Weird shaped photo, huh?. Pretty tricky scene to make, but I think the outcome is satisfactory.

I told you all ten days ago that I was going to take myself away from flickr for a bit, perhaps not completely, but enough at least to focus on other things. I must admit I was pretty certain that wasn't going to happen.... I couldn't. I'm too addicted. And I'm addicted to you lot too. Thanks for all your comments of support. I was a bit down but all it took were a few words from some friends and suddenly the mask had slipped and that cheeky little smile had crept out again. I can't help myself I'm afraid!
Imperial War Museum (IWM) North.
Uno? Nessuno? Centomila?"
This photo is one of those that it is possible to define "Carpe Diem" (seize the day); in fact few seconds later, the objects on the small table have been moved.
Initially my idea was of representing the carnival spirit of the Venetian "tradition", placed side by side by an object that was representing the "modernity" of our epoch.
Subsequently, analysing better the photo, I have thought how two so different objects, in some cases might represent the same thing.
I have thought on the fact that the social network have come to be part in an invasive way, in many cases, of our lives.
The telephone is the tool with which we prefer interface with people so, many times, we try to avoid the relations does face to face.
So the cell-phone, the screen, a nickname, a number of telephone could be the "modern mask",.
But as was saying Luigi Pirandello (Italian playwrighter, writer and poet) : " who we are? One? None? Hundred thousand?"
Looking at these beautiful masking tapes, can you believe they originated from fly catching paper from 1923? Any company survives over 80 years deserves certain admiration. Kamoi is a Japanese company started to produce fly catching paper in the 20's and gradually changed its business nature to paper adhesive tapes, recently supplying masking tapes for the auto industry.
A few years ago, a Japanese school teacher sent a mail to Kamoi requesting them to make more colors available from their adhesive tapes because she used to do school projects with a lot of their tapes and felt the demand strong for the craft projects in education sector. Kamoi responded by trial running and eventually the MT masking tape brand was born. Imagine that, one customer comment transforms your entire business. You just have to listen carefully and appreciate your customer's creativity. Today MT became wildly popular in Japan for all the possibilities this simple tool can bring to lifestyle.
I saw these tapes in Japan early 2008 when they hit the market. I immediately got a few and pondered whether this will be good for our market in Hong Kong. Some say Hong Kong is a cultural desert but I always challenge them "did you do something about it?" Lifestyle is learned, so these tapes won't get hit unless somebody is willing to show the possibilities. You just have to inspire by examples, and listen to your customers. OK, they are arriving in a week's time to city'super/LOG-ON and I'm gonna feature them in our Travel Photo Cafe 2009! I beg you to go to MT masking tape's web site, check out how people are using them in most creative ways and you'll be amazed, guaranteed!

Barong masks are some of the most important cultural artifacts in Bali. The Barong is a mythical beast that purifies and protects the village. The mask itself is a sacred object of worship and usually kept in a temple. Barong masks are taken out to perform dances and ceremonies on major holidays, most notably the Kunti Sraya, or Barong Dance. That dance recreates a contest between good (represented by the Barong and its followers) and evil (represented by the goddess of death, Rangda, and her followers).
It is important for researchers and doctors to understand more about how people camouflage, because camouflaging might make people unwell. For example, some studies have found that people who camouflage more also have more mental health problems, such as depression or anxiety. It is important that we learn more about why these mental health problems happen, so we can help people to feel better..." I find that we must reflect on the good and the bad that comes with autism. My experiences vary: I can be so happy and joyous that I will stim (reactions/movements that autistic people may do when there's a sensory overload or an overwhelming sense of joy or stress.) But then I can also feel very low and drained, this can be due to masking for a lengthy period of time; long social interactions and intense 1-1 situations- often with strangers. đ
-
These opposite sides of the masking spectrum can be very varying and inconsistent. Now that I am aware of masking and how it is something I do, I worry about the implications from this; how will it affect me as I grow further into adulthood: building my own family and my business. Will I be happy, healthy and me? đ

This photo is a portrayal of the conflict that comes with masking. How it feels to be in the centre of masking, particularly for a long period of time. You feel yourself doing whatever you can to successfully mask, to hide any autistic traits that people might judge. I often feel exposed when trying to mask, like I can't hide and am a witness to my own insecurities. đ

Ecclesiastes 5:6
Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, âMy vow was a mistake.â Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?
the mask works too ways..from one side you get the shadows and the other the light
and you'll never know which is which unless you are the one between them
be gentle with those around you, you may not know the challenges they suffer..right before your eyes

âMoonlit Masqueradeâ
In the garden silenced by the moon, the couple moved like elegant phantoms. Their Venetian masks, half mystery and half defiance, seemed to laugh at the world and at themselves, as if they had stepped out of Carrollâs twisted dream. He offered her his arm with a gesture that was both courtship and threat. Among tangled hedges and capricious shadows, they sealed a pact of madness and desire: to dance until the clock shattered and the White Rabbit could never again find the way out of the labyrinth.
