In 1925, the city of Dessau marked a significant moment in architectural history by commissioning Walter Gropius to construct three semidetached houses for the Bauhaus masters and a separate house for the director. These structures, embodying the Bauhaus principles of functionalism and modernism, not only provided living spaces for the masters but also served as a testament to the innovative design philosophy of the Bauhaus movement.
The Masters' Houses, as they are known, along with the Bauhaus Building, have since become iconic landmarks, reflecting the avant-garde aesthetic that was years ahead of its time and contributing to Dessau's cultural heritage.
