colors airbrushed, I'm not sure the weathering I did is obvious enough. Maybe I won't know until it's dullcoated.

While cleaning a home we found markings on the wall that showed the heights of the children at different ages, all of the kids survived!

From April 30-May 3 I was part of a team that delivered relief and humanitarian aid to Ishinomaki in Japan. This was a shocking few days for me.You can see what it still looks like more that 50 days after the disaster of March 11, 2011. I will be going through and editing many more photos so there is a more accurate view of what I saw and photographed. These photos are not meant to exploit the area for photography sake but to show others that much more work needs to be done and hopefully inspire as many people as possible to go north to Tohoku and help or donate money to help rebuild the lives of the wonderful people I met who have been through and continue to live in what I cannot even describe in words.

On Friday, February 6, 2015, Utica Academy of Science celebrated Black History Month during 2nd Marking Period Award Ceremony when we recognized our scholars who have achieved tremendous feats in the second quarter.

Judge Jawwadd Rasheed who is a Family Court Magistrate in Oneida County and also one of our board of trustee members joined our scholars, teachers, and parents to celebrate Black History Month. Judge Rasheed outlined what he called the "Five Steps to Making You Better Women and Men". He detailed his take on what one needs to become successful:

Knowledge of who you are: You have to know who you are and you have to be OK with that

Vision: helps to shape your focus and gives you direction

Dedication: doing anything necessary to achieve your goals

Perseverance: never giving up, never quit, even if you fail

Faith: trust in something greater than yourself

The judge urged students to "put those five things together and put them to work in your daily life" in order to reach one's goals.

The students were a captive audience as Judge Rasheed left this parting message: "Each of you has a contribution that you are supposed to make. You will never know how great you're supposed to be until you give it all you've got."

During 2nd marking period, Utica Academy of Science had:

UAS Atoms Robotics Team competed in robotics competitions one in NJ and team was award with Teamwork award, another competition in MVCC and team was qualified to go to SUNY Poly to compete, and lastly in SUNY Poly and our team was awarded "Gracious Professionalism".

Scholars brought in 1255 non-parishable food items in order to help Utica Food Bank during January.

Mrs. Nazel organized our first concert ever with 6th grade scholars and UAS Music Band on January 28th, 2015.

26 field trips were organized to various locations.

6 guest speakers visited our school to speak with our students.

Scholars attended to 9 Saturday schools.

Awards were given to scholars who made High Honor Roll, Honor Roll, Best Academics, Best Citizenship, and Most Imrpoved Scholar. Scholars for the last three categories represent each grade section, while High Honor Roll and Honor Roll are representative of all scholars with the highest grades in the school, regardless of class section. It is amazing to see how many scholars have achieved such success so early in the academic year, including 75 High Honor Roll scholars, 44 Honor Roll scholars, 14 scholars receiving the Best Academic, 11 scholars receiving the Best Citizenship Awards, and 11 scholars receiving the Most Improved Award during the 2nd marking period. Judge Jawwadd Rasheed and Utica Academy of Science teachers presented the awards to their scholars and are extremely proud of all their accomplishments.

There's quite a few of these type markings, especially the arrows, on old Pennant Sandstone kerbs in my area. This one has an identical marking on the opposite side of the road.

Others are either just the arrow, an arrow without the tail (like <), and a letter D.

Could be indicating where utilities (electricity, gas, water) pass under the pavements I guess.

The one pictured has an identical marking directly opposite on the other side of the road, this is the only example of this I've found.

I think I actually prefer the Konica M-Hexanon markings more, but Leica's glass kills the Hexanon anyway.

I'm still marking the Amish wall quilt. The design was provided in the book.

Damara Dikdik marking territory by rubbing scent gland near eye on the end of a branch.

This is my favorite pic of the trip. Behind the older lady on the right are the markings of her height when she was a child 80 years ago (She is Momo Chan). Unfortunatley is was really dark inside the bath house so her face is a little blurred, still a flash just wouldn't have done the pic justice.

For today's Networked Narratives activityy we did old school black out poetry (with pens). Everyone in class worked the same sheet-- “The Old World” opening page in Carlos Fuentes’ Terra Nostras

Here I boxed my intended odds, just meed to color out the rest.

A side view of the old radar control panels. The word GATAR and a weird face are scribbled on the equipment. I wonder what GATAR means? Perhaps Ground Air Transmit and Receive? Guided Advanced Tactical Atomic Rocket?? Mysterious...

The word apotropaic comes from the Latin for a verse or hymn intended to avert the wrath of angry gods. Typical marks invoke the protection of the Virgin Mary by using the letters 'VV"(which stands for Virgin of Virgins), spectacle marks to deflect the evil eye and runic symbols which were considered to have magical powers

The purples shows where I've completed stitching. The pink shows where I'm going. I highlight in pink one single symbol at a time or in a section, then when I finish it I highlight in blue. It makes it very simple to keep track of my path.

Are all these road markings really necessary?
