkey vulture by the road at one point, the first dead one I've seen.
Cheers.

Match day at the GB Talent Squad training camp at the British Wrestling Academy on Thursday 24th February 2022.

The British Wrestling Talent Pathway.
The pathway will still consist of two tiers for those in secondary education with Regional squads leading to selection for the GB Talent Squad. The changes come in the change of focus to time spent on the mat working on technical and tactical skills and learning what it takes to be an elite athlete.
The Regional Squads consist of U13, U15 and Cadets with training on a monthly basis between September and April. Numbers will be limited to ensure that every athlete on the squad receives focused coaching to develop and improve. Club coaches are invited to attend along with their athletes to work alongside regional and national coaches.
The GB Talent Squad, for U15 and Cadets, will meet less frequently but with a focus on more time spent on the mat at three camps across the season in October, February, and April plus a summer camp. Numbers will be limited to approximately 18 in order that National coaches can work closely with the athlete, their club and regional coaches to develop and improve.

Brooklyn-based design studio Young Projects was selected as the winner of the 2014 Times Square Alliance Valentine Heart Design competition. “Match-Maker” cosmically connects people through zodiac signs at twelve viewing points around the heart shaped sculpture. Peering through the colorful intertwined periscopes provides glimpses of each viewer’s four most ideal astrological mates. The form of the sculpture is complex, symmetrical and changes as viewers experience it from different vantage points. From many angles, the installation looks like a perfect heart form, but from other perspectives, the sculpture is tangled and multifaceted. Kammetal oversaw the construction of the installation.
Since “Match-Maker’s” month long debut in Times Square, the sculpture has been relocated to the DUMBO Archway in Brooklyn for two months. Young Projects, the DUMBO Improvement District and the DOT Art Program are happy to “cosmically connect” New Yorkers and visitors in another part of the City.
