Seit Juni 1995 steht auf dem Marktplatz ein neuer Brunnen des Künstlers Joseph Michael Neustifter.
Die Figur des Grafen Luckner, des Marschalls von Frankreich, während er vorbeigehende Passanten mit Wasser bespritzt, sieht er zum Glockenspiel am Rathausfirst und wartet darauf, dass täglich um 12.05 Uhr die ihm gewidmete Marseillaise erklingt.
Die Waldhexe mit ihren Kindern ist keine böse Hexe, sondern vielmehr eine liebevolle Mutter. Federn und Blumen, Blätter und Ranken auf ihrem Gewand lassen an Mutter Natur denken.
Der Kreis schließt sich mit einer bekannten Sagengestalt des Bayerischen Waldes, dem Bilmesschneider. Mit den Sicheln an seinen Beinen soll er einst über die Felder gegangen sein, um den Bauern das Getreide abzuschneiden. Hier ist der Bilmesschneider nicht die Verkörperung des Bösen, der Missernte und des Hungers. Das belegen die verschiedenen Symbole (Weinstock, Reben, Peace-Zeichen), die er an seinem Körper trägt.

Here the Bilmesschneider is not the embodiment of evil, the crop failure and famine. The consumption of different symbols (vine, vines, peace sign), which he wears on his body.

Tuesday is the day for the weekly market in our village. It's a wonderful market which sells just about everything. We do most of our shopping there.
This year's Christmas lights in and around Wallingford's Market Place are entirely white, which I must say is rather disappointing. Thus, a black & white photograph seemed most appropriate especially as the colour version was almost identical.
Actually, Salisbury market place on a rainy evening in October. Salisbury is a stunning, historical town with much to commend it. However, it is still struggling with reduced visitor numbers after the novichok poisoning episode several years ago. I was standing in this market square looking at a signpost that gave distances to other Salisburys around the world and a local resident stopped to ask if I needed help, I told her I was just visiting and she actually thanked me for visiting. If you are passing and can spare the time Salisbury is worth a visit and you will be made welcome by residents and businesses alike.
Worcester mid-week market stalls in front of the newly vamped shopping centre entrance and building, freshly painted. We just need the shops to be filled again and we will have something more for visitors to see.

Smithfield Meat Market, City of London. The historic market has been on this site since 1327, but its days are numbered. This and Billingsgate Fish Market, currently based in Poplar, were originally proposed to move to Dagenham but it may be that they will close altogether. This site, which sits between Farringdon and Barbican in The City of London, is to largely become the new City of London Museum.

A shot taken a while back when I first got this Fuji, very different from me but I was inspired to edit this after seeing Jullian Hugues stream (see link). At the Brunnenmarkt in Ottakring, Vienna's 16th district. This almost 1 km long street market, open daily except Sundays, is very popular for its reasonable prices and the quality of its goods.
Take a closer look at the black man in the shadow to the right of the blonde woman: he seems to be as interested in her as I am, but without a camera. However, black men are difficult to portray in the shadows.
