St Cuthbert’s Church stands prominently on Shibdon Road, Blaydon‑on‑Tyne, serving as the parish church for Blaydon and Stella since the mid‑19th century. It is a Grade II listed building, recognised for its architectural and historic significance. Built during a period of rapid industrial growth, it became a spiritual anchor for miners, ironworkers, railwaymen, and families across Blaydon, Winlaton, and Stella.

Foundation & Early Parish History (1844–1866)

The site for St Cuthbert’s was donated by T. W. Beaumont Esq., a major local landowner. The church opened for public worship on 24 November 1844, led by Rector Wardell of Winlaton.

In August 1844, the new parish of St Cuthbert, Stella was formally created. It included:

The first incumbent was Revd. William Brown, M.A., who served from the parish’s formation until his death in 1876. The benefice became a rectory in 1866, with Brown as the first Rector.

Architectural Development (1844–1900)

The church was designed by G. Pickering in Early English Gothic style, using snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The original layout included:

This style was typical of mid‑Victorian Anglican churches, but St Cuthbert’s is noted for being better detailed than most Early English churches of its date.

These memorials reflect Blaydon’s contribution to national service and the church’s role as a centre of remembrance.

Currently, we are unsure if this is a hybrid or "nature's freak" as this specimen was caught by our civil service officer after it caused havoc in one of the busiest highways in Kuala Lumpur.

Note:

Hybrid here means it's from the exotic pet circle @ runaway pet.

Nature's freak-in general this species' natural coloration is either dark brown or light black but the present snake is light orange.

Distribution: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malay Peninsula, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Nepal, and Thailand.

Reproduction: This is an oviparous species. Females normally lay 16 to 33 eggs per clutch whereby incubation periods range from 55 to 73 days. Egg-laying takes place from January through March when it's slightly warmer. The females usually stay with her eggs for awhile. There have been reports of interbreeding between Indian cobra (Naja naja) x Monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia)

Description: The dorsal surface may be yellow, brown, gray, or blackish, with or without ragged or clearly defined cross bands. The O-shape marking can be olivaceous, brownish to black above with or without a yellow or orange-colored. In general , it has a black spot on the lower/inner surface of the hood on either side (surprisingly this specimen did not exhibit this trait), and one or two black cross-bars on the belly behind it

Length: Adults can reach a maximum of 2.3 m (7.5 ft) in length. Many larger specimens have been recorded, but this size are rare.

She is an adorable little salamander, a creature of derisive fragility compared to the colossi that ruled here only yesterday. With her innocent gaze and delicate silhouette, she embodies survival: a frail, flickering flame that has weathered the cataclysm to carry an immense hope.

The fate of the giants serves as a reminder: on Earth, life is but a fragile and precarious balance. In this theater of stone, it is gentleness that now inherits the world. For even after extinction, life finds a way.

I caught this image of a young girl running up the hill toward the memorial stone marking the graves of the patriots who fought in the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Sadly too many who got their wish to die for Ireland, did so by hangman or in front of English firing squads. Tara is also the home of the ancient Lia Fáil or Stone of Destiny of the Irish Kings of old.

The Pyrginae, popularly known as Flats or Spreadwings, are a cosmopolitan subfamily distributed across temperate and tropical habitats throughout the world. In the Americas there are 990 species, of which about 580 are assigned to the tribe Pyrgini.

There are 14 recognised species in the genus Heliopetes. All have a white ground colour. They can be most easily distinguished from each other by examination of the underside markings.

This species occurs from Mexico to Argentina.

Heliopetes alana is found mainly in disturbed woodland and forest. In common with other Heliopetes species the adults normally bask on low foliage, holding their wings half open.

The church hosts also a marking in the form of a meridian line inlaid in the paving of the left aisle in 1655; it was calculated and designed by the astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini, who was teaching astronomy at the University. A meridian line does not indicate the time: instead, with its length of 66.8 metres (219 ft) it is one of the largest astronomical instruments in the world, allowing measurements that were for the time uniquely precise. The sun light, entering through a 27.07 mm (1.066 in) hole placed at a 27.07 m (88.8 ft) height in the church wall, projects an elliptical image of the sun, which at local noon falls exactly on the meridian line and every day is different as to position and size. The position of the projected image along the line allows to determine accurately the daily altitude of the sun at noon, from which Cassini was able to calculate with unprecedented precision astronomical parameters such as the obliquity of the ecliptic, the duration of the tropical year and the timing of equinoxes and solstices. On the other hand, the size of the projected sun's image, and in particular its rate of variation during the year, allowed Cassini the first experimental verification of Kepler's laws of planetary motion.

Cassini and Domenico Guglielmini published an illustrated account of how the meridian line was accomplished in 1695.

An early morning walk along the the Norfolk coast near Horsey. Grey and common seals populate the shoreline; and whilst a little early in the season for the pups it's nonetheless a sensitive time as they prepare for the challenging months ahead.

The markings on the young bald eagles are quite pretty I think. Here under some nice light you can check them out while in flight.

We went camping in Ocotillo Wells Friday night out in the desert and played with some long exposures. It's always fun on a summer night to set up a tripod and use something like a cell phone or iPod to do some image writing.

This one my son Nathaniel did with his iPod Touch by walking around shining it on the ground, less than a foot off the ground.

This juvenile Bald Eagle was totally exposed as he was surveying the lake for a meal. Having one in this position you can get a really good feel for the size of the wing span. You also get a great view of the colors and markings of this beautiful raptor.

A couple of weeks ago when we went down to Flamingo we had these guys in the snags that are along side the road way down there. We did not stop for each and every one and some as soon as you would start to slow down flew off others couldn't care less about us such as this one. We pulled up close to him and he never moved.

No markings except the registration on the tail and the nose.

Ook goederentreinen zullen van die verbinding gebruik gaan maken en zullen de spoorponten waarschijnlijk gaan verdwijnen. De foto is aan de Aziatische kant gemaakt in 1988, bij Haydarpaşa.

On 29 October 2013, the 13.6-kilometre-long Marmaray railway tunnel under the Bosphorus was opened, marking the opening of a new rail link between Europe and Asia. Freight trains will also use this link and the train ferries have now disappeared. The photo was taken on the Asian side in 1988, near Haydarpaşa.

cyclical and linear marking of time

A good theme to show off this beautiful wooden bookmark given to me by my daughter.

All cats love the warmth of the sun. She had been scent marking by arching her back and rubbing back & shoulders on the leaves. She also raised her tail & sprayed her scent. This was the moment she paused and raised her head to the sun. There were no birds or squirrels overhead that I could see at that time.
