"He who gives you many dreams is a great master, and the foggy weather is such a master!"

Great Potoo - Wild - At Pantanal - MT.
With its characteristic drawn-out moaning growl, the vocalizations of the Great Potoo are among the most exciting and perhaps most unsettling nocturnal sounds in the Neotropics. Apart from its vocalizations, the Great Potoo is an intriguing species. Great Potoos are nocturnal and feed on large flying insects, and occasionally bats, which they capture in sallies from a high perch. During the day, they remain motionless in mimic of broken tree branches. The Great Potoo is distributed throughout humid and semihumid forested habitats in Central and South America. Across this vast region, there is little geographic variation in size or in plumage; two subspecies sometimes are recognized, but these do not differ greatly from each other. Despite the lack of conspicuous geographic variation, populations on either side of the Andes have been found to be very distinct genetically. This level of divergence is similar to the genetic divergence found between other species of potoo, pointing the possibility for ‘cryptic’ species within the Great Potoo lineage. neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/Species-Account/nb/species/...

Come crawling faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Your life burns faster (faster)
Obey your master, master
Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master, master
Using the "Skull" and its shadow this time to create this Master of Dreams with its open mind;-))
Happy Sliders Sunday!!

This week the theme was old masters. I was looking through pictures by the old masters and chose dogs as topic. I was trying to emulate John Emms, I am not sure how successful I was. Moose wasn't thrilled about being up on the crate no matter how many treats were offered. He was finally persuaded up on the but then he wouldn't perk his ears. He still looks cute with his ears the way they are.

The Grayling is the UK’s largest brown butterfly and a master of camouflage! The mottled brown under wings enable the Grayling to blend in with the background. They always rest with their wings closed, and can regulate their body temperature by orienting its body in relation to the sun. This tactic can also help in increasing camouflage by angling their wings to cast less of a shadow.
Graylings can be found flying along dry, sandy heathland tracks from July to mid-September. They can also be found at coastal sites.
Graylings have eye spots on their wings which enables them to surprise would-be predators.
Adult graylings will take nectar from a range of sources, including bell heather and brambles. Caterpillar Foodplants
include Sheep's-fescue (Festuca ovina), Red Fescue (F. rubra), Bristle Bent (Agrostis curtisii), and Early Hair-grass (Aira praecox). Coarser grasses such as Tufted Hair-grass (Deschampsia cespitosa) and Marram (Ammophila arenaria) are occasionally used.
The Grayling is widespread on the coast and southern heaths but is declining in many areas, particularly inland. Many colonies occur on coastal habitats such as; dunes, saltmarsh, undercliffs and clifftops. There are inland colonies on habitats including; dry heathland, chalk grassland, old quarries, earthworks, derelict industrial sites - such as old spoil heaps and very occasionally in open woodland on stony ground.

This is the bottom end of the Master Lock Magnum Padlock. With a name like Magnum you know its got to be tough. The body width is 1-3/4 inches, 1-1/2 inches of which is in frame.
Strobist/technical info:
The lock was placed in a 24'' x 24" light box with black velvet-textured fabric as a backdrop. Two Nikon SB900 speedlights were placed laterally 90-degress CR and CL and aimed up at a 30-degree angle. The speedlight CL was fired bare through the light box in Manual mode @ 1⁄8 power. The speedlight CR was also bare and in Manual mode, fired @ 1⁄16 power. A third speedlight, a Nikon SB700 with a Gary Fong 5th Gen Lightsphere attached was placed 20-degrees CL and 8" behind the camera position. It was used as fill light and was fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄128 power. An 8"x10" white foam board was placed directly below and in front of the lens for added bounce. The blue LED of a Coast TX10 Quad Color flashlight was shone during exposure for blue highlights. It was placed 6" directly above the camera and pointed down at the subject at a 45-degree angle.
The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X 's; the SB700 was placed in SU-4 mode and triggered by the other flashes.
Lens: Tokina AT-X Pro Macro 100 F2.8 D.
